I am so scared when the aircraft just shakes a little in a normal flight. And then there are these people, just fly into a hurricane.
Respect.
Bro is chillin flying into a hurricane like its another Tuesday...meanwhile I struggle boarding a Delta to the Bahammas...
hahaha
:D :D
Flew straight into the upside down world.
That's messed up
Just remember. The pilots don’t want to crash just as much as you don’t…😅
Flying through this for the first time must be an incredibly freaky feeling
Normal flight: "CB on ahead, let's evade, to the right"
Hurricane Hunter flight: "Now... where's the Hurricane?! Ah there you are, let's get right into it"
Awesome flight, stay healthy for all of us & Safety First! Peace across the Globe ✌😉
Literally, this has to be the coolest job in the world!
That plane must weight a lot with all those balls of steel onboard.
My grandpa did a short time on P-3C's with VP-45 during his 25 years of service with the Navy. Instead of hunting hurricanes, he was patrolling off the Florida coast hunting submarines.
I worked as a Mechanic, Maintenance Inspector and Propulsion Shop Tech for over 2 decades w/ a U.S. Major Commercial Air Carrier and seeing an A/C put up with those flight conditions still astounds me, even though it shouldn't.
The fact that these Lockheed WP-3D Orion A/C date back 47 years tells you all you need to know about how thorough A/C maintenance is today and how much they knew about A/C in the mid 70's. Lockheed airframe and Rolls Royce Engines, tough to beat.

I would absolutely love to be on that plane.
I stopped fearing death a while ago myself lol.
I too absolutely LOVE turbulence.
You guys are Awesome. Thanks for all your hard work and the risks you take. Love those old P3s. Used to work on them in the Navy.
You are the true weather heroes putting your lives out there so that the rest of us can be able to maneuver safely around the hurricanes.
Awesome video and thank you all for your service. This NEVER gets old!
I love the Hurricane Hunters: their flying lab, Kermit on watch duty in the cockpit, the dedicated scientists tracking the weather beasts, and last, but not least, the pilots with nerves of steal. After getting tossed around, the interior of the plane looked like the remnants of a drunken frat party.
Looks like flying through a lovecraft hellscape that’s really beautiful.
God what I would give to be able to work on an airplane in conditions like this.
4:32 has some amazing flying, look at that artificial horizon being relatively stable
I always wanted to fly these. Before they were nicknamed Kermit and Miss Piggy I got to walk through one of them at an airshow in Homestead Florida and asked the pilot why they used a turboprop aircraft. As I had suspected, it was because they have access to almost instant power from the engines if need be. They keep the 210kt penetration speed this way. Lockheed built some stout airframes here. Glad they were upgraded
Nice landing too
love the Kermit the Frog windshield hanger 👍💯
So cool
That looks like a lot of fun.
Man look at those paddles. Needs em. It ain't flying, it's swimming through that stuff.
man i would love to fly on that plane
This would be so fun to do
If there were another aircraft in that hurricane, would you be able to detect it?
It might be more interesting to use some more exciting music for this.
I thought lightning was rare in Hurricane clouds
Duhhh it's real it's a massive thunder storms after all
Bro. Storm chases are built different.
I assume basically everyone onboard has at last a Masters. If you need somebody to serve drinks let me know
Bangin soundtrack. I want the track list
What are the tubes they are dropping?
5:55 - is that Ye?
I always wondered what the procedure is if something goes wrong and your flying through that hurricane. Like if you crash are you just doa I mean seems like it’s either you make it back or you don’t type situation like submarine crews
Well, pretty much. Of course, it depends on a variety of factors (how far out you are, what kind of aircraft you're flying, what type of failure you have, etc). Lot's of planning goes into these kind of missions though, and I'm sure there's an alternate airport somewhere close if they needed it. There are also likely lot's of checkpoints as well before making the final decision to proceed into the storm, and if something goes wrong on any of those checks they are likely to return to the airport and scrub the mission. Again, I don't fly this kind of stuff so this is all speculation based upon my knowledge.
The pilot is skillfull
Just to think the first dudes that flew in to a hurricane did it to settle a bet on how tough an AT-6 was.
Pretty cool FE y’all got there 😎
Surprised the crew in the back didn’t have everything strapped down
Any chance of a music free version ?
It would be much better.
I wonder if they ask you "you're about to fly a perfectly good aircraft into a hurricane, how do you feel?" Like the first time you jump out of a plane they ask "you're about to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, how do you feel?" Lol
The 53rd in Biloxi are the real Hurricane Hunters, NOAA couldn’t come up with their own name
Is there a version we can watch without the music, just the coms?
1:58 I love how the clouds are so heavy it shifts the plane in flight. Wouldn't jets be more effective at this? I'm not sure why'd you would use a prop plane to storm chase. Maybe so the engines don't flame out when flying into storms seems to be the only reason I could guess.
We fly the P-3, Turboprop. Yes, it helps with extreme precip ingestion. Also has more immediate power available at our lower altitude than a straight Turbine or Turbofan would.
@RadicalRann great video! What are those tubes one of the crew members is sending out??
@@jonnythedemon dropsondes. They're probes that measure atmospheric data.
Turboprops are the most reliable aircraft engines. They also have four for extreme redundancy
@@RadicalRann could you please tell us the song name at the ending
no one knows how this plane was capable to fly with the weight of these dude balls 😂
I was thinking similarly.
Ryan air be like
I want the “Tube launcher” job !
Imagine your job being to find the worst turbulence on the planet, and to fly into it, on purpose....at night. My god. And they look like such a happy bunch of lunatics. I'm in awe.
That's called loving your job if I've ever seen it. Us aviators and sailors love shit like this, really builds a relationship between you and your aircraft. I'd love to be working on a rocking airplane or ship any day over office work.
Flying storm chasers
Is it me or the turbulence doesn't seem that bad? 😲😲
Not as bad as southwest, can tell you that
@@noisypr6048 you do know the pilots can't control that right?
they can to an extent: for one, fighting the turbulence makes it worse; it is best to ride the waves. For two, pilots can adjust their altitude when stronger turbulence is expected@@coasternut3091
Best way it was described to me. Normal airplanes we fly on go so fast 500+ and hit turbulence dramatically we feel that going that fast. With these its more like going slow over a speedbump rather than go as fast as we can over them
I wonder, what happen for sensors/captors dropped once the hurricane is gone ? Are they left in the ocean? Is there a recovering mission?
Nope... the Wind is so strong that they go into outer space!!! It's truly amazing!
Tough old bird!
5:57 is that kanye east? lol
These are some of the baddest, motherfucking pilots man they’re awesome
What are those tubes they were sending out?
Weather data recorders
weather data recorder doesnt tell you much. Its a dropsonde
How does it get the tubes back?
You don't get the tubes back. Lol
There is a guy in a boat down below that catches them as they fall. They like to hire former NFL wide receivers for that job.
Thats what i thought mate but i was thiking that it must cost a fortune@@Ballaholic17
I so wish this was true, can you imagine? @@soflaav8r
Terbang untuk ilmu pengetahuan, sangat berani mungkin ini satu-satunya pesawat yang mendekat mata badai di mana pesawat lain menghindarinya
Why is there no light in the cockpit that is so weird
Standard for a flight station. Make as little light as possible so it’s easier to see everything outside the plane
Please expect very heavy turbulence
Sam was actually a category five.
Thanks for the comment. Sam was a CAT 4 during my mission that this footage came from.
@@RadicalRann You're always welcome, and I agree with your comment.
@@StevenWxblud think bro is a time traveler 🙏😭🗣️🔥
anyone else get baked to views like this?
They really need a professional photographer on board.
Crew flyies inito hurricanes, but hates riding rollercoasters (most likely a lie)
