I have done the " you on the motorcycle" line using the loud speaker in a fire brigade vehicle to youth on an illegal motor cross bike. I laughed don't think anyone else got the joke.
That opening scene with the speaker tower, properly laughed out loud when i noticed Elwood with the tool box and some of the band guys coming towards it. Great movie ^^.
In case anyone is wondering, this "loud-speaker" is actually an old air raid siren made in Canada by Canadian line Manufacturing (CLM). This one doesn't look like it actually works though. I guess it's a stage prop CLM air raid siren. What I'm also scratching my head on is why it's in Chicago when I should be in Canada. But definitely a great choice in my opinion! :)
Chicago and the surrounding suburbs have warning systems in place, and are tested monthly, to warn folks to take shelter when tornados are detected in the area.
@Director HFerreira I'd also wager a stylistic choice. Most of the sirens in the US are either far too big to put on a car, are too small for the visual gag, or produced their sound mechanical and can't be used that way. Whoever selected it did it because it was the biggest monolithic horn they could actually fit on the roof.
The scene showing them walking up to the loudspeaker was deleted from several versions of the film...I noticed it after watching it a hundred or so times over 30 years myself.
It was deleted because it didn't make any sense. That tornado siren weighs like 800lbs and is a hundred feet up a pole, and Elwood is walking through a playground with a toolbox to the base of the pole. ...what? How does he get it down? What's the plan here? Loosen some bolts with a wrench that magically remains in your hand instead of instantly slinging to that massive magnet at the back of the speaker? --It's a classic example of why you shouldn't try to explain everything in a movie.
Ray hanging the sign upside down gets me every time
It's funny cause he's blind 😎
YES! me too.

The oh so slight hesitation when Elwood says its "ladies night....tonight" is great
"You...on the Motorcycle....You two girls....." Maybe the best lines in the movie....Real Chicago humor!
And also, "It's ladies night tonight!"
i don't get it
@@Iggywiggywoo they trying every trick to get people to come.
YOU COULD NEVER PUT TALENT LIKE THIS TOGETHER AGAIN JUST BRILLIANT
i love when they're in the middle of nowhere in the beginning speaking to no one

No joke. It worked. They packed that joint!
"You! On the motorcycle". I don't know why that's so funny but it is.

Never noticed that!
that red-haired kid who gave Aretha Franklin that sign is Aaron Chase. He was my next store neighbor when I was a kid. That was his 15 minutes.

I've watched this movie hundreds of times over the years. I never realized where they got the loudspeaker from. LOL
He traded the original bluesmobile for a microphone. He says so in the beginning of the film.
Did he have it in storage or something? 😂

Ho Kum, he traded it for a microphone - not a speaker (-;

@@bezzlebedeviled4756 LOL...plenty physics violations in the film but that is part of its charm. It isn't believable but somehow it doesn't matter.
I just hope Ray was in on the upside-down poster gag.
What I find interesting is seeing the young kids who are now all in their mid to late 40s. But also looking at the fashions of the time.
Yes I often wonder what became of their lives when I see kids in movies like this. Their 15 minutes of fame.
Good ole Bangs lake. Great summer times swimming there!😎😎😎
How you let that behemoth of a car run out of gas is beyond me
