GODDAMN JIM ITS NOT AN ACTUAL DOCUMENTARY!!! JUST LIKE HOW MY DADDYS COLLEGE WASNT AN ACTUAL COLLEGE!!!
Wait...
It's just a show about young Rock and the wrestlers of that era, it's not a documentary.
And these 2 state that numerous times each review
On Hogan’s Heroes they at least made the uniforms and stuff look good
And it’s basically a comedy Jim doesn’t know how tv shows works or he just wants something to complain about
@@SneakerFetish420 I think he knows how tv works
@@jakewinters1138 it’s possible
Remember “everybody hates Chris” was loosely based on Chris Rocks history... same for this Young Rock show... it’s the same thing here it’s not meant to be 100% historically accurate. Just loosely accurate
Don't forget that these are two adults in their 60s that get upset by forcing themselves to watch wrestling when it's a children's show meant for children and not grown senior citizens.😂
If "Rock's dad was a wrestler and everything else is whatever" qualifies enough to be "loosely accurate, then... sure. Loosely accurate it is
@@Blackfeet Brian is like 41
@@imapiratearr That doesn't make a difference does it. They're both grown ass adults complaining about the quality of a children's TV show. Who's fault is it that they keep watching something they don't like because it's not meant for them in the first place?😂
@@Blackfeet Brian Last is around 40 so you clearly have no clue what you're talking about.
They're not dolls, they're action figures!!!
Exactly collectibles my dad calls them dolls fucking nob
With kung fu grip!
Dolls.
Pussycat dolls
The rival promoter in hawaii was John R. wakayama .
Re: historical accuracy, folks really gotta consider stuff like licensing and intellectual property law moving forward. They’re not going to be able to use everybody that was actually around, even if they want to.
Also recognition by modern audiences.
9:30 I don't remember where in the episode(maybe when Lia was talking to Vince on the phone) but there was a poster advertising Bob Backlund at a show.
It’s not about wrestling he is putting the wrestling in there because it’s part of his childhood I think it’s good for what it is I enjoy it
Exactly
Right. Jim & Brian will always be the type to never fully enjoy anything cause they'll nitpick that shit to DEATH
I like it but I don't know why they chose 1982 for the youngest version of Rock. It's just too glaring with inaccuracies. They should have started in 1984 so that this stuff would be more accurate with who was around.
@@osaji922 I can’t argue that I think they were thinking that the audience they would have would be more of the kind of people who would be like hey I remember junk yard dog and not actual people like us that love wrestling and remember everything about it but all in all they are doing wrestling a favor by talking about it weekly on a prime time show
Actually it is he needs to be accurate
Rocky Johnson did in fact debut in the WWF in 1982, but in very late 1982 in December. He debuted the same time with Big John Studd and Eddie Gilbert.
'Jim Cornette tempting Rocky to Smoky Mountain with a nice ham' is the name of this Renaissance masterpiece
I think you guys are overthinking the show lol I'm sure The Rock is not trying to pass everything on as historically accurate
Plus he would be remembering things from 50 years earlier
A nice touch was the Pat Patterson poster in Vince's office
It's hilarious that Jim Cornette has no problem reviewing the "Young Rock" tv show, but refuses to watch Raw...
because it's about early 80s wrestling which interests Jim.
and Nxt
Let’s see...30 min tv show vs 3 hour snoozefest. Gee I can’t figure out why Jim has more patience to sit through the former.
He's likes this comedy wrestling show over the other bad comedy wrestling shows the two main companies put out each week.
Because “Young Rock” is more realistic.
“Listen, we can either cast somebody that looks like Vince, or captures vinces character, but we can’t do both..”
“How about.. neither?”
“GODDAMNIT PAL! That’s the Vince spirit! ok, go ahead and cast that clearly Italian guy.”
Although it wouldn't explain everything away, keep in mind the premise of the show is the Rock in 2032 looking back on his childhood. Some items presented as 'facts' could be attributed to anyone looking back on life and either embellishing their past, mixing up details or just talking about what they believed to be true, even if it wasn't. Especially true of this episode, when the Rock would be speaking on circumstances that would've taken place nearly 50 years prior.
Or as Jim would say “LAAZZYYYY BOOKKKINGG!”
@@jakewinters1138 I would love it if Jim makes and sells a "LAAAZZZY BOOOKING" shirt.
No actually makes sense
@@jasonjimerson7046 I still wan't the "Video Game Bullshit" shirt
The first set of LJN dolls was Hogan, Sheik, Andre, Studd and Snuka.
I had them, and a bunch of others...but hasbros were the best
Randall Park is a comedic actor, not a newscaster. He's playing a failed, awkward actor interviewing The Rock. And he's doing that well.
Randall Park also played Louis Huang in Fresh off the Boat
And he is great in that show
@@ZBR_ProXP hell yeah
I guarantee no one aside from us wrestling nerds cares about the inaccurate portrayals.
Andre had a Japanese action figure around 1982/83 if I recall.
Yup, i own that doll
@@Easyefisheric nice. Expensive to buy?
I like the fact that this episode was more drama than comedy.
As a writer I can appreciate why they would distort history to have certain characters in the story, particularly charismatic ones like Macho Man, and use already established characters like JYD instead introducing new ones for minor plot points.
It seems to me the creators of this show were making sure there were wrestling names the general public would be more familiar with and don’t mind skewing history for the sake of keeping an audience.
Also, there are probably a lot of wrestlers they dont have the rights to use in the show.
Keeping an audience ...each episode has gotten more than 4 million views on live tv that better ratings than wwe impact aew roh or any other company you can name the show is going to do numbers no matter what
Bingo
Am I the only one who thinks that the Macho man Randy Savage role should have been given to Elias. Elias looks exactly like Savage,Elias has charisma to pull it off
WWE might not let it happen for some BS reason
Elias os too jacked to be Savage in '82...but yea Elias is Savages twin,Lol
Now that you mention it. He needs to become the White Machessmo
@Game Changer, I'm surprised Vince didn't have him debut as Randy's son or nephew.
I wanna see Elias dress up like Savage just once . It would be crazy .
Regardless of the silliness Dwayne has a hit show on his hand
"We're heels, we shouldnt have dolls "
Oh come on, Jim. Kids want action figures of heels even back then, cause even as kids, we knew the babyfaces had to face someone. And we werent gonna do face vs. face.
Exactly. I can't believe he never understood that. We don't want our heroes to fight each other as kids, we wanna use them to beat the bad guys
And let’s face it.. villains look cooler in toy form. My toys growing up were easily 85% bad guy.
It's like saying there shouldn't have been Darth Vader action figures. It's bonkers.
Jim is very old school. Wrestler heels shouldn't have merch!
When I saw the actor portraying Savage, I thought it was Zack Ryder haha
Is it possible that they can't tell the story exactly the way it happened for some legal reasons?🤔
It's bending the truth by way of taking artistic license. It's done all the time in movies, TV shows, plays, novels, you name it, that are based on historic incidents. It's done for the sake of heightening the entertainment (real life in real time is usually a yawn), tightening up storylines and even condensing several characters into one single character. The show isn't a documentary.
They're talking like this show is a documentary. Its freakin' Hollywwod.
But it fun to watch and find the many contradiction to wrestles history.
@@p.d.l7023 Same here! My non wrestling fan wife surprisingly enjoys it too.
When it came to the WWF action figures that came out in 1985, I remember they had a commercial that featured Jimmy Snuka, The Iron Sheik, Hulk Hogan, and Big John Studd was mentioned. This was probably the first line, and more were to follow; it was ironic they had one for Jimmy Snuka since he would be gone soon afterwards.
Guys Snuka was found guilty of killing a woman....I dont think that's a character NBC will be using on their show
Technically Snuka was never found guilty. He was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial and the charges were dropped. He died not long after that.
Guilty in the court of public opinion. The recent Dark Side of The Ring didnt help his reputation either and im sure NBC execs would wanna see that
@@TheeCoachg it boggles the mind that it's implied Vince McMahon had something to do with basically suppressing the investigation and noone talks about it
I was thinking the same thing. Snuka will not be included.
@@TheeCoachg Do you really think anybody from NBC has watched Dark Side Of The Ring.
I was thinking the same thing about JYD suppose to been working in midsouth at that time.
Its just like how the goldbergs mess the time lines of pop culture items from the 80s. For instance et for atari they made it look like it came out in late 80s after the nes launched. Nope it came out good year or two before us launch.
Wait until we get to tony atlas and rocky winning the belts at wrestlemania 3 🤣
I feel like Dennis Quaid would be the perfect actor to play Vince.
Randall Park was on Wandavision on Disney+ he has been a character in the Marvel Universe .......😶 Also a main character on Fresh off the Boat as the father of the family and owner of a Texas style BBQ restaurant on the show ...... ABC Network .....😶
Accoriding to Wikipedia via Tim Hornbaker's book Death of the Territories: Expansion, Betrayal and the War that Changed Pro Wrestling Forever Vince McMahon bought the company from his father on June 6, 1982. Peter Maivia passed away a week later on June 13, 1982.
Andre the Giant had a wrestling figure in 1981: wrestlingfigs.com/figuredatabase_category/popy-japan/
so did the other top gaijin in New Japan like Hulk Hogan, the Funks, Abby, Stan Hansen, Mil Mascaras both world champions (Bob Backlund and Harley Race) among others along with Antonio Inoki of course but that was only in Japan and unless Rocky Johnson would've gone to Japan he would not have known that Andre had his own action figure.
The LJN WWF figures first came out in 1984. The Lia Maivia/Lars Anderson were acquitted of extortion charges in November 1989. Peter Maivia bought Big Time Wrestling from Ed Francis 1979 and renamed it Polynesian Pro Wrestling . PPW closed in 1988
Excellent research man!
Snuka was the other action figure/doll in series 1, not Volkoff. That Snuka doll was the first wrestling toy that I ever had as a young fan. Volkoff and JYD were in the next series. A buddy of mine had all of the old AWA figures and the ring. Didn't those come out before the WWF LJN ones?
Yes, the AWA figures were released first. Those two toy lines are my all-time favorite action figures. I own almost every figure from both lines today.
@@justafanofnerdculture7602 That's awesome. I used to have almost all of the LJN figures when I was younger, except for that last wave with Warrior, Rude, etc. Blue cage and ring also. Sold them all at a yard sale long ago. 😣 Still have Hogan in white shirt and Sgt. Slaughter somewhere though. 😀
@@christophermccollum3786 Man, that's damn cool that you own a white shirt Hogan and the Hasbro Slaughter figure! Those are two figures that I will definitely eventually have in my collection. The other LJN figures I need are The Referee (blue shirt and white shirt), red shirt Hogan, SD Jones (West Indies shirt), Heel Andre, Haku and The Warlord. You had an awesome collection, do you regret selling it?
@@justafanofnerdculture7602 Yes and no. My brother and I played with them an awful lot when we were younger, so they weren't in the greatest condition. Lots of good memories though. I may still have a poster or two somewhere also. Are your figures loose or in package?
@@christophermccollum3786 Well, after I sent my reply to you, I noticed the angry emoji after you mentioned the sell. That was my answer right there! 😁 All of my figures are loose and I only have one accessorie, that being Hogan's title belt. They're in the typical played with shape. They're not in terrible shape, but, obviously, not in mint condition. None of them are my childhood originals, unfortunately. Those are long, long gone. I started watching a CZcamsr, The 80s Revolution, in late 2016 and that's what got me back into collecting. I started recollecting in April of 2017 and just need a few more to complete the collection. Like you mentioned, the memories of playing with those figures are something very, very special, man. Ever thought about recollecting them?
I agree with Brian, the guy they have playing Vince McMahon is the worst casting in the show. Doesn't look or sound like Vince in the slightest.
and I waited til this day to get Brian's reaction just after watching the Vince actor myself lol
Couldn’t believe it when I saw it I was like that’s suppose to be Vince McMahon geez bad cast choice there
I wouldn't have known that was Vince unless it was even mentioned. Awful choice indeed.
Rock0 😂🤣🤠😂😂‘ My First Wrestling Doll’ Was Big John Stud
Randall Park was great in the show Fresh of the Boat
hell yeah
I work for a company call South Pac Wrestling Federation that went head to head with WPW in 1990. I meet Lars but didn't wrestle for WPW.
First 5 LJN figures: Iron Sheik - Hogan - Andre- Snuka- John Stud. However, the AWA figures were out first.
I like these segments on the show, bcuz as I watch "YR", I'm wondering what is true and what is off. Up to today's watching, I thought there was a handful of truths in the latest episode.
Maybe not for a normal ham, but perhaps for a rum ham.
I enjoy each episode and I enjoy the rock as well along with just seeing about his father. I must ask why must JC trash everything 🤷🏽♂️ And what does he like lol. It’s a tv show it’s not a documentary or based off true life events the rock said that it’s loosely based on what the rock grew up seeing and being raised around. Like guys calm down and everyone is not going to look like or be exactly like who they portray besides the rock, his dad and his family.
Jim's gimmick is that he shit's all over everything. I'm not sure what you aren't following here....
@@nw8488 Exactly, we aint here to listen to JIm compliment everybody, I wanna hear as many mothafuckas as i can..
They can't take the show for entertainment? It never said based on a true story
I think the ham is a metaphor because they don’t want to talk about money and get people in trouble
I only had to google 1 photo of Mcmahon to see it & think NO, no, not even close.
I like the show
"You could just tell he is going to be a star" - Jim Cornette
He's he going to review all the episode.
Wwf thumb wrestlers 1985 i remember those
I like the show.... for what it is. Makes me laugh.....
Technically, the AWA was the first company to put out figurines, or "dolls".
Really? I did not know that. Did they have a Buck Zumhofe action figure? LOL!!! (I can assure you, I would never have purchased that particular figure.)
I had the Road Warriors, but thought they were the Powers of Pain...then the LOD showed up in the WWF lol
@@lyricsanonymous9036 right on, yeah looking at them the design was not bad. One woman I worked with a few years back, was a huge AWA fan, she would have loved these. She loved the high flyers, and was friends with both Greg Gagne, and Jim Brunzell.
@@j.c.ca.o.l7035 That's pretty damn cool! 👌
"And they dropped the COW!!" Please don't tell me that was Russo's inspiration for writing a wrestling promotion.
Well from the Snuka murdering his girlfriend case they probably didn't wanna mention him at all
Lol
1) show "based on" the life, not a chronological documentary.
2) 2032 retelling through someone's memory similar to the goldbergs where he says "1980 something", meaning they times don't always line up from memory not google.
3) recurring characters need larger roles even if in classic heel fashion they misrepresent the truth.
(Feel free to add to the list cult members)
haha and here i thought this was the best episode lol. But the Vince actor should have taken a page from Mr OOC.
It still was.
Wait until they use Hulk Hogan to play 1980s Hulk Hogan
i like the show . and i grew up then . so i get the mess ups in reality of dudes being there at the right times . but its still fun . i think .
I don’t think the producers and network executives want Snooka in the show for certain reasons that are obvious.
I like that it's entertainment, not accurate. Jim & Brian covering this show is the only negative part of this show.
Far more accurate and less anachronism-filled than the Jesse Ventura biopic in the 90s
To paraphrase Cornette from a few weeks ago: they’re taking creative licence to tell Rock’s story in a sitcom, we shouldn’t be too harsh or pick it apart.
*proceeds to be real harsh and pick everything apart.*
🙄
I don’t know who was in charge of picking some of these actors, some of the casting choices were egregious 😂
I love Jim and Brian but just watch this show for what it is. I feel like Brian already hates Rocky Johnson so he’s never not gonna be critical of SOMETHING and honestly,in wrestling everybody remembers history in a way that benefits them. People say just WWE does it but practically every wrestler who does a shoot interview or writes a book recalls things the way they want, inaccuracies and all. I just feel like its a sitcom and should be treated as such. AEW is a sitcom unintentionally,so I don’t mind them shitting all over that.
rocky johnson is my favorite on the show. hands down.
Can’t wait to hear what cornette says about the AEW sparkler incident 😂
Would you swear on a stack of bibles that ham has never convinced one of the boys to jump ship.?
I know that they are taking it from what really happened but we also have to remember that just because these people were really there and not others could have to do with getting the rights to use said characters.
I thought the King Kong Bundy guy looked like an extremely out of shape Dustin Rhodes.
Asian cowboy was hilarious
Alright guys they can’t be 100% accurate. Of course they’re using guys like Andre, Sheik and Macho Man. They aren’t gonna use a bunch of nobodies. They want viewers to recognize some of the characters.
I love listening to these guys but wait until they review Major League and find out that was historically inaccurate 😂😂😂
I’m not a historian or as knowledgeable as Jim & Brian but even I knew how inaccurate this episode was. I don’t know how the glaring inaccuracies make the story better. I had the same issues with Paige’s movie
Because the truth is often boring
That Vince McMahon is pretty off.. I don't have his look of course but I would at least act like him better then the guy they picked. Theres no "well pal" or any kind of mannerisms like that in this. He might find himself as Vince throughout the show but that episode was nothing like him. Anyways its still an entertaining little show. I think it should just be the Rock narrating talking to the camera. The parts with the presenter is, as Jim says "Hoaky"
I’m I the only person that watches Young Rock because Jim is watching it?
It’s crazy that Randall is in two shows one getting critical acclaim for his comedic timing, the other is young Rock
The man did 6 seasons on Fresh Off The Boat on ABC and nobody mentions it. Harsh.
The newscaster actor Randall Park was good in WandaVision. Idk why they made him a sucky character in this show.
Mahalo Corny
How could he hate young rock
What i am getting from the comments is, this is basically "everybody smells dwain"
I'm still waiting for that Skyscraper movie sequel. Seriously that's my favorite Dwayne movie
Yeah, it's one of the better films he's done. Still could have been better though.
It was certainly packed with action, but i felt it was too much special effects an not enough story. Not a movie i wanna see more than once.
@@dwade6322 Compared to his other movies anyway
Jim needs to stop updating us on this show. It sucks...... "The Nanny" was funnier.
Park is great in WandaVision
Don't take it too seriously. It's a sit-com.
Jim is clearly not familiar with the recent developments in sitcoms. Many don't have laugh tracks or audiences these days. The Office, Parks and Rec, Modern Family, etc., etc.
jim, not everyone keeps everything. possible rock is just mistaken?
Jim im starting to think you get off on bad tv. Can you reveal your blood pressure prescription
It was like the episode was done by aew
Just watch the damn
This is fun. You guys ever review Netflix's GLOW?
That was such a great show..but it got cancelled.
Dam corny and Brian dissect the fuck out this show..it just a show
Please do not besmirch the name of Randall Park. The reason you’re getting so much blowback about it is he is *excellent* as Agent Woo in the MCU (Ant-Man/WandaVision).
I haven't watched any of Young Rock yet but he is excellent as Woo
Atta looks like Nia Jaxx!
Maybe it’s just a huge RIB
I wouldn't call it a humble upbringing, Rocky was the son of a successful pro wrestler who didn't start losing money until he was already in college. He did struggle financially himself, but a big part of why Rock was able to struggle for so many years was because he came from a better background. In particular the fact that he could send his wife and kid to Hawaii to stay with his grandmother while he was struggling in the CFL and could barely afford to eat.
Rocky was actually losing money on Memphis in 87.
Watched the 1st one thought it was a cheesy pile of shit and just a sob story for his inevitable presidential campaign.
19th!
