The apples are a part of "Haft seen table "
People set Haft seen table in Norouz (Iranian new year) There is long story behind it in iranian history and culture

    @Mace Around The World
Here is my best try to translate this poem. Pardon my lack of English and literature knowledge.
O cameleer, O caravan, where to are you taking my Leila (beloved)?
For you will be tormenting my soul and my heart by doing so.
    -----------------------
O cameleer, why are you going?
For what are you taking away my Leila (beloved)? [This is the chorus of the song]
    -----------------------
    God was the only witness when we were swearing the oath to each other;
This love will live as long as this world will.
    ----------------------
O cameleer, why are you going?
For what are you taking away my Leila (beloved)?
    -----------------------
The entirety of my religion/belief grew to be the flare of the love that became my entire life
Shedding a teardrop when remembering (thinking of) the beloved one is pleasant [Sketchy translation here, sorry]
So is life in the warmth of love
    ----------------------
O God, may it always be that the passion of hearts to each other becomes like our hearts
Such that the Leily & Majnoon [the legendary love couple] becomes a myth [I think the poet means because our love will be a real, ongoing one, not sure though!]
    and our tale becomes immortal
    ---------------------
Not reading my sorrow in my eyes,
and unaware of what I'm going through because of this anguish,
you are now escaping from [avoiding] my love [to you]
    --------------------
Witness the death of my heart before you leave
for I swear to god that I will not endure after you
[So] like a cruel storm ravaging the blossoms of a tree branch
end my existence before you leave
for I will be that lonely tree caught in a hurricane
and all it's existence branches are broken by the wrath of nature
    ----------------
O cameleer, O caravan, where to are you taking my Leila (beloved)?
For you will be tormenting my soul and my heart by doing so.

those apples that you mentioned are probably the oldest tradition of irab called "Nowrouz". it's new year celebration in iran (we don't celebrate Christmas). we have "Haft Sin" in nowrouz which means "Seven S". we put seven things that start with s in persian together and "Sib" or apple is one of them. each of them is a symbol and apple is symbol of healthiness.

It's a fifty-year-old song by one of the greatest Persian composers, Homayoun Khorram, originally sung by Kouros Sarhangzadeh: czcams.com/video/eGPt1D35UXc/video.html
Namjoo's intimate rendition of the song revived it, and now this is the version the younger generations know: czcams.com/video/Z9q_CKXVIVw/video.html

The E in SeTar is pronounced like how you say Egg or Red. It's not Seatar. Actually SiTar is another instrument itself. All of them including GuiTar are derived from the old Persian instrument Tar. Listen to Keyvan Saket, Flight of the Bumblebee for Tar

The apple, hyacinth, the spruts and the other 4 stuff are a part of our norooz arrengment called 7 sin(7 s, since in farsi they all smart with s) on a tableclothes. It's not a quality recording. Hi Mace, Here is another great Persian singer, Shahrokh, who you might want to make reaction to. Of course like Googoosh, Hayedeh, and the rest of the pack, there 70's era work was so much better. I will include 2 links for you to look over. 1st. Ne-me-sheh, 2nd. Has-kahr-dam. I think your Persian audiences would appreciate it. Nemishe (It can't be) - Haz Kardam ( I deeply enjoyed it).
