- One of our subscribers asked us to share a video about what we buy at the grocery store and to do an unpacking video after returning from the store. So, here's our first grocery shopping haul video after shopping at our local Palm Springs Walmart Super Center.

I do too. There's another variant making the rounds and I'm a senior with asthma so wearing a mask makes sense.
I always wear my mask anytime I'm out. I've had all my shots and both boosters. Lost two brothers to Covid before the vaccines became available. People are letting their guard down and making it unsafe for others.

I laughed when Jim said why you guys buy the lactose free milk. I do that too!! Since I broke my leg in January I've had to stock up when I can. I discovered that long expiration date and that was it! Thanks for the haul guys~✌💜 Happy 4th! Joan

Hey Stevve loved the video today and yes we you tube watchers are nosey and want to see what you brought. It was good to see Jim again and i did know that lactose milk lasts longer than regular milk, see Steve that was very good information for me. Your pantry and refrigerator was nice and clean, organized, you can find what you need. Thanks Steve with sharing with us.

HAHA i'm very similar, I try to get into Walmart first thing in the morning ( typically Saturday) and get out quickly!
Smart. It can be a nightmare later in the day!
I'm in constant "negotiations" with myself on what I eat and drink. I'll eat this so I can eat that later. I won't eat this because I'm going to have that later. One thing that has always worked best for me is practicing portion control. With portion control, I can eat/drink most of what I enjoy, within reason. There are a few things that I can live without that I have cut out completely but the rest I have just cut back on not out. Works for me...

Glad you like them vickie. We gripe, but we definitely love our Walmart compared to all the other stores. It's so difficult to find food with low sodium, but we definitely try. Sorry you have to deal with so much negativity. :-(

I watch people buy groceries, put them away and cook their food, but, it’s usually from different countries like Japan or Norway.
It is kind of interesting, isn't it, lol. :-)
I shop at my local Target Superstore, as it carries everything I need to live. The local Walmart is not a good store for me, they have police stationed there daily. I also get a bit overwhelmed with the noise and some of the antics of the customers. Target is just a block away and has a totally different vibe. The aisles are wider and the layout is such that no one aisle gets full of shoppers. The prices are about the same for what I purchase and a much more relaxed atmosphere. I no longer count calories, since being diagnosed with type II diabetes, I count carbs. I too have a sweet tooth even more than I did prior to my diagnosis and I found out that for me, foods with good old sugar doesn't affect me as much as the compound sugars from carbs. It's hard at times as I love pasta, but the pasta will spike my blood sugar way too high. I do eat ice cream and love it too.
Wow, I didn't know Target had super stores. Ours is further away and just has a tiny food section. I agree about the vibe though. That's one reason we shop so early. Most of the riff raff is usually still in bed, lol. :-) That's interesting about the carbs. I definitely need to eat less carbs too.
My father and I like to shop at Publix. Publix is a pretty big shopping chain throughout the Southeast. Bags are free. But we bring our own bags all the time. Every little bit helps the environment. Loved your haul. It’s amazing how little $100 buys today.

Hi Saykhel, I've heard of it, but haven't seen any here in So Cal. yet. So true about the $. Since you eat a lot healthier than I do, I bet you get even less than I do for you $!
@@theretiredlifewithsteve We, just the two of us, spend $650 per month in groceries. Yes eating healthy is expensive.
My favorite shopping bags are the 'Thirty-One' medium totes. They're sturdy and the groceries are less likely to roll around in the back of the car. Very easy to pack and carry. Also, Jim should look for the smaller Hershey Kisses in the baking aisle. Some stores have them there. Thanks for the videos! Love to spend some time with you guys to unwind.
Thanks for the tip Debra. It's difficult to find good bags! I don't think Jim wants to know where they are, lol. :-) He has a weakness for them like I have a weakness for ice cream.
You guys are great! Good job in shopping healthy. I have to admit I am a dedicated ice cream consumer as well, so good tip on using the ice cream cups. This was fun!

That was a really fun video you guys!! Steve..the first time I ever felt heartburn was during my first pregnancy. I ate a ton of taco dip at a friends house. OMG!! I thought I was gonna die later that night. I’ve had it ever since then. I have a sweet tooth also, & have to some ice cream & crunch & munch too!!! Happy 4th to you both!!🌞🌴😎😎

🤣 Well gentlemen I COULD NOT Believe what you shopped for and what you paid. My wife and I eat as much fruit and veggies as possible and balanced meats [ chicken, pork, beef ] and we could NEVER get away with prices you did. We're seniors and shop once a month for items we know will last a month and weekly for fruits and veggies. Our bills come to easily to $ 600.00 because we will in Canada in Ontario. We look for summer and fall when we can buy LOCAL that does save a lot. 😞
Wow, I thought our prices were high. Pretty soon no one is going to be able to afford to eat, lol. :-O

Well that was kind of fun! I also shop at Walmart because it locally it is one of the largest stores and has such good prices. But boy are you right when you say that the inventory is a problem today. I have found that it's that way in all the stores in our area. They don't seem to be able to get the inventory like they used to. Nice seeing what you buy for groceries and fun to see that it's not so different than what the rest of us by. You two are both very health conscious when it comes to food and careful and I find that that's something unique today. I find that women are the worst, I think it's because they cooked for families and when they get older all of a sudden they're just cooking for themselves. But they have a tendency not to eat well or be aware of calories and portion size. I have many women friends who have put on $150 plus pounds after retirement just because they don't understand what true good nutrition is. You would think women would know better since they're cooking meals for families. Thanks I found that to be interesting! Have a great day guys

When Jim said he bought himself a treat and pulled out grapefruit juice I almost fell off the couch!😂 As for you Steve, you need a separate freezer just for your ice cream. As one who has been eating much healthier over the last few months to get my cholesterol and other numbers back down to normal (which I have by the way) I would have to hang out with Jim more than you right now. As someone who has milk on cereal every morning this lactose free milk is out of this world. Shelf life expires 3 months from now. I did not know that until I watched your video. As a Walmart shopper I got the 96 oz lactose free milk in the plastic container. Thank you again for all the good shopping tips. Enjoy all your videos.

The "white" Jolly Time Popcorn is the best popcorn, made up in the microwave with a popper, can't remember the name of it, around $20 on Amazon, Power something. Add melted butter and nutritional yeast to flavor the popcorn. To the popped popcorn, add and mix in a couple of handfuls of Crunch 'n Munch. This is such a delicious snack.

Hi Sadie Jane, glad you enjoy the channels. I had no idea how many older gamers there are until we made this video. Surprisingly, not too many old west graves nearby. On my road trip I finally made it to Tombstone cemetery, which was on my bucket list. I'll be sharing that visit on the other channel in the coming months. I usually only share one a week, so it's going to take a while to edit and upload them all.

Your refrigerator was so neat/clean & well stocked. Now, I don't feel to guilty with my love of ice cream (ha ha). I do a lot of shopping at Walmart too. Not all the time mostly. I too Jim like grapes,cherries, avocados. I thought I paid a lot here (WV) not my home state just temporarily living here.
I paid 1.78 for an avocado. Love my guacamole. Steve I'm an ice cream addict mostly just summer months.
I try to keep it low cal too! Walmarts ice cream sandwich are good low cal and good humor has creamsicles are great too and the fudge bars you got all low cal.

I have to say, this was my first video watching someone putting away their shopping lol I guess there's the 'food voyer' in us all lol
I'm in the UK so our produce is quite different, so I find that interesting.
I have also fallen in love with Palm Springs through your videos. I plan on returning to LA in 2026 (huge Marilyn fan & she would be 100 that year) & PS is on my to do list for sure.
Is there a local bus service generally in PS?

I just found out how much I like frozen grapes. I cut my red grapes in half and put them in the freezer overnight. WOW ! I'm going to be eating these next week as a snack when we get in the 100˚ s.

I love iceberg lettuce too, but people sure do like to make fun of that. My older sister says I may as well just drink water, but water doesn't crunch! I love it on sandwiches, too! OMG Crunch and Munch is my treat buy for myself every other week, too.

A Fun Video! Loved the haul! We have the same Bag Ban here in New Jersey. Sometimes it's a pain in the neck when you don't go through self checkout and the customer (me lol) has to bag all the goodies, which sometimes holds up the line. 😂 Happy 4th of July to you Steve and Jim!! ❤

Well Steve, you have often commented on the difference between your diets, now I can see that Jim the healthy eater. And you were not kidding when you said previously that you love ice-cream!
Besides looking at the calories, you should also be mindful of the carbohydrates and sugars.
The cost of everything has really increased, there isn't anything that hasn't gone up. I've noticed that many of the groceries I buy have almost doubled in price and some have. Plus the size of products has decreased as well. An example; I buy Starbucks coffee at the store, the bag size was 12oz now they are down to 7oz! The chicken and eggs have gone up so much due to the loss of poultry from the bird flu. And sadly prices are only going to continue to climb. Many families are struggling now, I don't know what they are going to do in the near future.

I haven’t seen the dill pickle salads! I love the prepared salads by Taylor Farms and Fresh Express, they are so good. I usually get the great value croissant bacon egg and cheese. I’ll have to check out the kind Jim gets!

You guys are the best I was laughing through all the video 😂 it seems strange but it is fun to see what food other people buy and sometimes I get some good tips like the lactose free milk expiration date I didn’t know that and is good to know, at first i was team Jim because let’s face it his food is way healthier than yours Steve and he’s got all the food I like ,but then i see you like progresso soups and that’s my favorite thing to eat for years I been buying those soups and I never get tired of them I like them all!!!! I am living in Mexico now and still shop at Walmart every week. Surprisingly prices are often higher in Mexico than they are in the States, especially for things like sheets and towels.

Thank you for sharing. I was really surprised about the expense of the fruit. I guess I expected it to be cheaper in California since it is grown there. Also, I was impressed your kitchen is so neat and organized.
It is ironic and infuriating that it's grown here, but it all seems to be shipped out of state! Most of the produce we get here is awful and expensive. :-( Thanks Ellen.

I teach in a jail, and I always wear my mask there. I also still wear it when running errands. My weekend summer job at a greenhouse is outside, so I do not wear a mask there. I haven't gotten sick in the last two years, and especially at the jail, it just seems safer, so I keep wearing it. So, I am happy to see I am not alone. This was a fun thing to watch. I have no idea why, but it was. I like watching everything you post :)
We'd probably all be better off if we wore masks all the time. I don't mind when I'm in crowds or in stores, but it might be difficult to wear them all day for a job. But whatever works, right? Thanks Jennifer! :-)

We both walk at least a couple of miles every day and in the summer we also swim. I also do some weight resistant light lifting for upper body strength. We shared a video a while back about our walking. If you search our videos you'll find that video. Thanks Sue!

Hello Steve and Jim! As much as I also enjoy ice cream, I'm thinking of buying a Ninja CREAMi ice cream maker. Might cost a little bit, but in the long run, could be cheaper than all the boxes, and containers, of the stuff we buy. And can make more healthy options, with different ingredients, when we want a snack. Who knows, even Jim might make ice cream too.

The best ice cream I ever had was made by my uncle Bart, when I was a kid. It was just plain vanilla, but I've never had better since. I think it was an old fashioned contraption with a hand crank. I like your Ninja idea. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for sharing that with us Shannon!

Wow Steve..watching what you guys buy, I'm more in line with your haul. We have much in common food wise. Most of what you got is same as what I like as well. There's other things I've noticed too. An I just think it is so cool. I don't like broccoli like Jim, but I love Brussels sprouts. And didn't when I was a kid. I also ate everything in the world when I was young w/o gaining weight. We were also lucky like that. It ended in my 30s. So I have to be careful. I was kind of a jock in high school but not so much now. Lol Anyway, was fun to compare. 😉
