I bought a used 1977 R75/7 from a dealer in Nashville TN back in 1997. I rode it back to Memphis where I lived and didn't like the touring seat someone had put on it. It also had a Windjammer fairing which I hated. I looked up Bob's BMW and found an original seat and a new R90S fairing along with a new front fender which had been cracked.
The Windjammer went into a trash dumpster along with the touring seat.
I was concerned with the fuel tank and took it to a radiator shop that hot dipped the tank to strip it and pressure test it. Turned out the guy had his own BMW twin and knew what he was doing. He brazed three pinholes in the bottom of the tank. No worries with it now. He even recommended a good paint shop. They did a nice job.
I sent the carbs to Bing for overhaul and bought one of those mercury carb balancers which worked perfectly.
I added R90S bars for the new fairing.
Then I rode from Memphis to Laredo TX to Carlsbad NM to San Diego to Malibu to Las Vegas and back to Memphis.
    Nice trip

Great find. Very envious. I like the idea of refreshing the mechanical aspects of the bike but leaving the cosmetics. They’re only original once. I would put the seat back to original though (but that’s just me 😉)

What have you got yourself into? One of the most beautiful BMWs ever crafted!
I remember the literature in the 70s when that came out the picture of an orange bike hurdling around a corner at a great lean!

Patina really is good because you can relax and ride the bike with no worries at all, I'd only change the seat back to standard

Beautiful bike. Wish I would have found it first!😂 I would do the mechanical stuff and ride it. The Lester’s look good on it and were a common “upgrade” in the day. The brakes are marginal on these. It would be worth an upgrade. I think you have featured some good options on your channel. Can always get spare sliders if you want to keep the originals available for future sale.
If the seat is comfortable, ride it. The paint looks good in the video.
In my mind, that bike is the ultimate prize of vintage Airheads. If you ever sell it, you will regret it.
