I may like some of the other players in the future but I didn’t like the way they treated Caitlyn when she first arrived. I have never watched a WNBA basketball game before. That is how I was as well. Clark pulled me back into wanting to watch, I think, because she displays what seems like a real love of game as well as dedication to team and fans. She shares her energy and doesn't make it just about her yet takes on responsibility too. She is a rare balance of talent with enthusiasm for the fans. She inspires not just young girls but young boys too. She is an example of what sports use to have more of before players just worried about how much money they would make. Ironic that in the process, she got big money offers!

She and her like are the reason the WNBA "was agonizing for a quarter of a century" envy at it's uttermost.
I'm one of those new fans who read about this incredibly talented kid from Iowa who was on the verge of breaking historic NCAAW Div 1 records. So I tuned in and was entertained and felt as I watched the records smashed. I followed her to the WNBA and watched Clark playing quite well for a rookie who gets 60% more attention on both offense and defense than any other player in the league. I also watched this NBC Sports conversation that devolved into culture (black and lesbian), dog whistles, etc. I still enjoy following Clark, but I miss the professional offense and defense of the Hawkeyes. The Fever has not matched it yet. I don't like the "culture" crap the broadcasters throw out and their commercials dish out. The announcers talk about who is engaged to whom... I just want to be entertained by a good game of basketball! Time out to commercial and on comes a bio piece on George Floyd. Then at half time a piece about player "activism" and they are all kneeling in a row wearing their "black lives matter" t-shirts. I really don't care what kind of sex players are having, or who they are having it with. I don't care if they are black or brown or yellow or white. I just want an entertaining basketball product. This is so weird. I don’t care about WNBA but I love baseball and when Ohtani became big and people who didn’t care about baseball started talking about him with me it was like Christmas for me. It never occurred to me to tell them off for not knowing other players. These people are nuts
But im sure when those new baseball fans came, they didn't come in spewing a bunch of racists insults at the current players.....They didn't come in comment sections arguing about baseball, making NO sense being that they don't even know the game.

The WNBA comprises players and commentators that exist as an activist enclave. New fans can't enjoy it the way they want to. It's really tiring. In addition to the commentators you mentioned, ESPN is a denizen of similar commentators I've started avoided because of the disdain and condescension. So I just go to YT channels that are put out by fans. This political activism is a microcosm of what's happening with network news, which I stopped watching years ago, in lieu of independent media.

First it was cuz the game sucked. Now it’s also cuz their customer service sucks. Most of us know basketball. What makes WNBA so different from NBA or NCAA that we need to relearn the game?
