- An extremely rare 'bootleg' recording of Kirsten at her 40th anniversary concert in Oslo. The audio quality is quite poor compared to what I would usually post, but the quality of the soprano is quite superb so definitely worth sharing.
I have more excerpts from this concert (including her last ever Hojotoho!), but in dreadful quality and full of cuts. I will post them eventually when I get some time to clean the audio a bit.
Conductor - Unknown
Music - Beethoven
Oslo Philharmonia Orchestra
12 December 1953.
Beautiful, opulent voice.
Brava. Flagstad!! Brava!! Brava!!!!!!!!!
What an enormous artist she was. Thank you for posting and please share the rest of this concert if you have it!
Thank you for the comment, I will post what I have eventually when I get the time to clean the audio.
My girl! I get so much inspiration from her and this is no exception. Thanks for sharing!
Quite the treat! I’ve always loved Flagstad. Don’t associate her with Mozart, but again, what a treat!
This piece was actually composed by Beethoven, not Mozart
Shame on me!!! I should have known. Thank you for the correction…..will be more careful next time!
Her timbre is incredibly dark here.
It was always quite dark, but she was 58(!) here and I think it makes sense for the voice to get a little darker with age.

The coloratura is also pretty clean, though not as good as her ‘37 or ‘48 recordings which are completely effortless.
The B - flats sounds like Farrell at some points
Have you heard Farrell’s own version of this? (czcams.com/video/SVz7fJ9e17k/video.html). Great musicality but the B-flats a little underwhelming (studio recording so maybe why).
I like Grace Bumbry’s version a lot.
@@dramaticsoprano5168 I never find Farrell's top is quite comfortable to listen emission wise and this recording is no expectation.
@@omarsomehow69 Do you think Farrell had a bad top? I find her high Bs beautiful and her top C in Turandot studio is quite good.
@@dramaticsoprano5168 not bad, but emission is unclear.
@@dramaticsoprano5168 It also depended on which point of her career one is listening to, as is the case with most artists.
