Uhm it could be just a character trait. In cartoons some objects are used as a distinctive sign for the character. (Example: Darius' white gloves. / Raine's glasses.) So, Hunter's gloves may hold a significance of some kind as well as they could be just a distinctive trait, in my opinion. :) I'm personally choosing to stick with the distinctive trait looking no further into it, but the show could surprise us. If I were to make an hypothesis though, in the human realm he may have to take his gloves off for the sake of disguise, he may have to use human clothes as well as the other kids. Or his hands may be scarred.
Best guess he's just not used to physical contact in much of any form. That or he's doesn't like being touched or man handled suddenly probably triggers something I'm similar where if I don't see it coming I really don't like being touched.
He seems to be more fine when someone is proposing contact and then he reciprocates it as opposed to forced unwanted contact, which can be seem as both literal and symbolic.

Yeah now that I think about it Hunter DOES have a weird thing with hands. Something in perticuler I noticed is how freaked out he gets when someone touches his shoulder. Whenever Belos puts his hands on Hunters shoulder it's to assert his control over him. He's probably not used to it being a loving or supportive gesture. And now I'm sad. I also heard a theory that his hands aren't complete which is why he always wears gloves

My theory is Grimwalkers are supposed to develop to the age of their ortet, but Hunter was ripped out of the ground prematurely by his hands, which lead to sensitivity in them
Yeah that’s a good idea! I wonder who pulled him out prematurely though. Belos has been through this rodeo so seems unlikely for him. Maybe his experiment was going wrong for some reason so they force him out early. Or maybe it could explain why Belos wanted to deal with Hunter before making another grim walker. Maybe Darius mentor found Hunter by accident and tried to dig and pull him out so he could escape Bella’s abuse. Belos stopped him before he could dig out anymore of his hands and killed the og. Left hunter in the ground to at least not waste materials and came out with a gg with half-baked hands. Since Hunter was premature depending on the age he stopped at maybe he did not remember entirely or at all, misunderstood the situation as the gg saving him from an accident (lines up with Belos “finding him” from his perspective), maybe even thinking it was a nightmare. Thought it be a cool idea.

I always found it weird how in every scene where there is Hunter, he is always wearing gloves. At first I just thought that I, along with many other people, were just looking too deep into it, and that there are also other characters who wear gloves (Darius, Emperor Coven Scouts, etc.). However, Hunter goes through like, 5 costume changes throughout the show, and in every one of them, he wears gloves. When he was the Golden Guard, and in the episode where he dressed like a coven scout, it made sense why he wore gloves, because it was a part of the uniform. But what struck me as odd was when he changed to the Potions uniform in Episode 13. He was still wearing gloves. That was so weird, since he wanted to give the image of blending in with the students, but a necessary part of his disguise had to be gloves? Also, when he was homeless, and was living in Hexside, he was wearing shitty clothing, and was dirty. But he still had gloves!!, and they were different gloves, since his usual ones are black, but these ones are brown. It was clearly absolutely necessary for him to wear gloves?? And finally, for his new attire, he also has gloves. It is so strange that with all of these costume changes, especially when he disguised himself as a Hexside student, the most constant part of his attire are the gloves, and combine this fact with how Hunter reacts to when someone touches his hands, I think that there might be something wrong with them. I predict that in season 3, there's probably going to be a moment between him and Belos (Belos is still going to play an important role/villain role), and Hunter is literally going to be like, "screw you! all you did was just abuse/torture me and made me feel like shit", and then he will reveal his hands, which will probably have scars. I also have another theory on why there might be something wrong with Hunter's hands, and this is more of the reasoning behind it. What if Belos/Phillip purposely injuries or fucks up the hands of the Grimwalkers because of his brother, Caleb? As we see with Dell Clawthorne, who is a palisman carver, the attack that he faced from the Owl Beat fucked up his hands, and he was not able to carve. There have been many theories that Caleb married a Clawthorne, and as we see in the pictures from Hollow Mind, he was skilled at carving, and he probably started the carving business that the Clawthorne have done for generations. Probably, what connected Caleb to the Boiling Isles and made him love it so much was his love for carving palisman, and he became known for it in the Isles and loved doing it, and then later on, he met his wife. Probably, when Phillip was with Caleb, he saw how Caleb would carve palisman, and he disapproved of it, and when Caleb got married to a witch, Phillip felt that he "crossed a line" and killed him. Now, what if, along with his looks, the Grimwalkers inherit Caleb's carving skills. So, maybe Belos ruins their hands, so that they won't be able to carve and do something that Caleb loved that strengthened his connection to the Isles and witches. However, the Grimwalkers still died, because they inherited other traits of Caleb, like idk, his compassion or love. Just a theory on why Belos would scar their hands.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that it was strange that Hunter NEVER took off his gloves. Also, one thing, I think he kept the gloves on in the episode where he disguises himself as an hexside student because of the coven sigil he has on his wrist. But regard the other times there wasn't really a reason to keep them on. We could be overthinking this though since the same thing already happend with the amphibia fandom. If I remember correctly they though that anne was going to lose an arm and sasha an eye bc of the attention the show gave to to this respective parts. I really hope we're not looking too deep into it tho 🥲
Something I find interesting though is that even though he wears gloves in all other instances, The one time we can see him without his gloves is when Dana Terrace draws him in his canon Grom outfit. That could’ve just been a coincidence though… 🤷♀️

If they are deformed, then it can't be that bad because his hands work just fine. My money's on his hands being super scarred, kinda like his cheek but lots more and really noticeable, so he hides them.
Doubt it since they function perfectly fine. I feel like if he actually had a severe deformity in his hands, Belos would’ve just killed him and made another Grimwalker as soon as possible. Hunter started pushing everyone's hands away from him after he found out he was a Grimwalker. Ok, just a theory, but, judging by the fact that hunter reacts to touch in a negative way, going as far as only brushing Gus’ hand away in labyrinth runners and holding his hand, most likely to prevent it from shaking as he did when a bird Pelzman dusted away in his hands, but he also tensed when belos clutched his shoulder, and he looked like he was expecting harm from Darius when he got chopped in the head by him. So, what if, belos abused him when he failed? Or broke the rules? I mean think about it, he follows orders, he could be a prodigy he’s so skilled in a lot of the stuff he does and he fears failure so much that when we first met him he was “ digging himself a grave” and went on a mission he wasn’t supposed to go on to prove his worth. I don’t know why, but I have this headcanon that hunter wears his gloves because Belos told him it was dangerous to have them off, kinda like Elsa from frozen- Basically, the idea was because of the fact that grimwalkers are partly made from galderstones (don’t know the spelling) and they are meant to give witches’ spells a boost. So when ever he touches something or someone the spells because more powerful. So in that case, Belos told him to keep them on cause hunter knowing how powerful he could be would be terrible for Belos if he betrayed him like all the others. (And we all know how that went down-)
I also thought that this would make sense as in Dana’s art on twitter, he doesn’t wear his gloves and he doesn’t have any scars or scratches on them (that we can see) Because he might learn that he doesn’t actually need them, because he’s not as dangerous as he thought he was. Can I share a theory? I believe that his hands are made of a different material from the rest of his skin due to belos having not enough material. Let me explain. We see in eclipse lake that a galdor stone is something needed to make a grim walker, and are most likely there for the purpose of a bile sack, because they creat magic, but in labyrinth runners, gray says “these would make great gifts for the emperor” I take that as belos does not have a galdor stone for a grim walker. Darius says that the other golden guard, before hunter was a very powerful witch. I don’t think that mention mean that he was good with his staff, I think it means he had actual magic. powerful magic from the galdor stone. But if belos had no galdor for hunter, then that would explain his lack of magic. But how does this tie to his hands? Well, if he had no galdor stone, then whose to say he wasn’t lacking in other material? I believe that belos had less material of skin then he needed for hunter, or even possibly finger joint equivalents. This would explain why his hands give him pain.
Maybe Belos did it purposely? He dislikes witches and their power makes everything harder. What if the previous gg, because of his powerfulness, was pretty hard to dispose of and Belos decided: "Eh, it's too troublesome".

Personally, I think he has reasons for wearing gloves other than to hide whatever scars are under there. Cause judging from his reactions in those two scenes with Willow and Gus in ASiaS and Labyrinth Runners respectively, his hands do seem to be somewhat sensitive. Also, except for that high five scene in Labyrinth Runners, notice that he _always_ fistbumps with Gus. I really hope we get to see what's wrong with his hands eventually, or at the very least see him without gloves for once

My fan theories: 1. Something accursed like palistrome vines/tentacle fingers with claws lie under Caleb/Hunter's gloves. 2. Luz finds a way to use time pool magic again and writes The Good Witch Azura with Amity at the end of the show. 3. The Bat Queen was the palisman staff of the smaller Titan (the one on Titan Trapper Island, presumably King's father). 4. The Collector will free the Owl Beast and will not be defeated/imprisoned, but go back into the stars. 5. King will discover more Titans.

im a hunter kinnie, im gonna give my opinion on this.. (warning for mentions of abuse, murder, character death and s2 spoilers) him rubbing his hands/fingers together or playing with them could be a coping mechanism! i also tend to do this when im stressed out or upset. it could also be a way he distracts himself from whatevers happening currently. he likely has scars on his hands or issues with certain textures! he could also be uncomfortable with showing them, like how some people are uncomfortable with showing parts of their body. as for the physical contact part, i also jump and get anxious when people touch me randomly on the shoulder or back (trauma 🕺 /neg) so he’s also likely experiencing the same thing, especially with how belos is clearly abusive towards him both physically (scars, the vine arms, trying to kill him in the headspace..), mentally and verbally.

Notice how he starts fiddling with his gloved hands when he starts talking about Belos in Hunting Palismen, perhaps implying why he conceals his true personality by indicating the gloves. In his very first appearance, he emerges from the Boiling Sea in a fist-shaped plume of water, establishing hand imagery from the very beginning.

This is my best guess, as I checked the toh wiki and according to the Hunter page he has "scars on his right cheek, upper left arm, two on his right kneecap, forming an X-mark, and one on his left calf." And that's only the ones we've seen. The dude probably has more scars in places we just haven't seen, like his hands.

I see Hunter having sensory issues and autism. Why I think that: first of all in the episode where Hunter joined the flyer derby team he said that he didn’t feel sick after willow said that he can attract people with his “sick fly skills”. People with autism might take comments like that to literarily. Also always when someone touches hunters hands he is kind of comforting himself, like rubbing it or massaging. That was so weird, since he wanted to give the image of blending in with the students, but a necessary part of his disguise had to be gloves? Also, when he was homeless, and was living in Hexside, he was wearing shitty clothing, and was dirty. But he still had gloves!!, and they were different gloves, since his usual ones are black, but these ones are brown. It was clearly absolutely necessary for him to wear gloves?? And finally, for his new attire, he also has gloves. It is so strange that with all of these costume changes, especially when he disguised himself as a Hexside student, the most constant part of his attire are the gloves, and combine this fact with how Hunter reacts to when someone touches his hands, I think that there might be something wrong with them. I predict that in season 3, there's probably going to be a moment between him and Belos (Belos is still going to play an important role/villain role), and Hunter is literally going to be like, "screw you! all you did was just abuse/torture me and made me feel like shit", and then he will reveal his hands, which will probably have scars.
I also have another theory on why there might be something wrong with Hunter's hands, and this is more of the reasoning behind it. What if Belos/Phillip purposely injuries or fucks up the hands of the Grimwalkers because of his brother, Caleb? As we see with Dell Clawthorne, who is a palisman carver, the attack that he faced from the Owl Beat fucked up his hands, and he was not able to carve. There have been many theories that Caleb married a Clawthorne, and as we see in the pictures from Hollow Mind, he was skilled at carving, and he probably started the carving business that the Clawthorne have done for generations. Probably, what connected Caleb to the Boiling Isles and made him love it so much was his love for carving palisman, and he became known for it in the Isles and loved doing it, and then later on, he met his wife. Probably, when Phillip was with Caleb, he saw how Caleb would carve palisman, and he disapproved of it, and when Caleb got married to a witch, Phillip felt that he "crossed a line" and killed him. Now, what if, along with his looks, the Grimwalkers inherit Caleb's carving skills. So, maybe Belos ruins their hands, so that they won't be able to carve and do something that Caleb loved that strengthened his connection to the Isles and witches. However, the Grimwalkers still died, because they inherited other traits of Caleb, like idk, his compassion or love. Just a theory on why Belos would scar their hands.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that it was strange that Hunter NEVER took off his gloves. Also, one thing, I think he kept the gloves on in the episode where he disguises himself as an hexside student because of the coven sigil he has on his wrist. But regard the other times there wasn't really a reason to keep them on. We could be overthinking this though since the same thing already happend with the amphibia fandom. If I remember correctly they though that anne was going to lose an arm and sasha an eye bc of the attention the show gave to to this respective parts. I really hope we're not looking too deep into it tho 🥲
Something I find interesting though is that even though he wears gloves in all other instances, The one time we can see him without his gloves is when Dana Terrace draws him in his canon Grom outfit. That could’ve just been a coincidence though… 🤷♀️

When I was watching the owl house I realized about hunters' hands right away. I think that they are really deformed or something.
If they are deformed, then it can't be that bad because his hands work just fine. My money's on his hands being super scarred, kinda like his cheek but lots more and really noticeable, so he hides them.

Since we know that Hunter most likely came alive with his hand coming to the Boiling Isles first, I have come to the conclusion that Hunter pushes everyone's hands away bc he still can't believe he is a Grimwalker. Ok, just a theory, but, judging by the fact that hunter reacts to touch in a negative way, going as far as only brushing Gus’ hand away in labyrinth runners and holding his hand, most likely to prevent it from shaking as he did when a bird Pelzman dusted away in his hands, but he also tensed when belos clutched his shoulder, and he looked like he was expecting harm from Darius when he got chopped in the head by him. So, what if, belos abused him when he failed? Or broke the rules? I mean think about it, he follows orders, he could be a prodigy he’s so skilled in a lot of the stuff he does and he fears failure so much that when we first met him he was “ digging himself a grave” and went on a mission he wasn’t supposed to go on to prove his worth. Where did the scars come from? I’m sure scars wouldn’t have followed to every clone, after all, their cloning the genes not the person, that’s why they’re all different, that’s why hunter sees belos as his uncle, that’s why belos doesn’t call them Caleb ( as well as hating his brother but, yk). Scars are something you form and aren’t part of your DNA, so where’d he get them? Why do they look so deep? What happened to him? Well, judging by how hunter has seen belos’ curse before, I’d say, since belos does get more violent in that form, they were accidental, but definitely by belos.

Basically, the idea was because of the fact that grimwalkers are partly made from galderstones (don’t know the spelling) and they are meant to give witches’ spells a boost. So when ever he touches something or someone the spells because more powerful. So in that case, Belos told him to keep them on cause hunter knowing how powerful he could be would be terrible for Belos if he betrayed him like all the others. (And we all know how that went down-)
this actually has the most evidence then most of the other theries. Not forgetting this one, good thinking.
I also thought that this would make sense as in Dana’s art on twitter, he doesn’t wear his gloves and he doesn’t have any scars or scratches on them (that we can see) Because he might learn that he doesn’t actually need them, because he’s not as dangerous as he thought he was.

Can I share a theory? I believe that his hands are made of a different material from the rest of his skin due to belos having not enough material. Let me explain. We see in eclipse lake that a galdor stone is something needed to make a grim walker, and are most likely there for the purpose of a bile sack, because they creat magic, but in labyrinth runners, gray says “these would make great gifts for the emperor” I take that as belos does not have a galdor stone for a grim walker. Darius says that the other golden guard, before hunter was a very powerful witch. I don’t think that mention mean that he was good with his staff, I think it means he had actual magic. powerful magic from the galdor stone. But if belos had no galdor for hunter, then that would explain his lack of magic. But how does this tie to his hands?
Well, if he had no galdor stone, then whose to say he wasn’t lacking in other material? I believe that belos had less material of skin then he needed for hunter, or even possibly finger joint equivalents. This would explain why his hands give him pain.
Maybe Belos did it purposely? He dislikes witches and their power makes everything harder. What if the previous gg, because of his powerfulness, was pretty hard to dispose of and Belos decided: "Eh, it's too troublesome".
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed this about his hands and why he always wears gloves. I personally think that belos gave him scars on his hands which would be why he wears gloves and why they are sensitive. Hopefully we get the reason why in S3
Personally, I think he has reasons for wearing gloves other than to hide whatever scars are under there. Cause judging from his reactions in those two scenes with Willow and Gus in ASiaS and Labyrinth Runners respectively, his hands do seem to be somewhat sensitive. Also, except for that high five scene in Labyrinth Runners, notice that he _always_ fistbumps with Gus. I really hope we get to see what's wrong with his hands eventually, or at the very least see him without gloves for once

3. The Bat Queen was the palisman staff of the smaller Titan (the one on Titan Trapper Island, presumably King's father).
4. The Collector will free the Owl Beast and will not be defeated/imprisoned, but go back into the stars.
5. King will discover more Titans.

im a hunter kinnie, im gonna give my opinion on this..

him rubbing his hands/fingers together or playing with them could be a coping mechanism! i also tend to do this when im stressed out or upset. it could also be a way he distracts himself from whatevers happening currently.
he likely has scars on his hands or issues with certain textures! he could also be uncomfortable with showing them, like how some people are uncomfortable with showing parts of their body.
as for the physical contact part, i also jump and get anxious when people touch me randomly on the shoulder or back (trauma 🕺 /neg) so he’s also likely experiencing the same thing, especially with how belos is clearly abusive towards him both physically (scars, the vine arms, trying to kill him in the headspace..), mentally and verbally.
Might be reading way too into this, but he seems to become way more comfortable with using his hands once he leaves the coven

The placement of his hands indicates his interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships. Note how in Thanks to Them, he starts finding himself, and he isn't wearing his gloves anymore. Notice how he starts fiddling with his gloved hands when he starts talking about Belos in Hunting Palismen, perhaps implying why he conceals his true personality by indicating the gloves. In his very first appearance, he emerges from the Boiling Sea in a fist-shaped plume of water, establishing hand imagery from the very beginning.

This is my best guess, as I checked the toh wiki and according to the Hunter page he has "scars on his right cheek, upper left arm, two on his right kneecap, forming an X-mark, and one on his left calf." And that's only the ones we've seen. The dude probably has more scars in places we just haven't seen, like his hands.

Why I think that: first of all in the episode where Hunter joined the flyer derby team he said that he didn’t feel sick after willow said that he can attract people with his “sick fly skills”. People with autism might take comments like that to literarily.
Also always when someone touches hunters hands he is kind of comforting himself, like rubbing it or massaging. This might be a symptom of sensory problems
