    Just found your channel and subbed.
    This video was a life saver. I was bewildered by all the Fairlight meters. I'm currently edditing an audiobook of my children's book that I hired a narrator for. I'm adding music to the start of each chapter file so not much editing to do. However the music files are way louder than the narration files so I have to raise the narration and lower the audio a bit to match the loudness.
    But I don't want to just do it by ear or eyeball the wave track.
    I also have about 50 chapter files and I want to ensure they are all consistent in loudness but not confident to do so by ear. So learning the meters and understanding db and loudness is essential.
    I'll watch this video a few more times so it sinks in while I practice.
    Can you point me to any more of your videos that give guidance on the meters and loudness. All the chapter files I'm editing will be distinct and separate projects and not in the same time line so I need to be able to know what the numbers on the meters mean so I can note them down and make sure each file has a similar loudness.

    Hi Jay great video! I have a question: I've added an audio echo effect on an additional track to the end of a short clip so it 'echoes, I can hear and see it in the Fairlight mode, when I switch back to Edit I cannot hear it..even though the audio track has the 'FX' indicator on it. Also not there after exporting. Any suggestions?

    Thank you, Jay. I had no idea which meter to look at or what they were for. So, I just picked one and made sure it didn't go into the red. 😆

    Really interesting, and a shed load of information for my little brain to try and understand. 😀
    What I'd really love to learn is how to do the things that I can do on the Edit Page, such as create little markers on the waveform to allow me to pull down the volume of a music track, in a specific location, to allow the narration to be heard better.
    When I'm in the Edit Page, I use the Cross Fade options, next to the Tool Box options to fade in or out either -0 decibels or -3 decibels. I use the -3 decibels to straddle two audio tracks, next to each other so that they flow more gently without harsh sounds or pops to distract the viewer. I'm sure there is a way in Fairlight but I don't have a Scooby how to do this, so I spend most of my life editing audio in the Edit Page and not the more comprehensive Fairlight Page. I think the word "Comprehensive" is an understatement because the page looks so complex and not really inviting to "non-audio trained" people.
    Any tutorials on how to do the basics on the Fairlight Page would be great. I did try to follow along with your previous BUS tutorials but they were aimed way above my skill level and general needs. With most of my projects I have a narration track, an ambient sound track and a music track to mix. My needs really are that simple.

    And, here's a random question, possibly for a future video idea? Let's say I have two dialogue tracks, one for each animated character, and they're standing a couple feet from each other. This is all AI text-to-speech, so there's no directionality in the original recordings. Should I try to play with the stereo mix to add a bit of "reality", or is there a better way to replicate the feel of what that would sound like if it were actual actors in an actual room? I plan to add reverb and lots of sound design, of course, but feel like the dialogue sounds flat (or flatter than it should, even given it's tts). I realize that's probably not a simple question, so don't feel obligated. 😇

      @JayLippman  Pƙed rokem

      Funny enough I was watching a video today that mentioned that. The short answer is that at most you want to pan SLIGHTLY to the left or right, but for the most part you want your dialogue front and center on a mono track.
