- I Bought a BROKEN Onewheel - Let's Fix It! The seller said it charges normally but just won't go. They also said they took it apart to figure out what was wrong... which might mean more trouble for me. Either way, the first thing is to start taking it apart and see what I can figure out. This is my first time trying to fix a Onewheel so hopefully I'm able to figure it out.

If you like watching me fix random stuff like this you'll probably like the video where I tried to fix a bunch of Nerf guns: czcams.com/video/gHc27YmCAts/video.html
When u were on the one wheel it was hilarious I can tell u were struggling Steve.
Thanks so much not only for this channel but your willingness to crack open things you don't usually do. The variety and methodical approach is very fascinating.
@@MetulManiac Thanks! So glad you're enjoying these videos.
What do you use in order to fix a PS4 by the way I love your videos
Great, i usually watch just console videos here, but that's actually pretty funny
The shot of you rolling across like a boss at 10:58 is brilliant.
Yeah!
Definitely an epic moment
Awesome video!! I've taken apart at least a couple dozen onewheels at this point for repairs and stuff like that. Headlights going out is the most common issue. That ferrite ring in there was a last minute engineering addition and so they didn't anticipate it moving around enough to wear out the wire connections to the LEDs.
Heads up about how you separated the controller case from the module: Usually it needs heat to soften up the adhesive seal. That separation is the trickiest part of the whole operation, because doing so can easily damage the two round middle plugs. More specifically, cranking it like that can pull the pins away from the board they're soldered to. A separation of even just a fraction of a millimeter is enough to either disrupt the footpad sensor or the motor hall sensor. If you look very closely you can see the crack in the solder on the backside of the vertical board where the pins slot through, which then goes to to the main board. I usually just reflow the solder to all 5 pins on both plugs before packing it back up.
Looks like you lucked out with them not being damaged!! But if the motor starts sounding SUPER crunchy or the footpads don't seem to be working, that's likely the problem. Good luck and congrats on getting the best personal electric vehicle in existence!!
Hey Wren! I knew you'd be here :D
Just as soon as the video ended i came looking for you Wren!
Thanks for your comment! Good to know. Also, really cool channel you got there.
Ha, ha…wow, and I thought your old channel was good. You’re killing it!
Dude it's Wren! Man I love your stuff so much. How's the shoulder doing now?
I have several onewheel's if you dont get scared off after your first major crash, (and you will have at least one serious fall) you will love it. I saw this and have never been more excited seeing a merging of my two favorite hobbies!
Haven't had a major crash yet but I'm sure I will at some point. Love it so far.
Also get a helmet for the for at least the first couple hundred miles you ride it.
Be sure to respect push back :) Welcome to the onewheel club!
How much do these cost
@@mrelo007 $1800 for the XR. Worth every penny though!
Haha I have two onewheels. The little dust cloud at the end told me he just ate it. Be safe and don't forget to NEVER dismount with your rear foot first. Please invest in a proper helmet as well.
Lol...I actually jumped off before I fell. Yes, a helmet is a must
If he keeps going on this path we will be getting videos like "I bought this broken Boston dynamics robo dog to see if i can fix it"
Wow, what would be a fun one!
The video after that would be called "The robo dog I just repaired is trying to kill me. Lets see if I can break it." 😜
@@The_Keeper "I will tear it down and remove the ideal amount of thermal paste"
Now we need a video of you just riding across camera in different environments.
That's a great idea!
I mean if there was no fixing at least add some comedy gold at the end right
smooth B roll in the sunset
“A viewer sent me these broken landscapes, and now I’m going to fix it.”

Love the random repairs, always a nice change. Would enjoy more videos like this and the old Nerf repairs video you did.
I need to do more Nerfs! That was a fun video!
I loved this breakdown as much as all your other ones, but the Wile E. Coyote dust cloud at the end was an added bonus!
Appreciate your channel. I've never been too scared to tinker, just a bit overwhelmed sometimes. After watching your videos, I felt comfortable enough to break out the soldering iron and fixed a couple of old boards that needed their audio connectors replaced by moving them around from the ports I didn't use to the ones that I did use. If not for your channel, I likely would have thrown it all away.
You're saving the landfills and environment bit by bit! Keep up the good work. Thanks for the content. Thanks for saving the planet! ;)
I love that you're expanding to other electronics and not just sticking with consoles and controllers. I know it's the safe play but I just finished watching the double camera video...and it's proof that you're a legend! Thanks for all your amazing videos. Always looking forward to the next one!
This was a fun surprise to see on the channel! My dad has a one wheel and I've used it on the beach when I visit.
Just remember that there is a governor on it and it WILL shutoff on its own if you ignore its warnings to slow down (it'll start kicking up the front) or else you'll end up like me who catapulted 15 feet in the air going about 20 mph on the beach haha
Yep, I've heard about that!
Those things are awesome! Congrats on the purchase and I hope you have a lot of fun with it!
Nice video! I don't know if it was intentional, but that little puff of dust after you exited the frame on the last test, that was pure gold!
That was great. It brought me so much joy to see it work again. Well done!
i got 2 Pints and borrowing a XR at the moment, and i just started to build extended battery packs for the pints, i was frothin when i saw you did a video on an XR in the detailed way you go about things. so awesome brother!
Steve going across the frame, arms crossed, staring at the camera lmfao
MAJOR kudos for showing yourself riding it at the end. I feel like a lot of people wouldn't.
Great video idea for sure! Let me know if you ever have any questions. I’ve been working on these boards for almost two years and would be happy to share pointers any time.
In this case, the footpad and hall sensor barrel connectors were installed in the wrong positions (0:44). When you reassembled the board, you did it correctly (including the color-coordinated plastic nuts) which resolved the issue. Good job!
Enjoyable video, I love how you make repair content other than video game consoles.
You're the man! Glad you got it up and running!!!
I can't wait to try one of these, they look like so much fun!
Fantastic! Love seeing your channel blooming!
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?Hope you’re having a good day?GOD BLESS YOU!!❤️💝
Yes! New video! I’ve always wanted one of these too. Just don’t want to bust my “burrow.”
Ha, ha...me neither. I haven't yet
Good to see ya workin on different toys, If I could find one for half the price I'd love to get one!
This is why I subbed to you Steve! Love this kind of content
So glad you like it!
Yeeeeeeees!!!!! My favorite repair youtuber rides my favorite electric vehicle
Hahah you are such a computer repairman. The first thing I would have done as a mechanic would've been to test to power output to the motor and work backward from there, not the other way around lol. Good job dude.
It's nice to see you in a new place on your video. Its always in the studio :D
Ah man more of these! So cool to see what really makes the OneWheel tick
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?Hope you’re having a good day?GOD BLESS YOU!!❤️💝
Love seeing you trying to fix things for the first time. How much did that "broken" one wheel cost you?
Those are expensive as hell! Nice find for what was thought to be broken and works as it should. Saved some money there.
Another Friday, another video. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!
Hope you enjoy!
Was not expecting a onewheel haha. Great video. Your channel has become my favorite.
Thank you! So glad you're enjoying these
Mate, that was so good! Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow. Nice one; I never seen this or worked on such a device before. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
Great video as always! Question: have you ever thought of fixing Gaming PC’s?
You're awesome man! Go on, with your steady vids :)
Very nice job Steve!
Enjoyed this different repair
You are the man Steve!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad to see you outside the studio
Some fun is always needed to release stress
Agreed!
It must be really fun. Nice fix my friend
Could you apply the perfect amount of thermal paste while riding the one wheel? Nice diagnosis as always!
Onewheels are a thing of the past convert to the dark side EUC's! Love your videos btw =)
10:58 his face expression!! Loved the video!!
Great video as always, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
hope your friend does tech reviews. great video as always
that bit of dust kicking up at the end haha, shame that wasn't in shot :D
This happened to me with PSPs from multiple sellers, there was just a screw missing or some scratches, but after a good cleaning everything worked!
Very nice video 🤣 you've got talent for buying broken stuff that's not really broken, i wish i could do that on a Ps5 😉 have a good weekend Steve
I wish everything I bought was like that!
Haha LOVING the confidence at 11:00 😁 It looks like so much fun...
LOL! The puff of dust at the end of that clip was me jumping off before I fell! That being said these are super easy to ride imo
@@Tronicsfix look like some modern james bond villian^^
some excellent onewheel riding steve
I bought a onewheel this year. Love it!
Watching Steve riding the board at the end made my day.
You seemed to get the hang of it pretty fast. It must be thanks to the good motor control you also display time after time when you are soldering the tiny components.
idk...it was just easy for me to ride. Much easier than a hoverboard
Thank you for introducing me to the FLIR ONE Gen 3 - Android USB-C - Thermal Camera for Smart Phones , I did not know that it is even existing
Wow, amazing. Great job.
Glad you like it!
I’m“jelly” ! I love “One Wheel” but can’t bring my myself to buy one. I was glad to see you try it, have fun !
If you have the money I think you'll love them!
definitely do more of these random electronics!
FM about to sue you too for showing how easy it is to fix it lol thanks for sharing
Awesome video 😃👍🏻
One of the few channels i leave a like even before finishing the video.
Really appreciate that!
Sellers listing did mention they replaced the foot pad, not sure if that's where they went wrong, but a nice win for you as a result
Love the videos..kind of learn some
Arms crossed cruising past the camera.... Like a frickin boss!!!! Nice!
I don't know if you look at comments on old videos, so.... Your camera repair video. I had taken my camera apart. I was waiting for parts. You said to let you know.... SO! The parts arrived. As an UltraPro like yourself knows, it's a lot easier to take something apart, than it is to put it back together correctly..... So, maybe 5 hours, with my face in one of those ring lighted magnifying glasses... lotta false starts, take it back apart, puzzle it out... But it IS BACK TOGETHER AND WORKING PERFECT!!! Yes it is. I managed to do it. Now, yes, I am a tech in a different industry.... But Steve, YOU inspired me to try it. And I bought the IFixIt Pro whatever Tool Kit with your link, so I had that sitting here.... That kit is awesome, by the way... I don't know if you are still working with them, but that is a first class toolkit....
So, if you ever think you don't make a difference, you're wrong. You inspired me to try, and I did it... And I'm not gonna lie, I feel pretty smug about it. So thank you Steve. Thank you for your videos, thank you for inspiring me, thank you for all you do. And there is your update....
I'm not gonna lie, I might look pretty sexy buzzing through my subdivision on a OneWheel, heading to the pool or the workout center.... but holy crap, those guys aren't cheap..... (I'm lying my a$$ off, even a OneWheel wouldn't make me look sexy...)
Best comment ever! So glad you got it working! Nice work. Really love hearing stuff like this.
Steve’s next T-shirt…if it ain’t broke, I’ll fix it ‘til it is…including my own neck. I love how we’re left to our own imaginations to interpret the puff of smoke or dust at the very end. ;)
Ha, ha...glad you like that part! Here's to hoping I don't have to fix my own broken neck!
11:41 .... this puff of dust man .... I know you fell off this thing LOL !!!!. Good vid Steve.
i saw this too lol
You videos make me want to fix stuff. I have an Onkyo amplifier that has a HDMI card with bad capacitors. It's a goal to see if I can fix it
Nice Job man!
Thanks for the visit
I don't know what legislation exists in the UK but in US but it's "illegal"* to use "warranty void if removed" stickers although they're used all the time. It's directly informing the customers that they don't have rights where they do.
I believe most jurisdictions are either moving towards this themselves or already have it.
* "consumer law" is an unenforced joke
It's perfectly possible this One Wheel's manufacture date predates that ruling.
It's the same in the states, doesn't stop them from telling people they won't help if they're damaged or removed though.
Yaay! Tronics Friday!
Great work idea.. we all drool for it,, please suceed
Congrats on fixing something broken that really wasn’t lol. Extra special since it’s $1800 new and so much fun to ride. Enjoy it or sell it for a lot of money. The used market for it is huge so you’ll make a lot.
That drive by with the arms crossed! 🤣 BOSS!
Awesome. Was that puff of dust you falling off there at the end?! 😁
When I had my repair center, I never turned down anything just to break up the monotony of repairing telecommunications equipment. My best repairs were an autopilot for a sailboat and a controller for a dynamic vibration analyzer for an engine balancing shop. I moved into auto ECM’s, LED tail light repairs for the local Caddy dealership and “waterproof” water damaged radios for Harleys. Great times. Good money too. I enjoy your channel sir.
ECM's seem like a high profit repair. How did you get into it? I've thought about doing some of that myself.
@@Tronicsfix My first fix was a 90-91? Corvette that had intermittent communication with the BCM, ABS ETC. It ended up being a serial receiver driver IC that ran the serial buss. A new ECM was $900 give or take. I’m sure they have gotten much more sophisticated but I see that they are 3rd Party repairable. I don’t get a chance to work on that stuff anymore. I am an RF specialist now troubleshooting and fixing VHF communication equipment. I see that you are onboard with the right to repair as I am. We are fortunate that our equipment manufacturer is good with parts and even holds tech training for us. I’m all about breathing a little more life into tired equipment to keep it out of the land fills. Keep up the good work. Bench techs are becoming scarce. Pass your knowledge on to the next generation.
We would like more vids for you balancing on the one wheel!!
Nice going old chap !.....cheers.
Very cool dude 😊
The 50+ people who disliked are the ones who all fell off their OneWheeler's lol...
I said it before & I'll say it again but louder this time You Steve are a *LEGEND*
absolutely Loved this sort of vid.
i have one question did you fall at the end of the video cause i saw a little dirt cloud? Great video keep fixing random things cause its inspiring me to fix everything as well.
when you working with the tire, unplug the battery. in case it gone crazy suddenly.
you don't want to stick your finger between the rotating wheel and the metal body.
Definitely would like to see an update of you cruising around on it. But get a helmet for sure. 👍
That Is Awesome
Great Video 😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I understand more about how you fixed this than why this thing exists in the first place!
This thing is super fun to ride!
@@Tronicsfix Looks it! :)
Wow very cool video Congrats
I got a Onewheel Pint, best thing I've bought in a very long time. So much fun!
Yes! Great buy
good job mate.
ive never seen one of these before at all, but now i want one 😂
You need one! In fact, you can't afford NOT to buy one...lol
What a great idea might inspire someone to save something from the landfill
Hey steve great work,
I have a problem my motorola tklr T81 hunter walki talkie didn’t work
what can i do ?
You can buy the replacement wire that you broke from Bob's Stoke Shop. I just fixed mine because mine did the same.
You should see if there are any Revel Kits. If you like skateboarding or are comfortable on them they’re a great option for travel/commute.
Steve do some bad ass tricks on it. 😀
Love the channel!! but i have to ask how much did you get it for? your a master at this stuff! have fun please get safety gear!!! you WILL fall and i have 2000 plus on mine so your its like new looks like the other owner just did not take care of it? they are not water proof. have fun and get out and enjoy it!!!!!
I like your console fixes better, but still a cool video.
Fair enough
Fuhk yeah man you came up !! How much did you pay for it ?
it could be that since you found sand on the seal around the cable the seller might of got sand stuck in the power button jamming it in. pulling it completely apart let the sand out allowing things to work
lmao the dust at the end when you go off camera.
