Wow! Regardless of what happens down the season, it's incredible that Gabby has competed again after 7+ years! Especially knowing that she's going to be compared to her Olympic best. I can't imagine the immense pressure, nerves and more that she must have been feeling. The fact she was able to get through today was amazing! I hope she sticks with it past this year if she's enjoying it! And yes, while a few weeks until next competition isn't much time, a few weeks can certainly help as far as getting used to using competitive landing surfaces. Hopefully today helped her mentally too, knowing she has the 1st competition back out of the way.
She had to pull hard on that dismount. This meet was not her best, but that dismount shows that she has a lot of fight in her. She just needs a lot more numbers.

Comparing her to the girls at WinterCup she’s looking good- but definitely needs way more work! Suni is also doing a dbl pike and still hasn’t attempted it yet in competition so I’m glad Gabby did and pulled it off!

Honestly, it’s hard to read Gabby’s face at any meets. Her performance is okay for an 8 year hiatus. I’m rooting for her to work hard for the next meet in May!
I think her strongest event is bars. She really did good DTY vault and her bars, eventough not ready yet, we can see that see plan to do 6.4. I think she capable getting 8.4+ in execution. With huge execution( she just dont have that much stamina in this meet).
Agreed on the 2 months concern, especially with there being 3 meets (5 days of competition if you go to Trials) jammed in, plus the pressure and need to add several points to her AA score. Vault and beam seem to come back quickest to most elites.

Gabby Douglas was just a little nervous Today on her return to Gymnastic. This event is merely a good warm up for Gabby Douglas. She'll be just fine at her next competition in May of 2024.
I dont see her making good score on beam, but i think her vault and bars will improve a lot. She need to get 14.8 plus on bar consistently to make her case. Which i think she really capable. She dont have enough stamina in this meet. Her bar and vault combination is her best chance.

On bars she didn’t have the endurance, there is no way she would have finished a full bars routine she simply couldn’t. She should had gone with an easy bars, like 4.000 D-score, and with an 8.000 Execution she would have qualified at nationals giving her more time to prepare. Now she must get 51.000 points in US classics otherwise she can’t compete AA on nationals which means she won’t be able to go on trials. So now she has even more stress, lol, and only two weeks left.
She's close to being really, really good on vault, bars, and beam. Floor is kinda a disaster, but with Simone and Jade, Team USA doesn't really need another top tier floor score. Shilese's floor is serviceable.
She's nowhere near what you said based in this meet. The problem is now she needs to have excellent performances in three meets in a row with zero falls to prove readiness.

Her beam looked good and as I have been saying a while now, she needs only to put up great scores on bars and beam, have a decent DTY and produce mid 13 score on floor, all of which she is very capable of, and she is set. Suni at her best is only second to Simone. Whether she can get back to that level is what we will have to wait to see. Same with Gabby.

Yes Suni did very well this competition but keep in mind she presented an FTY and that dismount off beam isn’t giving anything right now. Who’s to say how Gabby will look by core classics? As she’s proven in the past she can hit when it really matters .. she just needs to channel that in and add more repetition. If anything Gabby can be a top contender in the AA .. No one knows what Suni’s AA program is looking like because she’s yet to actually compete in the AA since Tokyo.

After 8 years away, to miss the nationals AA score by .35 with some errors and nerves...I am definitely impressed! Gabby's a fighter and known for improving tons in short periods.

I know some retired gymnasts have started messing around in the gym for fun just to realize they miss the sport so they start training seriously again. Agreed. She's an icon, but her time is up now. She made 2 Olympic teams and was amazing in both. But it is really really evident from this competition that she's nowhere even close to being ready.

Why do you only blame the coaches? She’s 28, not a child, and this is 2024 when everyone has a cellphone with camera to record herself, not the ‘80s when nobody had a video camera. Not to mention that she can obviously also read the damn point of points. Is the coach to be blamed? Yes, as much as she is.
Gabby has her full beautiful adult body now, and can still move well. It’s gonna take a lot, but it can be done. Because I remember when only tiny teenagers with undeveloped bodies were the main competitors, but I don’t see anything wrong with pushing the age & full womanly body envelope!😂❤❤❤
Unfortunately, being a former Olympic AA champion doesn't guarantee one a spot on the team competing in Paris. Even Simone has to show she's ready. Despite her amazing comeback, there are other more consistent athletes that can jump into the lineup last minute and be counted on to score higher than Douglas, simply by virtue of their higher start value, performed with less deductions.

This is a different smaller competition. The Core Hydration Classic is later this year.
