    3:50 Yes, that's the only thing about tours. Strict time limits so you cannot really enjoy the full experience of the destination. On one tour, we were taken to Harajuku and of course, you have to browse Takeshita Street. We got off the bus and was told we had 40 minutes. We only got halfway down the street and had to turn back. Managed to get a crepe and ate it while walking back (bad manners in Japan).

So sorry that Amanda didn't feel to good, hopefully she recovered and enjoyed the rest of her vocation. Thank you guys for sharing your vocation. One day I will make it to Japan for a vocation, lol.

  • @paulafriedmanalohafrommaryland

    Aloha Amanda & Felix. I would have been upset on a rushed tour like that, it reminds me of how the excursions are on cruise ships. I wouldn't be surprised if the rushing tour and trying to eat foods quickly and being on a bus contributed to Amanda not feeling well. I'm really sorry that you had to experience this, but hopefully the rest of your vacation was at an easier pace. Otherwise, I'm enjoying watching your Japan videos.

    Oh damn. Sorry that Amanda got sick. Years ago when I was traveling to Chiangmai Thailand, I caught a horrible case of food poisoning and I was sick to my stomach for days. I hope it didn’t completely ruin this part of your trip. And good advice Felix on the tours. I don’t do them anymore 9 times out of 10, because they are so rushed with little to no free time.

    Aw..hope Amanda felt better the next day. Did you bring her anything when you went back to the hote? Funny how Hokkaido seems to be famous for a lot of stuff, milk, ice cream, seafood. You probably could spend a week there and still want to try more things. Hate those bus tour things. You never have enough time to explore. But I guess it's a good way to see places and go back on your own if you really like the place. Love how you give us a glimpse as to where you will be going next.

    So sorry Amanda missed out on the ʻono-looking gyōza and karaage. Hope she was able to recover quickly. Iʻve traveled all over Japan, but only on two tours - one with my university to the Kansai region, and one local "Hato Bus Tour" when a Japanese classmate asked if some of us Americans wanted to see Tōkyo, where we lived. We were expecting him to take us around, but he booked us on the bus tour for Japanese people visiting Tōkyo, and it was a waste of money because we could have gone to all those places on our own, on our own time, as you usually do. And the tour guide only spoke Japanese, so most of my friends couldnʻt understand her. I remember the 20-minute stops to visit famous sites, and a 10-minute break to go to the restrooms (for about 60 people on the bus). Japanese tourists are used to these quick, rushed tours without much substance when they come to Hawaiʻi because they do it all the time in Japan. I know some Japanese people who couldnʻt even remember which islands they visited. The only kind of tour in Japan I would recommend for people who are used to traveling on their own is a specialty tour like picking (and cooking and eating) mushrooms or fruit in the areas where they are known for growing.
    Oh, and I remember seeing Shirogane Ike in winter (when it was white) and getting lots of photos of the swans that come there.😋

    • @AmandaFelixEats
      @AmandaFelixEats  Před rokem

      Sounds like any tour would be a bad idea 😣 Mahalo for sharing your experience! 🤙

    Feel for Amanda. Structured bus tours are the worst. We would rather freelance than do that cattle rides that make you carsick, stuffed or hungry until you are sick depending on the style, and being ruined by early afternoon. Pick your destination, find the best manner to get there. We have used city busses, trains (great), light rail, cabs, shared cabs which has worked out surprisingly well water cabs (great) Sydney and Victoria ,or walked (often the worst option in cities like Seattle, LA, NY, SF).

    • @mechcam796
      @mechcam796 Před rokem

      It was our first and quite possibly our last 😆 lol We usually opt to go on our own but this would've been too hard (and expensive) on our own so at least we saved money and time by doing the tour😅

    Feel sorry for Amanda(hope she feels better). I personally hate going on tours, everything is rush, rush, no time to soak it all in. For Japan, I would rather go with people who can speak & read the language, then maybe rent a car. In the US, I will always rent a car(rather than going on a tour). This way, you can take your time & really enjoy the sights. One more thing, Felix cracks me up with his "Here's the farm, seeya at the next stop". Sooo Funny!

    I hate tours where they rush you.. you can’t enjoy yourself always afraid the bus is going to leave you . And once you drive forever you have 10-15 minutes to sightsee.. next time hire a private driver to take you around to the sights. I hope Amanda is feeling much better. Take care and be safe

    I'm sorry Amanda got sick. ❤‍🩹 That happened to me when I was in Australia and visiting a Mauritius restaurant, and I couldn't enjoy the food very much at all, which was a shame (because how often do you eat Mauritius food??). Also, I never take tours anymore because they're always too rushed for me. It's great having someone else driving, but not worth it for me because I like to take my time and see places in depth. Still, sometimes it's necessary, but thanks for letting us know that particular shuttle bus wasn't worth it! Finally, I'm so craving gyoza and fried chicken, but I'm not going to try to eat any in Hawaii because I know it won't be as amazing as what I saw you eat in Japan! *LOL* 😆

  • @veo16

    You guys got tricked. This tour might be good in season, but they took your
    money and brought you to still-blooming and post-bloom spots. Waste of a day sadly 😅
