I Get Paid For Having a High Basketball IQ - How You Can Too!

  • You don't have to be the fastest or most athletic basketball player to make it to the next level. However, if you do have those physical shortcomings, your skill and IQ are going to have to be elite. In this video I break down my own film as a professional player in Finland to show you what a high basketball IQ actually looks like, and how you can implement it into your own game.
    Let me know in the comments if you think you have a high IQ, or if it is something you need to work on!

    A shot fake on the first step of a layup is called a ‘Pinoy step,’ as it originated from the Philippine players (Filipino=Pinoy). I only learned about this a couple weeks ago; it’s such a great move to get that defender to jump or at least rise up and then you have a clear path on your second step.
    I watch a lot of basketball knowledge/training content and you make great videos, Tucker. Lots of people obviously appreciate them a lot. Great job.

    I think one thing that goes on the high IQ level for players to get open are off ball screens. Not just for the guy getting the screens but a player setting a back screen forcing his defender to guard the back door but while the guys primary defender is having to recover and the screen setter getting himself open for a shot after that

    Great video. I'm 32 and have been training for 10 years, will be going to the g league tryouts. Right now I'm on week 18 of a strict lifting program, where I've gained about 15 lbs since the new year. I shot 200 makes today, 300 makes yesterday in "feels like -17 degrees Celsius" weather according to a weather app lol.
    It was actually only -2, but the wind chill was bad. I figure dealing with the elements will make my mentality more iron indoors. I have to calculate for the wind on certain shots.
    I also study at least 2 or 3 offensive systems per day and draw out the plays so that it is second nature to me. I've coached university men & women, the kids who came up after me in my old college. A few game winners on the record too.
    G League tryouts are in September. Look out! If I don't make it, no worries, plenty of other places I can hoop. But my sights are set, and I think I have a strong chance given the work I've put in.

I would say for either one, just putting it in perspective and realizing at your age winning and losing doesn't matter. All that really matters is growth and if you learn from the performance you had. So if you don't play well, figuring out why is important. If you approach it like that you will be less anxious about playing badly because it is just a learning experience.

      I don't think so. You will obviously have to put in a lot of work, but a lot of kids find that game at a later stage!

      Yes, for sure! At my division 1 school I played with a few guys your size. Height isn't everything!

    Hi i got a game in a couple of hours any advice for increasing confidence and how to get more points?

    • @TuckerRichardson
      @TuckerRichardson  Před 2 měsíci

      Be really aggressive. Don't worry about makes and misses, and get out in transition to get easy buckets!

    I'm not the most athletic, and I do really well when playing slow and in control, but my coach doesn't like it too much, should I keep playing slow, or speed my game up?

    • @TuckerRichardson
