Oh man, once they brought up Cumberbatch I immediately started picturing what his interpretation of the Whispered One might be like if they ever successfully cast him for that. Definitely nice to see Dan Casey again. Haven't seen him since his days playing Dupont Dupont on CelebriD&D.

Ehhh... there's a history of Kickstarters who didn't follow through on what was given to them. And to be honest, the CR crew immediately saw how huge of a burden had been placed on them. But they had the careful consideration (and a few industry connections) to spend the windfall wisely and well.
@@elbruces Of course there is, but over the years CR has built a reputation of just being good people who will act responsibly with money. The fact that they treated this massive pile of money as a burden only proves that they deserve this trust.

My group and I are counting the Mercers we see. We rewatched season 1 a day before release and saw even more of him. So excited for the soundtracks, jokes and backstorie stuff! I get so giddy ever time I think about this show xD

Seeing GnS and CR together again, even for a moment, I can't help but pontificate, lol-
I have to wonder if the absolutely broad willingness at GnS to experiment with all sorts of new approaches to entertainment and shows that birthed CR (IMHO more responsible for actual new players than Stranger Things that helped normalize it, but didn't help light fires of curiosity nearly so much!), today, set against the current Hasbroification of DnD at a level so extreme their own employees that aren't execs and legal have been revolting might... be indications of the dawn of the next era? Of growth in the best direction? I can dream.
Seeing the actual allies at WoTC who aren't "Witches of the Cost" harmed, sucks. I hope when we know more about who really took risks, the community rewards that loyalty. Those risking their jobs to leak to press and other allies, I mean. But they're all adults showing what they value, both the awful evil and the neutral or chaotic good of the lot. Thanks to them we know not only the NeOGL details to the letter, but even deeper context into the real thinking behind it in spite of some of the more sloppy damage control. Well hell, we know the thinking. They're even still giving us confirmation to prove what we know.
Other than the allies who might be under the boot of contracts for who knows how long, I do hope this teaches an unforgettable lesson to corporations that it ain't the 80s anymore. The kind that college courses could be created around.
Generations are coming of age who weren't raised with a choice of only a few, mostly very formula, similar choices of entertainment, even in video games.
Entire generations have learned morals not by pure theory and being frightened of theoretical eternal torment, but by living as virtual protagonists who could be rewarded for doing humane things, punished for inhumanity, even given a pure sandbox to scratch evil itches and maybe get it out of their system and evolve away from it (although picking every chest and jumping on beds in ESO will always amuse me, lol). In my experience, I've seen that create generations who still don't know it all, but aren't afraid of an egalitarian approach to allowing ppl to learn in their own ways and then do business and recreate however they want. Ya, it's created some ugly, but as a longtime Cybersecurity doink, I see growth and evolution to be hopeful about.
As far as I see it for DnD as WoTC produce it, the next few months are life and death decisions for the brand. If the execs don't get it, DnD will become almost an epithet, and we'll inevitably learn who some heroes were on the inside... Because I predict a mass resignation insofar as employees are able in their career to take the risk. If not under non-compete non disparagement clauses, I imagine those taking that risk only being rewarded. Hell, an earlier, even smaller version of today's ttrpg/general celebration of geekdom raised almost 12 million for a cartoon I thought would only be one season when I helped the Kickstarter. They just, last I checked, gave over $135k to a Kickstarter goal of $85k to help Richard Hough (edit, said Mike, a totally different guy, sorry!) the CZcams gaming attorney (check him out if you haven't but enjoy law, give if you can afford it) and no "stretch goals" or rewards are offered or expected because one of us who goes the extra mile had a stroke and needs help.

There is so much written between the lines right now with WoTC and CR, while GnS was apparently a completely amicable separation that occured with no sense that anyone had to watch what they said. CR has wanted personal creative control but never shied away from signal boosting allies (Travis, CEO was REALLY personally hooking up reacters etc with early full seasons because he gets the value of alliances that respect autonomy and so on, imo).
Makes me wonder if, in spite of Felicia Day's understandable burnout, there might be a reorganisation and resurgence of GnS.
GnS tried a lot I just wasn't into. But I respected and appreciated the attempts, and a platform that gave such broad license to "imaginators" to create in all sorts of inventive ways. It's weakness IMHO was a lack of anything unifying outside nerd and geekdom in the most general terms. But done right, with things third party creators have learned about online community interaction over the years, it could be a powerhouse homebase cooperative type of thing. Felicia and Will really were visionaries. Being tuned into things like PAX and Acquisitions Inc. as fans first, professionals second is what brought us critical role, almost directly.
There is a pretty straight line from Dr. Horrible and The Guild to where we are today. I hope looking to those ppl involved that far back as the egalitarian, crowd sourced producer of content might lead to something great.

Right on, it's always nice to see CR and Geek & Sundry do a thing. And I freaking love all the changes and alterations and enhancements and cuts and improvements to the story, because they all work and they all fit. And we know it's all coming from the right executives (i.e. Critical Role themselves).

If i wanted to watch the critical roll season 1 episodes that matches vox machina season 1 what numbers would that be? and for season 2?
It’s not really all in order, but I think the Briarwoods arc that makes up the first season of the show is primarily featured in episodes 27-36 of the stream.
The Chroma Conclave might be all the way from 36-84?
It’s a much bigger arc, with follow ups & offshoots that span a few episodes. The show will need more than just the 2nd season to finish it

Briarwood arc starts at episode 24 The Feast, season 1 story ends at 35 Denouement, 36 Winter's Crest in Whitestone was part of it too but cut from the cartoon. The ending scene of 12 with Uriels speech is from the end of episode 39 Omens where the Conclave arc starts.

Could really meld Fantasy genres and have the Matt characters be like the Weasleys from Harry Potter. All brothers in one tavern talking about their screwed up run ins Vox Machina. Jump to Vox Machina having a fight just outside the tavern with some big monster and it smashes a boulder or something into said tavern. Let it sorta amount to all the crap that Matt gets for his character names that get twisted, or ball busting before the episode starts to get him to screw up, etc.

The thing is, the only fair way there is to compare seasons is if you compare S1E1 to S2E1, season 2 wins. If you compare S1E1-2 to S2E1-2, season 2 wins. If you compare S1E1-3 to S2E1-3, season 2 wins. So far, season 1 is *not* "way better."
