Historian and author Sean Posey takes us on a tour of what is left of one of the giant steel mills of the Valley, Youngstown Sheet and Tube in Campbell, Ohio.
My family and my wife's family all worked for YS&T. Electric Weld, Campbell Works, and Brier Hill Works. I was working at the Brier Hill Works in 1969 when I was drafted. I came back in 1973 after I was discharged. When the future of the steel industry became clear, I reentered the Army and never looked back.
You forgot Irish...my great grandfather came from Ireland, worked YST until he saved enough money to bring my Great Grandmother and the children to Ytown.
Now I can swim in the clean mahoning river. The air is nice and clean in youngstown.Today, their is still over 4000 steel jobs in the youngstown area. Its had to believe thousands of homes are still empty. The area could still be used for industry.
