    @freepete I was the blue player in this game. To start out, I want to say it was you who actually got me into playing against people in risk, vice against bots. Long story short, I ended up on your videos through youtube suggestions and here we are. I now watch almost all of your content and it has helped me progress my game. Keep up the great work!! I have since made it to GM!!
    These settings can make for really long games. I tend to play at night, from my phone and have had games last between 3-5hrs regularly. I now look for fixed caps games since they tend to go quicker.
    Early on in the game I had all that material in NA and was using that to take cards, I did not want NA. My 1st instinct was that you were good based on moves you made and I could possibly have someone to trade cards with!! YES, I will happily go 1st/2nd (14:40) with you in this game!!! :)
    To answer your burning question that you wanted to know. I made the move against purple at 22:03 for 2 reasons. 1st, to advance the game and hopefully not get into another 4hr game. 2nd, purple was on 5 cards. I figured with attackers advantage, i could isolate him in SA and with the sets still being so low, he could not retaliate against me. I vaguely remember that I may have had a joker and could set on 3 my next turn to not be too weak. Green could not get to me and I banked that you did not want to hurt your position to go after me. I did not care about the Aussie position. I kept putting small amounts of troops on it too, if it got attacked, make them spend an amount of troops and possibly get a bad roll to help me.
    When green card skipped I was about to as well, but when you took a card I decided to as well. I also got lucky when green decided to hit you. That is why I ignored when you told me to attack green earlier. Tried to build up some good will for late game scenarios, and I guess it worked. I also got lucky late with a set on 3 to be able to start to set up a card block and when you moved troops off cap to break it, it was my time to go for the double tap win. Either I got it or didn't, either way the game would end and I could get some sleep!! :)
    I enjoyed your feedback in game and it was a shock when I noticed watching the video today, that it was me in the game!! Thanks for the game, although, that late decline on the friend request hurt, lol!!!
    Side note, being such a small world, my wife used to live in Toronto until she move to the States when her marraige visa got approved. I've spent a good amount of time up there. Still have in-laws in Ontario and was raised in Port Huron, so, I'm an honorary Canadian!!!

    Blue took garbage cap for the same reason people intentionally play slow when they can play fast. Siam was available.

    I think that there are two reasons why Blue took Australia from Purple:
    1. To put Purple in a single position (perhaps Green would have been tempted to go for Purple after that).
    2. To try to progress the game.
    The move was a bit risky indeed. He/she gambled on that you would not try to take him/her out and both Green and Purple were not open to him/her.

    I have to say, watching this video shortly after watching your Risk Controversies: JJBruhh vs Bristleboss! KPO2 R6 video shows exactly why I really appreciate your content. I see very similar situations as far as player behavior in the two videos, but very different reactions to the outcomes. Both you and JJ made solid mechanical plays that had a 'he should have expected this' vibe in how you talked about the play during the game. However, in the aftermath, your reaction was 'I guess I shouldn't have done that' where his was 'why would he hit me for making a good play'. I haven't watched a ton of JJs vids, but I've seen him play in tourneys on other people's channels and heard talk of how good he is as a top player. I can see he is amazingly mechanically sound, but you talk about a factor he seems to lack, playing the players and not just the game. I much prefer to see more of your style to just the top mechanics. I'd love to see more Risk Controversies vids to see more of your analysis of why things happen, as best as you can determine.

    There is a reason to play bots. When you do you can skip through their turns almost instantly. That means you can get more practice at the mechanics (splitting, pathing, slidering, etc.) in a given time since your turn accounts for 90% of the time instead of 17-20%.

    Hi Pete, I can understand a posible reason of why people ready up to a lobby and then bot out after the start: Personally when I begun playing I would regret where I ould put my cap or not like my starting luck and just say "whatever I can join another game and start over". It is a selfish behaviour but i would bet it goes through many people is mind, at least untill they understand the game better
    Btw love your videos and the energy you bring, keep it up!

      There really should be a penalty against an account for botting out. like a cooldown of x minutes where you cant join another game. I know it wouldnt stop it all and it might catch a few with connection issues but it would be a good deterrent.

    • @FreePete
      @FreePete  Před 5 měsíci

      Yep I get it. It ruins a ton of games and videos and I'm quite surprised SMG hasn't designed a system to disincentivize it.

    Can someone explain 34:35 how purple loses with 363 vs 285 ?
    I'm using this risk odds calculator tool and it says that in a situation of 362 vs 285, the attacker supposedly wins 100 % of the 10000 simulated wins.
    Yet, we see in this video the attacker lost.
    I don't understand it.

    To be honest i think blue taking australia worked in his favor in this particular case. I didn't think a line like this could become worthy in classic progressive, but i like the play in general hoping he didn't really just want a useless Australia bonus.

    • @sheldokn
      @sheldokn Před 5 měsíci

      I was the blue player. I did not want the bonus. My full reason is posted above. I wanted to isolate purple to SA and not let him set with 5 cards in the kitty his next turn to have even more troops on that half of the board

    Also disillusioned by these settings. My last game lasted 3 hours. everyone lost by botting and it was a 1 v 1. I was probably going to lose anyway, but seeing all the positive rolls on my caps and the length of the game did it for me. I'm going back to classic fixed and prog world dom

    Pete you called purples original cap garbage which it is but I'm a bit disappointed that it hasn't become a mini segment in the fashion of " we don't force trade our joker because that would be dumb ". Would love hearing you say " thats why you don't cap in hot poo " still laughing over that from one of your previous videos 🤣.

    19:00 I haven't played an online match before. Only against bots, and I have confirmed that they target the player heavily. I was in Africa and South America. All the bots let this one bot get Australia, Europe, and Asia, while the same bot that got those 3 regions was card blocking me so bad. It came down to me and two bots. The other bot had North America. He than instead of attacking the 5 guard stack leading into Asia to break that bonus, he attacks my 20 stack I had in South America because he kept putting more troops directly on it.
    The bot then got South America, I slammed the other bots card blocks and pivoted to Australia and Africa while breaking bonuses every turn against the large bot. Only the American country bot to keep hitting my 30 stack guard in Africa, instead of that 5 guard in Asia. Like.. wha- it doesn't make sense. They waste all their troops to get rid of my 30 stack, left with nothing but I can't kill them because I'm getting stacked guarded by the larger bot who is card blocking and pressuring my borders. So I can't even spend troops getting rid of the America bot. (This was normal classic but with blizzards because their fun. Japan blizzard, Top right America blizzard, and one random one in Asia)
    Overall, I hate bots. I'm not even bad. I've beaten 5 hard bots. These were 5 medium bots. It's just bizarre! XD Maybe I am bad

    • @captianguldan9051
      @captianguldan9051 Před 5 měsíci

      I pivoted to Australia because Europe was too heavy stacked and Asia is too big to take. And I needed to remove one of his bonuses with the least amount of damage done to me.

    45:56 he could've won so easily there if he took him out of south America and put 20 troops where he was hitting in Europe pete would've been forced to hit his 245 cap for a card and or Manuel role a 20 with like 14 troops which would've failed and pete couldn't stop the card block bc he would get wayyyy less troops then blue and he was on 1 card
