Hey guys! One correction. It's the Snapdragon 778G. Totally my bad on not catching that. Everything else, very much correct. Please accept my apologies!

Don't worry, you also failed to tell us what tech the screen uses.
@@wagesof58 Since it has a fingerprint sensor on the side, its an LCD panel...
Wish they have a flagship device with that ruggedness and removable back, batteries.
And a very high end LCD. I'd pay 200 bucks extra for an LCD sku and I'm not the only one. Why haven't OEMs figured out that they can overcharge for certain hardware features that we used to take for granted? What an opportunity!
@@awesomeferret There is a certain point where you're not going to get removable batteries if you want everything else too. Slimness, weight, and waterproof mainly.
@@sirreginaldthe4th all of which I don't care a lot about. Thank you for helping me make my point. You're commenting on a video that proves that you can have most of those features with a removable battery too, so I am a bit confused.
And please, stop with the "slimness" argument. That's actually embarrassing considering how phones like my LG V20 and V40 (a 7 year old phone and a 3 year old one) are thinner than many modern high end flagships due to the trend of bigger batteries. Sometimes people want a more useful tool instead of something that's slightly lighter and thinner.
Lol samsung used to make great phones, like the person above me said and i had a s5plus with removable battery and watertight ( went accidentally in a pool with it ) and 3,5mm jack.
@@thomdejong462ah yes, samsung doesn't make good phones anymore because they don't have a removable back.
Thank you for finally covering these phones. I've been frustrated at the tech media for years for pretending that Samsung hasn't been making phones with removable batteries and headphone jacks. Thankfully, in the past two years or so, they seem to have gotten slightly more mainstream attention. Believe me, it's frustrating to read "phones with removable batteries and headphone jacks can't have water resistance" on a blog when Samsung released a phone in the same year that defies those words. Share kinds of articles weren't even from that long ago, I'm talking like 2017.
@Kanaba Nakamura oh, I haven't forgotten about them at all. I haven't forgotten about the price and losing your cameras with custom ROMs either. And apparently, they forcefully run the UI in 1080p instead of the obvious 1440p (I'm not expecting them to run in 4k all the time, obviously). So the solution to that problem has been effectively blocked by Sony with the camera DRM. Thanks, Sony.
If the Sony Xperia one line cost 800 bucks or less, I would already have one. Because I can get an older one at that price, I'll probably do that, but I'm going to use my LG V40 for a few more years because it's just too good, and I bought it brand new for 350 US dollars. I'd be paying 800 bucks for a better camera, better battery life and a higher refresh rate. That's the problem with people like me who kept using older phones to keep premium hardware features: you have to spend a HUGE amount to get feature parity with your 7 year old smartphone, where if you had a 2 year old phone before, then a phone with MicroSD and a headphone jack and 1440p or higher display may be an upgrade.
It's perfect for my security company. The PTT for radio between officers, programmed the top button as a bodycam button (starts the camera), and talk & text all in one!!!
Hey, out of curiosity, for your Xcover, what program do you use for PTT?
you can program the power button to open the camera when pressed twice
They really should've put the front camera in the massive bezel there's no need for that notch hahaha
They probably reused a display from a different phone model, I'm guessing an A series Galaxy phone of some kind
It’s already proportioned for other electronics fit against it. Bet it’s the same(same form) cam, vibrater, and more.
@@kbhasi they also have considerably bigger a-series screens which wouldn't give that much bezel
Gosh I wish all phones had a button for the light. It is so infuriating when you need a light to have to enter the phone and find it to use. That one button is a winner for me. Sadly I already have a new smartphone so will have to live life without it.
Shit... I kind of want this 😢
If only it wasn't 600 dollars.
Little kids in the comments complaining about specs when we literally get nothing like this anymore.
Yea, it has the 3 essentials at least.... everything is just madness and has been for over 7 years.
If this had an S pen and an IR blaster it'd be my forever phone. As it is, it'll likely be my dad's forever phone once his S5 finally craps out.
I wish they would have new version of the projector phones, that thing was awesome!
I was even considering it a few years back (altho it was already outdated by then).
Could be super banging for watching ceeling youtube videos
Just bring back removable batteries!!!!!
No kidding! That was awfully clever of them, wasn't it? Since we might expect the phone itself to last, what-- four or five years? While the *battery* will not! So!-- because you can't safely remove and replace a worn-out battery, guess what we do?
That's right! We buy a new phone, probably at least a year sooner than we might if we could put a new battery in our existing phone!
I'm laughing with you, but really, the fact is that I'm furious about it, as everyone should be. This is completely designed manipulation and purely contemptuous behavior by Samsung and all the others.
2028, eu mandated removable batteries by 2028
Im still using a Galaxy S5 Activ, its gonna be 10 years old next december. Starting to lose functionality now, but mostly due to lack of support or updates for the OS & apps. Best phone Ive ever had and its wild that its almost completely usable after 9,5 years.
see if you can get more out of it using custom ROMs from xda developers
thats exactly what i just upgraded from. The S5, considering what its endured, is a juggernaut and ill be sad to see it go to the shelf next to my motorola razor flip.(black of course). 10 years though in phone age might as well be a millennium.
I loved my s5 but have had to update to a54 as the s5 wouldn't hold charge even with a new battery. Had me wondering if samsung was doing the apple thing to force an upgrade.
S5 is particularly good as it can do VoLTE so will still survive after the 3g networks get switched off. Sadly if you ever want Lineage OS it seems VoLTE support is not possible.
@@osoboe is that why my s5 would still run youtube and internet searches but my partners note3 would not?
For what I need a phone, the XCover lineup has always been perfect for me!
It would have been so nice if Samsung actually brought the active series back, flagship tier phones offering this level of durability.
But with a very high end microled back lit LCD. An OLED display would be a dealbreaker for a phone designed to be durable.
@@awesomeferret are LEDs supposed to be much more durable? Are you talking about screen burn in?
@@samfrabel2356 yes, I'm talking about screen burn in. A phone designed to be used outside should be designed to handle long periods of high brightness use. OLED can now get brighter, but at a long term longevity cost. If it was OLED, then the screen would always be the first to wear out, and it should be the battery, not the screen.
@@awesomeferret I understand now. Thank you
@@awesomeferret Yeah But That Is Bc LCD's Do Not Have Burn-In's Like OLED's But OLED Displays Are More Durable And Tougher Than LCD's Nowadays Because LCD's Are Made Out Of Glass And When You Try To Bend It It Breaks Instantly But OLED Displays Are Made Out Of Plastic Flexible Panel So If You Bend An OLED Display It Won't Break At All So In My Opinion Rugged Phones Should Have ShatterProof Plastic Screens With Flexible OLED
Outside of Samsung XCover line, only Fairphone gives user-replaceable battery on their smartphone. I'm more than happy to take a thick phone with removable battery over thin fragile phones that can't remove the battery.
As for this XCover 6 Pro, it does show that Samsung has no problem giving USB3 with wired video output and DeX for a phone with Snapdragon 7 series SoC. What's even more ironic is that the Tab S7 FE 5G with Snapdragon 750G SoC also support wired DeX. By right, the A42 5G, A52 5G, A52s 5G, and A73 should have no problem getting such a great useful feature as well.
Yeah Samsung is just gatekeeping all the nicer features.
My tab s6 lite, heck my tab a10.1 2019 could also techncially do secondscreen with one ui.3.1 but it was locked.
You can access this feature by going in the menu and doing some spam clicking here and there tho. But it's clearly not for regular use..
A phone doesn't have to be thick to have a removable battery. I'm still using my LG V20 with removable battery and its thinner than most phones on the market today.
I've worked in a bakery for years and so haven't owned a NONruggedized phone since 2015. It started with the s6 active which lasted until it got run over by a jeep cherokee (which actually happened twice but it survived the first accident). Then I went to the s8 active which I bought refurbed in 2017 and which finally got the battery bloat of death last week. It survived being dropped in buckets of raw eggs, run over by rolling racks full of cake, knocked off my work bench a million times. So this week I've upgraded to the xcover6 pro in the hopes that it lives up to its predecessors' legacy. Hate the name, but love the phone so far. Ive read a few users having screen issues from the phone getting bent in their back pocket so imma just slap an otterbox on it anyway. And Ive already had the Android12 battery drain predicament which is easily fixed. You have to shut off Always On and responsive screen brightness and it goes back to normal battery life. its trying to use the camera as a light sensor which is foolish and i 100% blame android and not samsung.
Which is better, XCover6 Pro or XR21? I need a phone that won't die in rain or snow.
The last line is all I needed to confirm this will be my dad's phone 😂
Thanks for the review. I am 100% agreement with you and the Active line. I am just now having to leave my s7 Active behind after 8 great years! The s5 active I had was equally reliable. I've been too scared to pull the trigger on an AGM (size n weight) or the DOOGEE v20 pro. Stick with what I know, I guess the xcover6 pro may be for me.
Why didn't you go to the S8 Active?
okay apparently there is 2 different versions.... What is the plusses and minusses of the 2 versions, the normal vs the Enterprise Edition
I think this is a great phone. I don't know why people slam the speaker so much though, I really don't think its that bad, but I'm not trying to use my phone speaker to listen to music or movies, who does that on any phone? When using speaker phone I have never had an issue understanding or hearing the other person. I've been a flagship samsung person for a long time, and the cost of the new ones drove me to the XCover6, not sure I'll ever go back to the insanely expensive flagships ever again so long as they keep making ones like this. I would probably prefer they bring back the active line though, my S8 active was my favorite phone to date.
S9 Active was my all time favorite,, if you're trade is construction like mine... Plumbing & Gas work it was the best... I just mite get this phone. I like a good camera though but it seems good enough for me so I may try it
can you move around the navigation buttons?
Watching this on my s8 active FINALLY about to upgrade 😂 this thang still a beast
I don't think the phone is that great, you can get more - the ruggedness if you buy an a54 or something. And save some money.
What? There are non-Chinese phones with removable batteries? Why didn't I knew this before?
Will this work with Zello with the screen off while using the walkie-talkie
Once it has been out of production for 6 months we will know if it was worth buying.
I hope they start to make more compact devices again by then. Until that day I hope my xcover 5 keeps working....
Can it use without battery like tab active?
Wow a real phone... with the foundational 3 essentials.... what is the microSD fat32 or exfat?
I'm not a boomer, but I'm not young, I really appreciated that I can swap out batteries and use wired headphones when needed on this phone. Other people will say, just make sure your headphones are charged. But that's not always going to work when you are out and about and wired headphones are instant on. No need to pair or anything. As you'd imagine I have this phone and I've paired it with a charging dock which also charges an additional battery. Also, I have a wired/wireless headphone combination. When it's charged, I can use it as bluetooth, when it's not, I can use it as wired as well. Best of both worlds!
same. I appreciate having both options and I mostly use my wired headphones on a daily basis
Great video
What makes this a dad phone? Samsung chose to stock it with 2019 spec hardware, not us. I would have loved to seen it closer to $1k with a modern snapdragon, 8gb ram, wireless charging if plausible, and nicer cameras.
@Tyler Well how much of a tech nerd is your father. Because if he isn't much of one than it be easier to recommend this phone. And what kind of work does he do. My father isn't the most tech savvy person (only uses phone for calls, text, e-mail, etc.) But he also likes to go outdoors and Kayakk. Destroyed two phones by dropping in river, and on rocky ground.
As far as the specs are concerned. Yes better specs is better, But if you don't do intense camera work, or play games. than TBH a phone from 2016 can suffice. Also Replacement parts for this phone are cheaper here than in better hardware specked phones. As this phone was meant to be bought by Enterprise, and Enterprise tend to have stock of parts on hand. Its also a reason they didn't went with Oled, despite oled fixing the screen burn in features. Granted the speakers are mono so that is a big negative for my dad.
Granted there are other rugged phones with cheaper prices and offer better ruggedness. But given the weight of those other phones (my dad prefers stuff to be light as possible), quality of the software, and the Xcover being surprisingly (and cheaply) reparable. This makes it the perfect phone for my father.
The processor of the phone is snapdragon 778g not snapdragon 788g.
And a moment where Ryan realized he's human 🤣 unfortunately still catching up on sleep after CES. Sorry for the confusion friend.
Bought one for 4900SEK including shipping witch would be around 444USD after using the cat s62 pro for a year and it feels so much better besides the ruggedness. The Motorola you mentioned here would cost more than twice that at the cheapest i could find here and i do not like spending to much money on phones. For the price i paid i think it is worth it but the flashlight and the wake up/sleep button are my only 2 things i had any issue with.
I forgot Samsung did the active line 😂
Can you guys check out the Sonim XP10?
I just picked one up for 70$ to use as a gps on my motorcycle. Very excited
still going?
yes would love to have this packaged with better screen with inscreen finger print sensor - come on Samsung please make this happen
underscreen fingerprint sensors should be banned
Side fingerprint scanners are better.
I work for Walmart and we are to these from the cover pro5 and I hope it will be better the pro 5 sucks and I'm a Front End Team lead and need my phone to work so I can support my cashiers when they need something
Anyone know if there's a way to root the device?
What about the Nokia XR20?
I'd get the Xcover if they had wireless charging. The Galaxy S5 had a removable battery + wireless charging + water resistance and I miss it. I had one of the new Nokias and it had a problem that could only be resolved by *shock* disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Something easily solved if it wasn't a sealed design.
If the xcover had wireless charging, a superamoled screen and looked abit more clean I'd get it too.
Because it has no reason to not have these features considering that the A54 costs less and can do it (except the wireless charging bit, which other cheaper phones do as well)
ohh lack of wireless charging might be the only drawback for me. looks like everything else is an improvement from my galaxy s10e. but the durability without a case might still be worth it for me 🤔 hmmmm...
is this good phone i have xcover pro is this much better?
Actually the MicroSD card looks like you can take it out while the battery is in it like the LG V20 - still far from perfect and as it should be but much better then with the battery locks it in place. Now the Simcard is another story.
Nice I'm gonna be getting one for work tomorrow at walmart. :)
Is it as rugged as advertised when it comes to falls (without a case) ??❓❓
Seems the speed of the Xcover 6 pro in geekbench is pretty near close to the FP5
I told my dad, you had his phone. Good luck.
Samsung Should Release Galaxy S23 Active Or Xcover Ultra Which Is Based On Galaxy S23
Totally agree. I have tremors and constantly hands giving out. There needs to a higher tech durable phone
@@myraarsenault6425True, Phones Used To Be Very Durable Back In The Time And If You Drop An 10 Year Old SmartPhone From The 5th Floor It Would Survive With No Problem At All Because The Screens Were Plastic Then And They Would Be Drop Resistant But Now Phones These Days Have Big Screen Made Out Of Glass And They Would Shatter If You Drop It From Chest Height
My s8 takes better (not higher resolution, higher quality) pictures than my coworkers iphone 14, came with a 4500mah battery, and 1440p screen, all while being virtually damage proof. 3.5 jack, SD card slot, 4g, wireless charging, it has been my daily for almost 6 years now with not a regret besides the lack of viable replacements. Until now that is
ahahahhahaah s8 is definitely not damage proof
My S6 Edge does even better..
you're lying to yourself buddy. i upgraded from an s9+ and the difference is day and night compared to any flagship these days

Wireless charging on an S8. Not on mine there isn't.
I don't find the speakers to be that offensive. They are not amazing, but they get really loud and are definetly clearer than the ones from my parents older phones!
here too see if this phone is what i want as i just had the back camera quit focusing on my x cover pro. looks like ill be happy with it for only 75$ insurance claim fee through my cellular provider.
I had the Galaxy Xcover3 2016
120hz or 60?
just bought it for 230€ , 1 year after this video. i think now its worth picking it up!
Shame the 4, 4s or cover 5 don't share batteries with anything newer..m 4/4s shared with 5s of many years ago. So I had spare batteries.
x cover pro back detaches when it's dropped so its totally is NOT rugged because dirt or water can get inside. best solution always keep it in a case.
do you think the screen will crack without a case ?
Dude, the phone is still new and in stores. What do you want a phone that is 1 day old?
it's an incredibly functional phone but it feels so unresponsive when I use it, which is something I never see reviewers talk about, you can even see how long it takes for it to open the photos at 3:20, for anyone wanting a phone that just does what a phone needs to do you may be better off buying a cheap used phone from apple or something, this phone was really meant for corporations
I probably would have bought this if it had an 8+ Gen 1 and the requisite 12GB of RAM. Instead I went for a Fold 4.
Samsung should consider making a Galaxy XCover Ultra.
@@smartphonefan5226 They'll give you A54 specs at s22u prices.
Wait, it doesn't have 60 FPS video shooting? There's no way that's missing. It's a SD 778G. No way.
I hate huge phones. I keep them in a front trouser pocket, and every time I sit to tie a shoe lace, or bend down to pick something up from the ground, the phone usually maxes out in the pocket space, then becomes a curve phone. I've managed to put a slight bend on a Nokia X20. A huge phone is also a magnet for taking a smack in a factory work environment, or in the railway working world, where bumping tables or rolling around on ballest under rolling stock usuall kills them. But I also want a phone that looks half decent, has good features, but most importantly - WORKS. I upgraded from the Nokia X20, after my T20 Tablet had to be replaced due to the battery not being charged one Christmas (Rookie mistake), and the X20 just being a headache most times, being less reliable with each update. I went out and got the Pixel 6. Great phone out the box. only a month later, and I'm asking myself what the meaning of life is, because it's clearly not with Android, since the Pixel 6 hasn't been able to keep a cell signal for more than 5 seconds, and compared to all of my past phones, I just can't hear it ring in my pocket, under my overalls. It's so damn quiet on full volume, Google should hang their heads in shame. I don't like Apples camp - too closed, but it does work. And I'm biting my wallet with Android, because Google has gone off the rails with so many updates that break every other phone.
Xcover6 drop test certification 1,50 meters, Lenovo Thinkphone 1,25 meters. There is no microSD port, and no 3.5mm Audio on the Lenovo. Battery is non-removable on the Lenovo and it does not have POGO pins to easily charge in a dock. XCover6 has Gorilla Glass Victus Plus vs Lenovo with Gorilla Glass Victus. But the Lenovo has better performance overall in CPU, cameras, and charging.
Does the US version have dual SIM?
only international version. It does have E-Sim Functionality though
The true replacement for the old active line is the xcover field pro line. I own a xcover field pro and the screen will not break.
If they would pack a better quality camera in a phone with a removable battery, headphone jack, and reliable water resistance, I'd buy that phone in a heartbeat. I miss removable, user-replaceable batteries.
ziplock bag gives you infinite water resistance.I wish it had wireless charging, otherwise perfect. only 5g phone now with replaceable battery and 3mm jack. latter great bc can charge and listen at same time without ever running out of battery like on long flights and trips. I can always snap on a camera
@@im7254 I'm not gonna carry my phone around in a ziplock bag lmao
@@sekoncen9559 you carry bag separately and don't use it unless you for some reason can't avoid jumping into a pool or standing in open rain somehow for half an hour. it's common sense when traveling as tourist somewhere. it's a phone, not a submarine
@@im7254 we have the technology to make phones VERY water resistant. I want a phone that's durable and reliable. I'm not tossing it off cliffs or anything but I don't want a phone that breaks after one or two drops or being accidentally dropped into water. The plastic bag just defeats the whole reason I insist on water resistance.
@@sekoncen9559 there is little difference in how long something is submerged in water as if any gets in it's probably going to short something rolling around. air leaving phone as bubbles would suck water in too. gas tightness is very hard to do for device that should be easy to take apart and with many ports, resistance to splashes is all we need with water tension making it hard to enter through small openings. even most adult toys couldn't handle being submerged...
The real question is: "Does this phone shut off *completely* when its power is shut down?" That way I do not have to take the battery out when I want to have my privacy.
Imo you can alwadz pull the battery
Does it have fm radio?
Sadly, no.
For the extremely low price i paid, new, screw any other manufacturer lol. Plus samsung supports their phones for ages.

Americans live a way faster life 😂
Too bad I’d still like good cameras and a nice screen. There is no reason manufacturers can’t build flagship-level phones with all of these features except that they don’t want to.
Yea the devil made the whole mobile marked corrupt. At least it has the 3 essentials... but yea... sad the last flag ship phone with the 3 essentials was the 7 year old LG V20. And I had to order the LG 20 from Hongkong, it was not sold in Europe.

Dosent excuse what Samsung is doing tho. I wished a phone like this was the norm, just higher spec and lower price.
Should have tested it with a 61 year old. My husband shattered that glass and no one wanted to fix it for less than 200. Won't spend that. Cheaper to buy him a different phone. At&t blame you Samsung
Buyer beware - I just bought one this month, and I have been slammed with junk emails, fishing emails, and - especially - attempts to install viruses via email attachments. I am getting approximately 60 of the emails each day, starting at 5 a.m., waking me multiple times every morning.
As far as the phone, it has been a little glitchy. I think it is because I had to buy it via Amazon, so it is not optimized for my carrier, T Mobile.
For example, all proper nouns are in all lower case letters.
Additionally, voice-to-text is horrible...even worse than with the Ulefone Armor 9 it replaced (that is a horrible phone, btw). Ditto for auto-correct.
I don't understand why new phones today perform these tasks worse than phones ten years ago.
Now you know.
I wish, wish, wish the major carriers would offer at least one rugged phone that works as well as ordinary phones. They don't.
Bro, its my phone and im 13.
All phones will require replaceable batteries

I simply cannot get my head around how this review dances around the elephant in the room, which can be boiled down to:
No craftsman or hiker has EVER asked for a phaplet! Since this is the two main target groups for this phone, it genuinely seems odd that they've gone with the 6.6'' design. It is *BONK*ing mad.
The Xcover series has committed suicide by making itself irrellevant - especially after 2027 where phones sold in EU must have user-changeable batteries (one of the last selling points for the Xcover series).
Would they have used just some measure of user insights (I know, I know), they'd gone with an update of a completely different frame. Or slimmed the FieldPro down...
Changing batteries with common tools (user replaceable) is not the same as easy changing by popping the back with bare hands and slipping a new charged battery in the field (when backpacking, on construction site, etc).
As for phablet size yeah I agree with you - the 4" screen of Galaxy S4 was perfectly adequate for navigating, as I remember it.
Not for $600
