Thumbs up to you and your dad . Hello Heidi nice to see you in video congrats to you coming a vet. Silage looks good 👍.
I always look out in the industry for inspirational farms/people. You’re high to the top Tom. We are struggling to make ends meet at our farm at the moment due to draughts and disease, times are hard, but watching your videos boost me up and get the hope still running well. Just got a gimble to start making videos too.
I would love once to make my older brother Gilles who’s hit by depression go out of the village and discover your farm Tom
Keep up the good work, it’s refreshing, promising and gives perspectives !

I've been watching Harry's Farm on CZcams (as well as Harry's Garage - check them out), but Harry farms arable in the Cotswolds so watching and comparing an arable farm to a dairy farm is fascinating. Another top quality video Tom 👌 Keep up the good work....
Another amazing video Tom 👌👍👍👍
Tom there is a problem with putting the black sheet on because you could get mould on in it.
Tom your dad makes the video and I know exactly what he was saying when he backed up to far when you unload that front wheel it's easy to slide back we cut rough hilly ground for hay and I hit a good gopher hole at 45 degrees maybe a little more that will make you pucker whe she starts sliding and the weight starts shifting to the low side great video
This is probably a stupid question, so forgive my lack of farming knowledge. Could you use a roller to roll the clamp, like you do when rolling the grass seed in?
Grand on Tom cheers
Fabulous silage video mate

Townie questions, sorry but love your videos and want to understand a bit more. What difference does the moisture content make on the finished silage? As you keep saying 3rd cut is much drier. What are the pros and cons of chopping verses not chopping the silage? Also what is the difference between clamp and big bales, apart from the shape? Thanks.
The main difference between chopping and big balls is the cutting. The chopper cuts the grass way finer then the baler or the wagon could ever do. There for it's better to compact in the clamp and to feed later on.
especially withe the feeder wagon he is using.
The bales often stick to gather in the wagon and won't mix properly with the rest of the ration.
And as you can see in the video, the grass is never the same on one field. In the clamp you do pretty much a sandwich so you get a very mixed silage with a bit of evry thing in it. But if you bale it you just got a couple of 100meters in it. Therefore it's very hard to mix a good ration because evry bale will be different.
(The best thing would be if the cow always get the 100% same ration so she doesn't have to adopt to the change. But that's just dreaming)
You need a but if moisture in the grass so the silage process can work properly if it's to dry there might be problems with that.
And also out of personal experiences, the cows prefer a bit wetter silage because it tastes better, of course just to a certain point😁
Hope I could help and that my English is understandable.
Cheers
Lukas Fesser brilliant English and thanks for explaining, I love to watch Tom, but often don't understand why things are done the way that they are. Thanks for taking the time to explain it is appreciated. Xx
Really great tractor driving music ! :)
Great vid
I understand that combines cut, thresh, sort and that's why they're so big. Why is the claas machine so big when it's only lifting the cut grass? Does it do other stuff to it?
