Hi Dave ,nice decision to give it to your good friend bob ,the goldtop have a chance to have love and care ! thanks for your video ,take care and be safe .
Good call Dave, and very well deserved Bob! I think there's a valuable lesson in this one about how much better it is to visit your local shop to try before you buy... where possible... so pretty much nowhere! 😒
I agree! I was very fortunate with the last guitar purchase I made. I was originally looking for a traditional, hard core Telecaster, when I discovered a limited edition custom Telecaster FMT HH. Bought it sight unseen. I was very NOT disappointed! I extremely love this guitar. My Ibanez is very lonely now.
I think Dave would make a one-string broomstick guitar sound good... you can't hold talent down. I have a couple of Vintage LP's... they can sound good and are well made. They do sometimes need setting up though. Rediculous amount of guitar for the money. Easily on a par with an Epi... and or even some Gibbo's
What a wonderful gesture and kind way to pay back a friend. I hope that Bob cherishes the guitar, falls in love with it and makes it sing. Loved your solo as always but that stretch at 9:56, awesome.
Definitely I would watch many times to learn some of those cool licks. Also, love the black background for the amps and the wall of heroes. Thanks for your videos Dave!
What a great thank you gift to you Bob, from Dave. This is a special moment in time. Dave you played an amazing “last good-Bye” on the gold top. It’s more then the beautiful music, it is the spirit of the people involved. We as listeners are fortunate to witness this. Thanks mate. 👏👏👏
I put you on when I'm going to sleep and its the best way to go to sleep for sure with an airpod in my ear and my face melting off from your hour long shred sessions. You're awesome mate keep it up 🤘
Congratulations Bob That's pretty Kewl of you David Looks used for sure I never understood relicking a guitar I want a new one to look new Old to look old but each to there own TFS Enjoyed!
Totally agree about the relic fad . . . what's the point of buying a guitar that looks like you've been on the road with it for years unless you can really play in ways which make that sound even half-way feasible? And if you CAN play like that, you've probably relic'd your own guitar anyway in your own personal ways rather than with the effects they get with their stencils, hammers and scrapers. Even worse - I've often seen relic effects which have then been glossed-over with the final finish!!!
Reminds me of Richard Thompson's "small town romance"- old flames with bad memories...Ooh ya got to get away.... And Bob will enjoy it , and you won't have to see it again;)
Just move on Dave and let it fade into distant memory. We have all been there and done that in not loving things we have acquired but the world is full of diversity and someone can love it. If not Bob he will find someone else. As played and set up by Dave Simpson makes it very valuable of course !
Such a great thing to do Dave.... The universe will reward you im sure Bro! You appear to have more affinity with strats IMHO.... Stay strong and keep safe 😊🎸🎶
Bob is a legand and does deserve such a nice guitar. It is a very nice guitar, but when Dave plays it, he looks like he's on a date with someone he doesn't want to be with. You are always the generous gentleman Dave.
Wonderful, great solution, whoever Bob is, I'm happy for him. I just wanted to ask, whats the deal with the heel of the vintage guitars? I haven't try one but the joint tenent basically in all models seems out of place, seems to start very early, don't you think?
Think you did the right thing Dave. Just watching you play, you dont look as comfortable as you usually do, still a nice slice of 6 string playing but you are not at home with that one. Have a good weekend. Thanks tunes to make the weekend a little better :)
Glorious playing Dave!☺ I could tell you were just going through the motions playing this guitar...😮 No bonding at all! Sure Bob and guitar will journey on... Still curious about the unboxing video perhaps an extra weekend showing? I have a Vintage LP V100 and a V6 Strat about 11 years old still my goto guitars love to see how the gold top arrived!😮
I’m in love with my gold top pre Wilko not v100 but every one else on CZcams or the internet says it’s crap because it has a bolt on neck even though they have never seen one or played one the chosen ones have spoken ....yours looks great I have a v100 I do like it but a bit to chunky..well done Dave let it go
I had a Jackson flying V that I bought from a friend. Two months into owning and playing it every day I had come to hate that guitar. I was happy to have another friend offer to buy it. "He loves it." Thanks for the video Dave. I love listening to you play guitar.🎸🎶🍕🍺🤙
Know exactly what you mean. Had many guitars over the years that just didnt seem to fit my playing style or I simply couldn't warm to. Two that come to mine were an Epiphone Dot and a Gretsch Streamliner that I didnt keep for long. Keep up the great work, amazing playing btw.
I know what you mean in a way. I picked up a new GLP Standard in 2018 which was not right. Problems fixed now but it has left me with mixed feeling about the guitar. Result is she does not get all that much air time..👍🇦🇺
I was in the same situation. I had just bought a harley benton goldtop with p90s the guitar came with I thought was a scratch on the back of the neck it sounded great and i didnt want tot get rid of it. After showing my dad and hes been playing guitar since 1959 he told me just to return it while i could and the neck could be broken after watching your first video on your goldtop I did. It was a hard decision it was.
Glad to hear the goldtop is going to a great guy! any guitar i can't bound with goes to guitars4vets & that way i don't have to many of em lying around unloved/played!
Hi Dave, can you give your opinion on what power supply would be the best to power together my Boss DS2, Wailer Wah and a Boss super chorus? When in doubt, ask Dave...
I own a Vintage V6P 3 P90's it's a beast and I love it , I agree you must have that bond with the instrument, if you don't it will not inspire you play, shit happens sometimes guitars get through the cracks but generally Vintage does produce excellent guitars, next guitar for me is a Telecaster V75 by Vintage but I am not going the HB way and order online, rather go to a shop feel the instrument then I know is this is the one I can practice each day and enjoy it, wonderful playing Dave cheers!
I couldn’t believe that it’d would show in your playing that indeed you haven’t bonded with it. It still sounds wicked though. Good call to give it to Bob the legend :)
Dear Dave in your search for the perfect LP gold top, you are single coil player like me … the best I found is a P90 LP gold top from the French brand Custom 77 and It’s my fav … I have a Gibson LP and a Tokaï with humbucker but this 50 style gold top is a dream …
thanks Dave, for all the Vintage JHS players like me, it is a nice advice to know that the quality control and the general quality of the instruments went down so much. It is sad anyway. I had some pieces from Vintage that were playing better than Fender or Gibson. The Vintage option has ended. Everything should have an end.
We've all had something which( for some reason or another) prevents us from positively bonding with whatever it is. I believe somewhere in the world there's some one whom this guitar was made for. Will fate find them and bring them together? Who knows, but it would be interesting to see the next 50 or 60 years and see this guitars journey
It's great, but it's not, it plays well, but it doesn't..... It sounded good man, looks great too. Let's hope Bob gets some use out of it and you don't look at it as one of those that got away.
Not sure your a les paul player, maybe more a strat chap. Although something about gold tops that makes one want to own one. I have a couple of les pauls, and am a bit of a nut for them, however I find playing the sleek neck of my £70 tele much easier. We are all different, and that's what makes us so very human. The pleasure I see when you play suggests the name on the head stock is irrelevant as long as it's a player. Keep on keeping on
Maybe before you ditch it can you make some Bolan / Mick Ronson, rippin hot 70's sounds. Maybe bust out a tone bender clone and some octaves and play some crazy shit
I bought the same guitar and ended up return it. It played well but the finish was AWFUL. Looked like a 12 year old attacked it with a can of glitter spray paint.
Not being cheeky mate, but the finish looks absolutely awful now! IMO ive gone from quite liking worn finishes 10 years ago to thinking every kid wants to relic a cheap copy axe nowadays and imagine it's a 40 year old gib or fender! I don't get it, either leave it alone or get out and play the darn thing,it will soon be distressed believe me! They look cheesy and resale harder!🙂
Wait !!!! it’s a great guitar!!! So you don’t bond with it , so what!!! A great musician don’t bond - they pick it up & just play it at all levels and highlight every tones .. oh well.
Lose the unboxing video. You’ve done something positive with a negative situation by giving the guitar to Bob. Don’t dwell in the negativity, so I say lose the unboxing video. Just my 2pence worth.
Bob is one lucky man having a good friend like yourself Dave.
What a great gift, Bob will be very happy.
The flame maple poking out from the gaps in the gold top is as pretty as anything
Hi Dave ,nice decision to give it to your good friend bob ,the goldtop have a chance to have love and care ! thanks for your video ,take care and be safe .
Fantastic gesture, good man Dave 👍.
It’s always good to pay it forward, you did good Sir David
Good call Dave, and very well deserved Bob! I think there's a valuable lesson in this one about how much better it is to visit your local shop to try before you buy... where possible... so pretty much nowhere! 😒

I extremely love this guitar.
My Ibanez is very lonely now.
What a great gesture Dave. that playing took me to another dimension bro. all my troubles seemed to float away with every note...Cheers
For somebody who hasn’t bonded with a guitar ,that sounded damn good!!.Brilliant Dave thank you, great video.
I think Dave would make a one-string broomstick guitar sound good... you can't hold talent down. I have a couple of Vintage LP's... they can sound good and are well made. Great solo. Like it very much!
Some really great playing and some EXCELLENT moments here, warts and all. Bravo.
When you don't feel it ... you just don't, as simple as that! Very nice from you to give it away after having made it much better!
I put you on when I'm going to sleep and its the best way to go to sleep for sure with an airpod in my ear and my face melting off from your hour long shred sessions. You're awesome mate keep it up 🤘
“Bending the monkeys out of it” is the best line ever haha should go on a T-shirt!
Love the Channel Dave keep it up... by the way that taping bit that you did was amazing!
Congratulations Bob
That's pretty Kewl of you David
Looks used for sure
I never understood relicking a guitar
I want a new one to look new
Old to look old but each to there own
TFS Enjoyed!

Amazing playing, what a ride. Especially the final bluesy part omg
Awesome bro. Great karma to give it to someone that helped you out. Truly awesome.
King Dave, awesome deal. Did I mention I also go by Bob :)
P.S. thanks again for my brothers send off song Dave, you struck so many hearts.
Your very welcome. I hope the song gives comfort.
Such a great thing to do Dave.... The universe will reward you im sure Bro! You appear to have more affinity with strats IMHO.... Stay strong and keep safe 😊🎸🎶

You are always the generous gentleman Dave.
Perhaps you could send me some of you're old GF's George :)
Good evening King 👑 Dave.. Best wishes from the biggest fan...
Awesome, awesome jam. Lovely stuff. And I hope Bob enjoys the guitar :o)
Was that Bob...ringing the doorbell. He wants his GoldTop!
Wonderful, great solution, whoever Bob is, I'm happy for him. I just wanted to ask, whats the deal with the heel of the vintage guitars? I haven't try one but the joint tenent basically in all models seems out of place, seems to start very early, don't you think?
It needs a treble bleed fitting to the volume pots that will sort the bassy sound when you turn down the volume I sell them on eBay
Think you did the right thing Dave. Just watching you play, you dont look as comfortable as you usually do, still a nice slice of 6 string playing but you are not at home with that one. Have a good weekend. Thanks tunes to make the weekend a little better :)
Man, that was one sweet improv
Great playing Dave, seemed like the more you played the more you started bonding with😉👍
What a cool decision, Bob you get a Dave guitar! and a great musical send off :)
@27 mins you got gary moore tone and feel and thats impressive noone i heard before came that close to that tone .
im speechless.
I’m in love with my gold top pre Wilko not v100 but every one else on CZcams or the internet says it’s crap because it has a bolt on neck even though they have never seen one or played one the chosen ones have spoken ....yours looks great I have a v100 I do like it but a bit to chunky..well done Dave let it go

happy Friday Dave! have a good weekend.
Great Gesture Dave, thats what friends are for
I think you performed a proper exorcist on the gold top. All demons have left. Good vibes for Bob!
it does look good on you though man, and your playing...oh my god, just awsome.
Cheers on donating it.
Good choice Dave!
Great gesture Dave, if I was bob I would strip the gold off completely and stain the flame maple top!
Oh, yeah. Had forgotten that one. 👣🎸
nice one dave ,heart of gold ,stay safe.......................dougie
Upload the unboxing Dave, let it be a lesson to Vintage for their allowing of substandard products to be sold.
Now you can make room for the P-93 Gold top & do a unboxing & review.
Well played move, with the gifting.....
Will take Dave over Frusciante any day of the week.
Good choice Dave 👍
I know what you mean in a way. I picked up a new GLP Standard in 2018 which was not right. Problems fixed now but it has left me with mixed feeling about the guitar. Result is she does not get all that much air time..👍🇦🇺

Sounds absolutely awesome. Shame you didn't bond with it .
Your amazing mate
Well.. great sound is it Wilkinson humbuckers?
Jan from Denmark
They are yeps.
Glad to hear the goldtop is going to a great guy! any guitar i can't bound with goes to guitars4vets & that way i don't have to many of em lying around unloved/played!
Hi Dave what do you think a out the pickup on this , they sound good or you change?
The stock pickups are great. :)
Hi Dave, can you give your opinion on what power supply would be the best to power together my Boss DS2, Wailer Wah and a Boss super chorus? When in doubt, ask Dave...
Voodoo labs pedal power two plus. :)
@@thedavesimpson Thanks so much for the answer, I have been on a marathon watching your videos, so much great stuff
Do you have a video about how to relic guitars?
I do yes. :)
Man you should try a the new Epiphone range - not sure they have a gold top yet but the 2020 headstock and CTS electronics really helps them along
Yep they do and they have a “worn” version as well as a 50’s standard - the worn is only £350
I own a Vintage V6P 3 P90's it's a beast and I love it , I agree you must have that bond with the instrument, if you don't it will not inspire you play, shit happens sometimes guitars get through the cracks but generally Vintage does produce excellent guitars, next guitar for me is a Telecaster V75 by Vintage but I am not going the HB way and order online, rather go to a shop feel the instrument then I know is this is the one I can practice each day and enjoy it, wonderful playing Dave cheers!
Honestly never liked gold top les pauls but the relic job makes it look fucking amazing
I couldn’t believe that it’d would show in your playing that indeed you haven’t bonded with it. It still sounds wicked though. Good call to give it to Bob the legend :)
Great to see the channel is growing
Around 75k now!
this guitars are solid maple top?
Three piece top.
Dear Dave in your search for the perfect LP gold top, you are single coil player like me … the best I found is a P90 LP gold top from the French brand Custom 77 and It’s my fav … I have a Gibson LP and a Tokaï with humbucker but this 50 style gold top is a dream …
I have something similiar about Vintage les Paul which I tried. I thought that I even like this but I will not use it with band and so on
woa? Do I keep it? This gorgeous guitar? edited: if you just can t bond... I guess it s up to you.
thanks Dave, for all the Vintage JHS players like me, it is a nice advice to know that the quality control and the general quality of the instruments went down so much. It is sad anyway. I had some pieces from Vintage that were playing better than Fender or Gibson. The Vintage option has ended. Everything should have an end.
Great move. Did Vintage not get in touch?
They didn't no.
Some guitars you can bond with and some you just can’t. Better to let It go.
Vintage should hire you to do all the relics on their guitars Dave as that V100 looks epic and that is coming from someone who aint a fan of relics!
i'll take it if you don't want it Dave :)
Upload the video Dave please, it's part of the goldtop story👍
Makes me think of the '56 GT that got away many many years ago ... sigh.
We've all had something which( for some reason or another) prevents us from positively bonding with whatever it is. I believe somewhere in the world there's some one whom this guitar was made for. Will fate find them and bring them together? Who knows, but it would be interesting to see the next 50 or 60 years and see this guitars journey
oh and by the way im going to buy a goldtop asap.i miss the one i had before.
Nice. 👍
Once I’ve perfected it, I’m gonna show you how to play the chords to ‘Wild Thing’.
Don’t thank me yet. 🤨
Dave Would you take 75 pounds and a Ken Dodd lp for it .....it has tears for souvenirs on it
I have the vintage greeny model and I love it, the relicing could be better though
a happy ending after all :)
Doesn’t Prefab Sprout Paddy Mcaloon live near you ?
Greeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttting
It's great, but it's not, it plays well, but it doesn't..... It sounded good man, looks great too. Let's hope Bob gets some use out of it and you don't look at it as one of those that got away.
if 2199 people donated 1pound , dave could have a nice Gold top Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s
Not sure your a les paul player, maybe more a strat chap. Although something about gold tops that makes one want to own one. Where is the video with the valve amp
?
Coming soonish. :)
You have too show the unboxing video now dave get it out of your system
Dude you are on faia
I get the "bonding" thing, but sorry to say, that guitar has better tone then your Strats
I bought the same guitar and ended up return it. It played well but the finish was AWFUL. Looked like a 12 year old attacked it with a can of glitter spray paint.

Wait !!!!
it’s a great guitar!!!
So you don’t bond with it , so what!!!
A great musician don’t bond - they pick it up & just play it at all levels and highlight every tones .. oh well.
If you can't bond theres no connection. If there's no connection its not the right guitar for you.
Lose the unboxing video. You’ve done something positive with a negative situation by giving the guitar to Bob. Don’t dwell in the negativity, so I say lose the unboxing video. Just my 2pence worth.
Vintage is one of the most worst Guitarbuilder of the World
