    As a Frenchman, I much prefer this Parliament to my own. The Assemblée Nationale is boring, and the atmosphere is much less cheerful. I think that the “zoo” side gives life to democracy, and shows that the debate is real!

      It's good though, because whoever is scheduled to speak, or even interrupts gets a microphone turned on, so that it's fair. It works just as if there were no microphones, and no one gets special treatment. It's just really for the media.

      @@davidarnold9324 Honestly I get the impression that our (American) politicians are more in the business of looking cool and making good slogans/comebacks, democrat and republican alike. I'm sure this is true for politicians everywhere (as elections tend to be superficial) but the members of the House of Commons seem to be a little more interested in actual policy-making than in sniping at one another. I could go on for hours about how tired I am of the tribal divides in America, suffice it to say that it's refreshing to see a legislative body that thinks beyond party lines and re-elections.

    I think the whole "order" part is quite ironic since the British parliament looks to be the most disorderly and messy parliament I've ever seen. Just look at all the papers lying around and all the people standing by the entrance like they came late to a meeting and the organizer booked a room too small.

      The Scottish Nationalists, who are a minority party in Parliament demanded a vote without going through the proper procedures. When the speaker said they could have it at the end of questions to the prime minister that still wasn't good enough for them and the continued to interrupt The speaker asked their leader to leave and they all left.

    after reviewing several times, Bercow did make a mistake. he actually offered a choice to Blackburn, which he then stated what he would prefer. after stating that, the chair decided otherwise. fishy

I consider myself British and so did most of the Scots/Irish/English and Welsh I served with in the British Army. That was my whole point. You can be British and Scottish at the same time. 🙂

      In Germany, the President of the Bundestag (equivalent to the speaker) can use a bell if he/she wants to call to order. You can get up to three calls of order, after the third call you are being thrown out. In addition, there is also the option of turning off the microphone.

      Michael 67 I do believe more of us think like I do, but we get abused and shouted down for our critical and balanced opinions, so many are scared to express what they really feel.
      For example, some English nationalist wrote to me that I am a treacherous "half breed" (I'm mixed race obvs) for sympathising with the SNP!
      If we treated you all as our equals, this independence motion wouldn't need to resurface. I stand by you all whichever path you choose, as your compatriot :)

    1:52 Either I need a remedial course of English or Bercow actually gave the SNP a chance to vote at that moment or at the end, (the Scottish MP indicated his preference for the vote to be held at the moment) and little afterwards he turned the offer into a mandate (to vote at the end) with his signature "that's the end of the matter".

      1- "They shouldn't have been there to begin with... because Scottish voters are grossly over-represented in Westminster."
      Well, that's an argument for independence, then.
      If Scottish voters don't have any control over fundamental matters in the UK...not even when they're grossly over-represented in Westminster... independence is a no brainer.
      2- "They shouldn't have been there to begin with... because Scotland should be independent by now."
      Well, that's for the Scots to decide.
      Either way, it's up to the Scottish people to decide.

      No it won't be better off. I'm not going to tell that England hasn't done any against Scotland in past sure. Because everyone that knows history knows how England was with Scotland but still the Act of Union of 1707 was the greatest thing to ever happen to this island it turned two small country into a world superpower. You moan that Scotland is being treated unfairly. It is treated the same way Westminster treats the North of England and of Wales and Northern Ireland. I hate Westminster too I don't want independence and if you think the vote of Brexit was unfair. Well it was wrong and should never happened but it wasn't unfair. It's that there are more people in England than in Scotland what the alternative they give a Scottish voter more of say than a English voter than that not fair the English isn't it? Scotland would lose so much just due to some childish hate.
