Sammy and Dora Barnett are now engaged, so Molly, Rosie, and Dora go furniture shopping. Due to Molly's own personal tastes, Dora begins to feel overpowered by Molly's decisions on how to furnish her future home. Sammy has been offered an engineering job in Haverville, which he turns down as being too close to Molly. Sammy has also been offered a job in New York City. His future mother-in-law Carrie wants the future newlyweds to live in an apartment building two blocks away and also have them over for dinner at least four nights a week. Sammy then turns down the New York offer as being too close to his future mother-in-law. Sammy has also been offered a job in the Belgian Congo in Africa for three years, which he has already turned down. However, before he gets to inform Dora that he has turned down that offer, Dora becomes upset and defiantly states she will not go live in the Congo. The two young lovers have their first big fight, but Dora then realizes that she will travel to the ends of the earth to be with Sammy. In the end, Sammy accepts a job offer in Oklahoma to be close enough to visit his family by airplane, but far enough away from all their in-laws.

I remember watching the Goldbergs growing up. Gertrude Berg was a treasure and a talented writer.

I don't think Molly would have been so bombastic and insistent regarding her decorating ideas when she lived back in the Bronx. It's almost as if the suburbs are threatening to turn her into a Karen.
