You seem confused - the Civil was was between the King and the forces of Parliament with Cromwell becoming their chief General. Why are so critical of the pietists and quietists (both making major contributions to US religion - especially the pietists) and yet are sympathetic to the puritans who are reviled to this day. The people hated the puritans and this is one of the reasons that the Puritan commonwealth collapsed following the death of the dictator Cromwell. Quietism was a strong component to Quakerism which was very influential. Pietism is a major element in modern evangelicalism. This reason that this period is so interesting is that the issues are still with us.
