    Doctors diagnosed Aubrey with scoliosis when she was 9 years old. She underwent a tethering procedure when she was 14. It allowed her to bend and maintain flexibility so she could continue dancing.

    Oh my god. This gives me hope. Just to know that there is someone out there who was able to get through it and was able to dance afterwards

    She’s doing so well. I’m almost 5 months after surgery and I’ve been a dancer for ten years and it makes me sad to know that I can’t dance much at the moment. Plus my mom is very protective, so she didn’t allow me to return to my dance classes until a year passed. So I’m trying to practice a little at home without over doing it.

    Yesterday was my 19 year scoliosis surgery anniversary. I didn’t have the tethering surgery, but the traditional scoliosis surgery.

      hi! I am so to glad to have seen this comment, can I know what exactly your surgery was? i had my spinal fusion around three years ago and I'm really curious what to expect for my quality of life when I'm much much older or years after surgery,

      I had the same surgery as you 30 years ago. I was diagnosed with severe double scoliosis at 11. I had to wear a brace for 1 year because they wanted me to grow some more. I have rods down most of my spine. That's awesome she's able to dance and be that flexible!

      @@tth9214 I had surgery for it 30 years ago. You should be fine!! I used to do a lot of physical labor in my 20s and 30s and I never had any pain or issue. I have some pain now but I'm getting in my 40s and I"m having pain a lot of different areas in my body! Lol! I never had kids so I can't tell you how it was to have scoliosis and be pregnant.

    I would love to talk to you more about this. My daughter has been in a brace for almost 4 years and is now at the point for surgery. She’s been dancing since she was 4 and is turning 14 next week. Is there anyway we could connect to talk? How old was your daughter when she got the surgery and what was her curve?

    I just had my surgery 3 weeks ago :) but won't our flexibility reduce after surgery? How can Aubrey be so flexible? Maybe cuz she trained since little?

    • @aberry7415
      @aberry7415 Před 2 lety +8

      Spinal fusion is exactly as it sounds. You're fusing the spine together. With spinal tethering there's a lot more motion since the back can bend.

    • @aberry7415
      @aberry7415 Před 2 lety +4

      Personally, when I got spinal tethering about 5 years ago. I wasn't aloud to run until 3 months after surgery. Looking back 5 months would definitely be fine for physical activity like dance.
      Also, I wish you the best if luck on your recovery. I'm happy to see that the experiment surgery I got 5 years ago is now helping people

      Don't worry. If you're an adult it won't progress but if you're still a teen you should either get a brace or like me (i have around 13° scoliosis) start doing exercise made up for your scoliosis curve. They can slow down the progression or stop it from progressing and with time they can reduce the curve. But you should be patient, it won't get reduced in 2 weeks, it needs months or even years. You can try the scrotch method or physical therapy
