I haven't discussed it prior, but I'm a big fan of Batman and his mythos - especially the villains.
Long have I heard the debate for who is Batman's darkest, and most cruel villain in all of his iconic rouges gallery, and I believe I have finally found him.
Who is it? watch the video to see! Here's a hint: I hope you enjoyed the Batman Arkham Games (you should play them, anyways. They're amazing!)
I had a blast making this video. Special thanks to Chrysanthemiasma!!! He was the lovely voice you heard in the interview. Check out his art, its so good!!!

What’s even better is how you can tell he knows exactly how the toxin works. Cause he doesn’t say anything about the specifics of what happened to Barbora after she “shoots” herself. But when Batman yells her name, he starts speaking about her.
(He also technically manipulated Batman into seeing Barbora, cause at first he shows Barbora in the video, so that later on Batman will see Barbora once he enters and gets doused in toxin)

I didn't really like what they did with Scarecrow in the end. He was screaming in fear and then got knocked out by Gordon. That was no worthy ending for such a great villain. But Scarecrow was great through the whole game. One of my favorite scenes are the introduction of his comeback in AK. "This demonstration used just 5 ounces of my latest toxin. Tomorrow, this will seem like child’s play. Gotham, this is your only warning." Or his analyzation of how Batman is kind of different because he nearly killed the guards of the militia.

He has nothing. Now, he has nothing to live for. And THAT is the most terrifying reality of all.

He's my favorite Batman villain and he's pretty underrated (But definitely getting more recognition as he should), but he's an odd case. Despite being an amazing villain, he's insanely inconsistent (probably the most inconsistent Batman villain) both design and writing wise. Crane can literally go from being some pathetic lackey for a main villian to just BEING the main villain and damn Arkham Knight did him so well. The New Batman Adventures also did Scarecrow so well and easily gave one of if not the best design for Scarecrow. I just hope for once, he can have a definitive version and glow up like Mr. Freeze for example. Also im praying he will be the main villain in The Batman sequel, he desperately needs creative and great writers. 20:02 also I hate how NOBODY mentions Scarecrow’s backstory.
Scarecrow’s reason for his obsession with fear started as a combination of wanting to cure himself, grief, and a wish for revenge.
Jonathan Crane lost his entire family as a child because of a traumatic incident. Then again as an adult because he froze during another traumatic incident.
Both times, he blamed himself. And as an adult he was actually blamed by people who are supposed to not really do so.

When seeing large numbers, it's a good idea to think for a moment to break down the "tyranny of numbers" as it's called into what it really means. You got everyone from toddlers to the elderly in that. Considering also how likely the gas would impact those with less bodily mass to go around more severely, thus resulting in a larger dosage, it would be especially deadly to babies, children, and anyone not yet in the size category of an adult. Which, even if it would hit all 121milion people there, is an extra layer of incredible dark. Also, consider this is the future generations in question, the long term consequences of such a massive loss of young life would be devastating. Not to mention all the other ones. So yea...yikes! Crane really went off the deep end here.

@@WhyTho525dude studied the bat to an autistic degree, and considering how close scarecrow was operating to joker during the events of City, it wouldn't be out of the question that he either found out or was directly told about the joker blood. I also wouldn't doubt scarecrow wouldn't suspect something linking the dissapearences of the other joker blood recipients (we know Henry's was newsworthy, the others likely were as well) could give hints that Batman has some fear of _something_ happening because of the blood, and with that it would make sense that the presence of joker's blood combined with batman's morals would have batman innately fear becoming joker. Plus you have the intelligence and personal details Jason would've told scarecrow as well...
Quite a few logical leaps would need to be taken, but it's still a comic book universe where you have a billionaire who dresses up as a bat wearing state of the art armor to beat the shit out of anybody who does anything beyond jaywalking at night.

To be fair, most of Batman's villains, especially the best ones, are all great reflections of him as a character. His greatest rivals are all the biggest examples, Riddler is a reflection of his detective skills, Penguin is a character who's so unbelievably powerful because of his wealth and status just like Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Bane is a man nearly unbeatable for other humans in a 1 on 1 fight like batman, Two Face is a reflection on Batman's split personality, and obviously Scarecrow uses Fear against his opponents, hence why they're the best 5 villains outside of Joker.
Even other villains who you wouldn't expect much from, they even have this, like Croc is the embodiment of a terrifying unstoppable force for his opponents all rooted from an incident at a young age out of his control (if you consider a disease an incident), Clayface reflects Batman's mysterious identity, Freeze with his isolation via loss and having to live in extreme cold, which would be fatal to others, but it's the only way for him to exist (for batman it's mental cold and not the physical cold), hell even similar metaphors like Ivy with her obsession driving her sense of justice and morality, and Mad Hatter with his obsession linked with his persona and technology. It's why Batman's rogues gallery is so unbelievably good.

Great video, you really say all the good points of why Scarecrow is such a good villain. And while some people say they prefer the Asylum version because it shows more the comic Scarecrow, a mad scientist who does experiments. I think the Knight Scarecrow is much better and terrifying.
Having a guy with fear toxin laughing hysterically all the time and being kinda crazy isn't as threatening as a guy with fear toxin that knows what to do and looks at his plan on a bigger scale.
I always thought that villain wise, Scarecrow was always above Joker by a LOT for me. I like Joker, but he is too much on the "I'm crazy and energetic" side for me, I think those who speak very softly, like Knight Scarecrow, are scary.
The sad thing is that outside of Knight, he was never really well done, always a background character, even in Knight unfortunately to an extent. And I really which for a good Scarecrow character.
Because for now, while I love Scarecrow as a villain, my pick for best character is Harley Quinn. But if we get one like Knight, and if he is the main threat during all the thing for once. He could be my top in both.

While I agree that the concept of a person who can stab you in the back at any random moment is creepy, I still like calculating villain, like Knight's Scarecrow, a lot more. And I know that Joker still calculates some things, but most of the time he has a point A and a point B but goes with the flow in order to go to the other point. And I also feel like nowadays we see a lot more of "crazy" villains than calculating ones so it might also just be that I'm bored of them

I know a lot of people think the New Batman Adventures one is his best but holy hell to me the Knight one is better. From the dead grey eyes, his face with chunks missing and how it looks almost like the material for a scarecrow head is sown into him, to the needles that glow when he’s injecting with his toxin. Even down to small things like the brace he has on his leg I feel like it’s taken straight out of a nightmare. To me this is Scarecrow’s design and nothing can rly top it at least to me. Hopefully future Batman projects that use Scarecrow will take elements of this design.

It’s a bit of a stretch but given enough time since Earth kinda recycles a lot of water in its endless cycle, eventually 15 US States and 121M people would be a joke by the time the whole world has fallen to their fears

Before Arkham Knight, I feel like the Scarecrow has gotten a bad deal as far as adaptations. In the comics, his physical strength was never going to match his intelligence in the way Batman's does, but he's capable of so much destruction. The Nolanverse Scarecrow had potential but then got sidelined in favor of the Joker and then might as well have not been in Dark Knight Rises (even though I loved the line, 'sold to the man in the cold sweat'). For a long time, The Animated Series was the best adapted depiction and not only had some fun designs but excellent voice actors in Henry Polic II (RIP) and Jeffrey Combs.
This entry in the video games really shows just how dangerous the Scarecrow is, just how damaged, sadistic and smart he is. I admit John Noble wouldn't have come to mind as his voice, but despite his deep voice, he really brings the intelligence to the character.

Scarecrow was the one who killed both The Batman, and Bruce Wayne. it didn’t matter if Krane and Scarecrow was killed mentally he still won in the end. For Bruce, the game was rigged from the start, and Krane was the orchestrator of said game. Also he’s voiced by Saren Arterius from Mass Effect 1, which as a mass effect fan, and a fan of the rocksteady trilogy, made him way more unnerving, as does his gruesomely torn apart face, also gruesomely covered by a fetid mask. Scarecrow killed The Batman, causing Bruce to seemingly kill himself, however Scarecrow was the one who killed Batman’s identity, his entire personality, molding it into a much darker version of himself, one physically and mentally deformed like Krane was, and one that especially uses the minds of others to kill them.

8:47 This part gave me chills the music is so ominous like Scarecrow himself and goes to show the lengths that Scarecrow will go to instill fear in not only Gotham but The World

Unlike pain, fear is not something that can be nullified with repeated exposure, fear is a fundamental part of any living thing.

Fun fact but the musci thst plays during the last few seconds of the origins section of this video comes from the scene of 28 days alter where Jim reminisces over his videos of him and his parents together before getting attacked by infected. Jim in this film is played by Cillian Murphy who plays Scarecrow in the nolanverse Batman films.
