@KBM515 Reginald flat out said that "working with him was a challenge", so Jo Marie Payton wasn't the only one who had a problem with him. The difference is that Reginald prettied it up a bit by saying that "overall", he has positive memories of him. As Sara said, he was being graceful, but acknowledged that there was a difficult aspect of his personality. It sounds like he just felt like there was no reason to bring it back up after all this time and wanted to end on a positive note.

Of all the iconic TV dads, Carl Winslow is one of the best and my personal favorite. He wasn't overly goofy, he was as stern as they come but caring at all times, and he was the prototype of what it means to be a good dad.
As a white kid, Carl was one of the earliest looks into black culture that I ever got. And I think he spoke to us white kids in a way we really needed. Given how other black men were represented in media at that time, Carl was different in the best way and showed all of us white kids that black dads were just like our dads and we're not so different.
And as I got older, I loved his role in Die Hard. Again, just a genuinely good character showing compassion through the storms.
Reginald really comes across as that caring and compassionate person that will say what needs to be said, but you know he's not making it personal. I don't know how much he's actually acting when he plays Carl other than the not having kids part. The man has that aura of being a parent or teacher. When he talks, you want to listen because you can tell there is wisdom behind his words and a desire to see you be better.

Still and will always be one of my favorite dads. I also love how they get him in other movies and tv shows maybe not his character name but we all knew it was him and his character.

It’s interesting to hear this. I worked 7 years as a Stuntwoman on this great show. Ive got so many pictures with this cast. I definitely was clueless to all the real drama. Jaleel was one of the nicest actors Ive worked with

What a kind person he is! He was the iconic dad role of the 90’s! My daughters of this generation loved watching that show and connected to the characters. What great television from that time! Clean, wholesome and great scripts!

As a white kid growing up in the 90s (now 37) I loved family matters, looked forward to it every TGIF. I even had the Steve Urkel doll with the pull string in the back. Great times.

I never would have guessed that he never had children of his own, because he played the Dad role perfectly....and they have tried many times as well, to have cast members throw Jaleel under the bus, and he didn't bite one bit....He is truly an example of Pure CLASS
