  • Crossed threaded hub studs - Tap and die set, in this video, I repair a threaded stud bolt on the rear hub of my mondeo mk3 ST220.
    I was not going to film this as sometimes it nice to do some work on the car without a camera in my face, but then i thought this tap and die set tool could honestly help someone out and save some cash in replacing the hubs on your car. I would of used oil but had none left over from the recent oil change I had done so WD40 helped a bit here.
    I had noticed that two of the studs had two cross threaded studs on, so i dug out the tap and die set out and decide to repair them. Only the first couple of threads was damaged and stopping the lug nuts going back on nicely.
    This tap and die set is a must for anyone who works on cars regular and this simple tool can be a life saver.

    So, as I said in the video I was not going to record this then thought I would as it just might help someone out so here it is. I did check with my Mechanic friend on doing this just for peace of mind as it was only the first thread or two that need re-threading as once the nut is passed this point then they sit and hold just fine, plus i replaced the nuts too and he said it would be fine.
    So all is OK but you can if you prefer replace the whole hub.

    The Mondeo nuts are made of cheese mate. Nice upload tho mate never thought of taping them just always bought a new hub as they are fairly cheap.With some new nuts.👍👍

    Chazz, when you showed us the die it looked like you could use a socket and ratchet after you got it started.

    Die nuts are an alternative of course. Turn with a spanner. Bit of an expense though

      Chazz Coombes was about to say haven’t you changed a couple of hubs due to bearings first thing I did when got old ones off was to knock out the studs just incase😊

    What's the cause of this? Can it caused by putting them back on using a machine incorrectly?

    • @walboyfredo6025
      @walboyfredo6025 Před rokem +1

      Some time its the case the garage "loses" the actually nut and force an "incorrect" nut with a power tool, thus damaging the thread!
