  • An elaborate coronation ceremony was held Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Thailand as the country crowned its new king, the first monarch it has seen in nearly seven decades.
    King Maha Vajiralongkorn was officially crowned as a "divine monarch" after completing intricate Buddhist and Brahmin rituals and said in a speech that he would "reign with righteousness."
    He was joined by new Queen Suthida after a surprise announcement three days before the coronation that he had married a fourth time.

    Even though the king is not that respected amongst Thai people (he's a complete joke compared to his father before him), this is still a great once in a lifetime ceremony. It's great to see the ancient culture being preserved and brought back to life. There will be another ceremony soon in October, which the king will make a traditional trip on the Royal Barge along with other members of the Royal Family (each on a different barge). The tradition is shared in a few Southeast Asian countries and it has been passed down for 600 years. It will be another great spectacle.

      Give him a chance to cement his own legacy before you call him a joke. It's honestly not his fault that his father overshadowed him for most of his life. He still will be a better man than idiots like Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.

    • @randomcurrypuff6237
      @randomcurrypuff6237 Před 5 lety +12

      I'm sure he's better than those idiots. It's just the fact that he's been a king for almost 4 years before his coronation and he still had no evident work. I know it's no longer for modern monarchs to serve the nation but a lot of Thai people expect him to do more than just continuation of his father's projects. He's quite unfaithful, the queen is his 4th wife. I'm sure his 3 previous wives were wonderful women and I just can't understand why he rejected them. A king should be an example for his subjects, and look what he's done. I mean, he should act more mature and appropriate because he's no longer a crown prince. I'm not saying he's all bad, I did like the bike events he held over the years, it really did bring the people closer to the monarchy. I wish he would do something like that more, not just chilling in Germany. Only time will tell.

    It seems Thai Royals preserve traditional religious ceremony and that is really good. Japanese imperials had to give up most of religious part of the coronation ceremony as national ceremony because of the principle of separation of politics and religion.
    Very traditional and religious one called Daijoh-Sai still exists and will be held this autumn along with national ceremony called Sokuirei but treated as very secret and private ceremony.

The ceremony is a mix between Buddhist and Brahman-Hindu cultural practices, which was so widely spread throughout the region that it became a common cultural legacy. For centuries, the Thais have preserved, developed, and refined it to become a Thai cultural practice which make it different from those of other culture. In the Thai court, the Brahman priests play quite a major role in this kind of ceremony.
      If you think the Javaka have it, are they still practicing it nowadays? Because you people did not preserve it, it has become extinct. Don't blame other people for it. Just blame yourself.

      Sad that Some people (Mostly the so-called "New Generation") have turn to Republicanism and radical Socialism (and a few to Communism) because They think It will make them become "True Democracy" and make they life more "Convenient" (They wish a Universal state welfare)

    • @adt548
      @adt548 Před 5 lety +3

      Thailand is Constitutional Monarchy, meaning the King doesn't have the real power to govern. The King is only a symbol a head of state, a unifier for Thai people and Thailand. The real governance is from Thai Prime Minister who get elected which is a democracy. So Thailand is a democratic country

    • @adt548
      @adt548 Před 5 lety

      No King or Queen in this world hold absolute power... All powers have been given to Prime Minister who get elected thus all are democracy

    • @golf_supa
      @golf_supa Před 5 lety

      Those people have claimed that the monarchy is "meddling with the election" or simply "inferior for democracy" and, they think having a president will eliminate those problems. What an idea…
