- Exploring this abandoned mausoleum which was erected in 1927 but never used due to The Great Depression of the 1930s shortly after. I ran into an elderly man who has lived in the area for a long time who kindly provided me with this information. In 2008, the front pillars were also used as a backdrop to the movie, Six Reasons Why.

If this is the one not far from Simcoe Ont I may have some more info re why it was never used. My Grandfather who was living in that area at the time said the real reason was not the lack of money to finish it, but the lack of money to FIX it. You may have noticed the areas where the coffins go look a bit on the small side, that's because they were built too small for modern caskets. The error wasn't discovered until the structure was nearly completed, by then the building was too far along to fix without starting over and therefor abandoned. My Grandfather died in 1976 and lived in the Simcoe area since before WW1 so I believe this to be accurate. I remember how he laughed about the stupidity of the "engineers" and what a scandal this cause in the municipality over the waste and expense. I have always wanted to see the inside of this place, thank you for giving me this opportunity.
Very interesting to know! Thank you for providing that information! :)
Yeah, I was thinking..."you can't fit a casket in there".
looks like it started out as a mausoleum and ended up as an old warehouse., Thanks for sharing it with us-!
I have driven by here a bazillion times and still do. I always glance at the place as it takes me back to parts of my child hood. Your video s the first I have seen the inside. THANKS for that.
True, they ran out of money, but wouldn't it be cool if someone bought it out, cleaned it up and offered tours (not much to see, I know) but what a waste. There was a story on this place on a local TV station a few years ago
I gotta hand it to you TikiTrex, your vids are the best... I like you have just narration without the usual crappy music or silly antics.
Keep up the good work!!!
Kanebruno .brunokane I appreciate your comment. Thank you.
looks like a place for zombies or vamps to hide in. I wouldn't have been able to go into those wings alone. Nice video and I appreciate the fact of your just exploring and not making stupid remarks or flashing the camera around like alot of ppl who explore. You get in, you show, you speak, you get out. I like that. That's what exploring is about.
Thanks, Sharon! I'm glad you like my work.
That stone work is beautiful!
I see the comment where someone said there were no bodies ever stored there. the repositories don't look large enough for caskets but in then there's the difference of time and location. In the US, many mausoleums now are used primarily for cremation urns.
I refer to those above ground burial vaults as "file cabinets." The birds sound like barn swallows. Glad they are able to nest here and find shelter.
Aww the birdies were so cute. They are wondering what in the heck you're doing there.
tiki, you and abandoned steve talk in a quite tone as if the owners are there.you both show respect as if you are a guest.i`d love to be able to see in person the homes.i can almost see the family there many yrs ago.
that was so sweet! thanks for the update, I feel like Im going through withdraws sometimes. lol
Ha Ha! I know exactly where this place is!! I can remember seeing this back in the early seventies. In fact, I just drove by here again back in the spring.
O boy, Talking about guts you have a strong one,to go to a place like that,? you are doing a fantastic job.
I like it being a home for the little swallows . . . It's interesting to me that so much junk gets stored in these old places . . . Obviously stuff not cared about . . .
That sign at 5:40 that was in the little room you walked in was worth a pretty penny
Great video, as usual. You are a brave woman. You search some scary and dangerous places alone.
Amazing find!
Hats off to you going into all these places by yourself. I wouldn't!
BTW no this place was never used as far as i was told i actually lived around the corner from this place.
Doesn't look like much stuff still in there worth smashing up :(
@ 5:11 birds evenly spaced, patiently waiting. thank you.
Your narration skills make you the best...keep up the good work
I appreciate your comment. Thanks.
Interesting to live in!!! Kind of Egyption/Art Deco looking
OMG i have passed this place all the time since i was 12 ( i am now 35) i have always wondered what it was like on the inside. Are you from this area cause if so i know a few more places that i can tell you about.
That is a pretty cool story to go with this video. While watching the video I wondered who would be dumb enough to move bodies after they had been buried. I guess you still call it buried even if they aren't underground. I have always heard it is a very bad thing to move a body after it has been interred.
You got a lotta guts lady.A lotta guts!!
That is so sad that someone spent so much money and cared so much for family to have this built and it is full or garbage.
Glad it was never used. I can imagine the inhabitants saying? Screw it! I'm outa here! The short shelfs are for boxes or urns of ashes. Got a couple of uncles on the shelf in a place like that! Too much Fun Tiki!
maybe this mausoleum was used...but the bodies were re-located & buried after the city zoning or whatever change in the town caused this building to no longer function as a mausoleum...
the 2 front glass doors are more modern design.. circa 80's era. They must have been installed later for better security
Neat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two thing lead me to believe it was never used..The interior of the building would have been "Veneered" for a lack of a better word with marble and the exterior with granite or another similar stone. .Also there are no crypt fronts even if they had been re-inturred there would have been at least one that was not used and I don't see any in the video footage.
Cool building.
You might start a revitalization project..If the crypts are too small for modern caskets make niches fir cremated remains. .it more economical and environmental viable any way!

tiki, you enter a home with respect.i admire that.some of the younger ppl,are laughing and making remarks.
+cindy stewart Thanks, Cindy.
Where i live there is one very close in design. i can't believe the community would let grow up like that.
I found myself laughing . What would you have done if there would have been a body!!!Love your videos the best
its one heck of a huge mausoleum... werent you scared to go in and find bodies in there.. ? wow.. i wouldnt go alone. but with some one.. you are one brave lady..the birds are soo cute.. and i bet its a good storage place .. if only they have stored something exciting..
Would make a cool house
Wow so many tires, maybe a crook took stolen cars there and stripped em for parts
How the f,,,, did I end up watching this!
Awesome find. Too bad it's going to ruin.
It appears to be a structure that was privately built. Maybe they were given a grant or government money, then skipped out on an unfinished project.
the depression, everything collapsed. people couldn t even afford to feed themselves.
Anyone find it interesting there are modern, glass and aluminum doors leading into the structure at the very beginning then at about 5:39 of the video? Doesn't that seem odd to install very expensive commercial doors for junk storage? I'll bet it was used, then abandoned at some point. Even the vintage of most of the junk only dates back 20 or 30 years.
That was my thought as well Saw a cement mixer in there my guess is storage for a business
Is this the one at Port Dover?
It looks like a Contractor might have purchased and is using it to store extra material I doubt it is abandoned,
The back entrance is smashed wide open to the elements and animals and is in a state of disrepair. As far as I can tell, throughout the years, it was just a place for junk storage, possibly by the cemetery or town. And it's abandoned as a mausoleum because it was never completed.
you make fine-Annual videos about all those abandoned houses and
buldings my question is why do people so clean homes and buldings behind
it must somewhere be a reason for it and so they leave a mess behind the houses so rotten you never asked why the people who used to live there in having
Never thought of selling those homes or renovate to rent for
I fin that outrageous of those people that leave rubbish and leave it rot fine houses are not for you to know that I call illegal fly-tipping
they would do the former dwelling place their rubbish clean up and sell their home or renovating or rent
I have been a lic real estate agent for 15+yrs. There are so many reasons why a house is left to ruins. "NIECERS" is correct but also people suffer endless losses (or gains!!) that lead to the apparent abandonment of a home. I can think of at least 10 diff homes that were "abandoned" by people I know, personally. It is also important to remember that just because a home is vacant or unkept does not mean it has been abandoned or that some tragedy has occurred. It is just as plausible that someone won the lottery or came into a very large sum of money or good fortune and has left to pursue a "better" lifestyle! More commonly, The home/property may be involved in a legal battle due to probate, divorce, defects in the home (or materials). taxes and government issues just to name a few.
Ok now try this at night lol
It's sad that they only use it for junk now. I wonder what they did with the bodies???
I guess people were not dying to get in there & as a result remained unused.. Problem i see with this design is the bodies would only be secure as long as the building was stable, once concrete started to crack and fall apart the remains would have to be buried, cremated or re sealed in new tombs.. To me no way i put my love one in that kind of a place.. Burying or cremating a loved one once is enough for me...
+Bert Skidmore See this is what i was talking about.. wpri.com/2014/11/06/abandoned-mausoleum-keeps-families-from-finding-closure/

It's in Southwestern Ontario in Canada.
