  • Let's take a look at the Dominux8 joystick. I'll go over all the specs and install it on my Class of 81 Arcade. Is this the best the joystick out there?

    And one more for your Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga arcade cabinet - replace the microswitches in the buttons by the rollie leaf switches. They can be found at Paradise Arcade Shop or Arcade Renovations.

    Rexer,
    This is a very important video, though it may not seem so on the surface, because it points out that essential parts matter more over window dressing. This is something I've trumpeted in many of my videos. I'll pay more for quality sticks and buttons (within reason, of course), things that actually have to do with the game itself (display, sounds, and feels), over light up coin doors and tin signs. And this is just a theory Rexer, but I think you'll find some validity in it. I think those who eventually got rid of a bunch of their Arcade1Up's, did so because they realized the gameplay experience didn't feel quite right, or was absolute crap, when they actually went to play the machine. The honeymoon of just seeing a bunch of cool cabs wore off, because actually playing on them destroyed the overall illusion. And many who seem to be keeping them are mad modding the heck out of them, because they actually want to play them now. And videos like this can help people choose some quality stuff if they do decided to mod.
    By the way, Groovy Game Gear is an AMAZING store! And dude, $60 to $80 is nothing for a joystick that can give you a great experience (but of course, both of us know that). I went with this store when I commissioned my Dream Home/Extreme Home Arcades build. Now of course, the end result of the Dream Home Arcades machine itself was a disaster, but I was able to get a TRUE Tron flight stick from Groovy Game Gear installed on it, crafted from the actual commercial arcade mold, and boy does it make Arcade1Up's Tron stick feel like trash. I also got 2 push pull spinners from Groovy Game Gear and they feel great! Unfortunately the machine itself sucks and Extreme Home Arcades is a joke and doesn't fully understand how to program games to work with the great controls they ordered from Groovy Game Gear. And the faulty computer parts Dream Home/Extreme Home Arcades put into my system, made it so I have to re-seat both hard drives pretty much every time I turn it on, and then I can only choose a handful or less of games to play before the whole thing crashes to a Windows Desktop, even in the middle of gameplay, forcing yet another reboot. And don't get me started on their customer support who continually swerved me away from replacing parts, and eventually told me in a round about way, when they couldn't figure things out, that I was more than welcome to figure it out on my own. Their machine now sits in a room as a reminder that not all companies can make a good machine, even if they use the best parts.
    It's so cool to see your Class of 81' get the treatment it deserves!

    Aleays enjoy these types of vids from you. As someone that is clearly passionate AND knowledgeable about arcades, inappreciate your opinions on stuff like this. While the price is high compared to the cheap kits on amazon, it does come down to expectations and needs. Does a casual player need a $70 stick, maybe not. Would they notice a difference, maybe? It does seem that some (myself included) focused on the wrong areas to make our 1ups/arcades better. Fortunately, only after wasting money on cheap co trols, i am slowly rectifying prior bad choices. • @coasterlvr
      @coasterlvr Před měsícem

      @@TreZ circular. nothing added. if you're used to Wico, which was the original joysticks, these will feel pretty loose. i did have some slightly stiffer grommets that i swapped because i found a deal on some and needed them for other joysticks and they fit. i have the long versions to be similar how the 4" wico joysticks are. i guess my main warning would be...they are going to feel pretty loose compared to Wico joysticks. i think somewhere on the website they compare them to used wico joysticks. i can't really comment on how close that comparison is. but i will say, i really love them and have them for other uses as well. you can always try the reproduction Wico joysticks from arcadeshop too.

    you're comparing this to a replica stick? I think you should be comparing it to the A-brand leaf sticks
    e-clips are terrible indeed! lol
    I think that the short shaft option for leaf style sticks still take a wooden panel into consideration, so yeah it will be long on a thin steel panel.

    Did you test it in Windows Game Controller properties to see if it actually hits any diagonals? Reason I ask is cause I received my used official Bally/Midway Pac-Man stick which has 4-way gate, but I was still seeing diagonal 8-way behavior if I really pushed it too far in the corners, which kinda surprised me as I thought this would be legit 100% 4-way only action. But maybe due to the age, the 4-way gate might have just worn down over time, as it has been in use since the early 1980's. Still though... love this review! Definitely going to check this product out.
    Also, I'm using mame-libretro core in RetroArch for all my Pac-Man type games, and setting the run-ahead frame to 1 really helped to reduce the appearance of lag, so the perceived response is just about arcade perfect.

    • @therexershow

      I didn’t test but that would have been a good idea. It is very close whether they crossover a bit , but a fraction of a second shouldn’t cause much issue. I played a lot of 4 way games and didn’t have any issues. Played Burgertime had no issues 🤣

    • @therexershow

      I just used 1/4 inch spacers. But I think 1ups use wood panels. So just get the short joystick and you shouldn’t need spacers. But getting a good one is so hard because they've been out of production for 20 years and the only guarunteed way to buy a quality one is to find somebody selling a NOS Wico 360, there's one guy that most people know of but he charges ridiculous prices $500 upwards + shipping.
