I like the “air- cooled at it’s peak” idea. 1980 was so great for Yamaha. These bikes are the wet dream of the current bikes at the time.
In my opinion, this era of motocross bikes looked the best.
Canadian models run on 50:1 fuel to maple syrup ratio.
😄eh! Kinda warm today EH
You can run 50:1, if you wanted the rings and cylinder liner to wear out faster,--and make less power. People in the know for dirt bikes did not let the environmentalists tell us to use less oil, and I still tell them to pack sand to this day.
Now I'm not one for traveling but if I'm going on holiday anywhere in the near future The Kaplan museum is on the top of my list! It's motorcycle heaven 😍
That z a badass yamahauler 125.. it's my favorite bike yet 1980,.... My years of learning, it ll fit me perfect. I have to buy it
Reminds me of my '78 YZ125! Absolute little rocket ships, blast to ride!!
Nice! Last air cooled YZ 125. I had the 1981 H model - liquid cooled with a radiator mounted on top of forks.
Good bikes nice peaky powerband
One of my faves the H,go like Hell.
The 125H was my first MX bike when I was 15. The H was the first liquid cooled YZ and had the radiator mounted on the steering yokes. They suffered from leaking coolant from the steering seals... but what an awesome top end power delivery ! Great bike. Sold it for £300 😩
@@potheadpixi had the 81 Rm125. Wish it was the Yamaha. Don't get me wrong, I loved that RM to death, it just wasn't as good as the YZ or CR that year.
@@potheadpixi Yea, I had the 1982 YZ250 with the radiator behind the front number plate. It would blow a steer tube seal and watch the grease from the lower bearing, blown on the fender and drool down the back side. I had to replace the seals once a year, and repack the lower bearing. It was easy to see when the maintenance was needed though.
She doesn't even look small with Ken onboard, I'd love to own this baby and live in the rocky mountains in a log cabin with a blonde and brunette, a nice large armoury and dog's and cats, that's me happy as I'm not greedy 😄
And I still think the blonde and the brunette would be jealous over the attention the bike is getting.
If you are not greedy, live like a cave man. Just because man "was" smart enough to build things, does not make man greedy. It just means man had intelligence.
@@EarthSurferUSA Badonka
very nice, Ross the rollerball was a beast. my first white yamaha was the 1982 yz80. then 83, solid little bikes.
Man u know its a bad ass 125cc when it sound like a 250...smooth though nice clean power delivery WOW
All models after the YZ D models in Australia were all painted white whether they were factory team works bikes or just sold to the general public. My first bike was a YZ80E and was white.
Same in Europe. USA got the yellow bikes.
Gorgeous. Yamaha the correct colour.Brings back lots of memories. Last of the good old air cooled engines. I'd love to race that in VMX!
"Correct color"? I don't know what that is, but in my book, it is not orange. :)
that sounds awesome.wish i had a few acres to spend all day riding it
That’s the sweetest sound
Always loved the crisper sound of a 125 over the bigger bore 2 strokes which had a lower tone to them .
By far my dream bike. I'd of loved 1 of these back in 1980.
Mind you saying that. I'd love to own 1 now 😃😄😃👍
Cheers kap. Me n thee are the same age. 😉
Thanks for the heart. From across the pond.
The YZ's the right colour for the UK. Just how I remember. 😃😉👍
I had one when I was younger, white and red, Australian model. All our YZ's were white. I had a new 1981 YZ 80H, I've restored two 125 E's, a 125 G, and a 465 G. Absolutely love these bikes. The one you have there is an amazing bike! Keep up the good work Kenny Sr and Jr.
The Euro YZ's were usually white too. USA got the yellow ones.
@@EarthSurferUSA yeah that's right, Australia got the same as Europe, in nearly all jap bikes.
Sounds sweet that engine just how it should be with no rattling going on write on the money
love the vintage bumble bee
My next store neighbor had 1978 YZ 250,he was my idiol because had a dirt bike in stock trim no body could ride it or race it for that matter unless they were Cyclepath like me but most of his friend most of them good riders the other half PROS....stock yz250 was too much u can hear this 125 how nice the power is not popping and pinging all over ready to hit without notice....I always liked those red and white Yamaha..s.it was a welcome change back then...
im way to big for that bike but it is very cool id still poke around on it
Priceless piece of UNOBTANIUM
It was for sale. :)
@@EarthSurferUSA Fuzzy Wuzzy was a woman!
Sick bike!I wish i had one....i put the same tank stickers on my '90 yz 250. They worked out well
Loved them decals.
Absolutely awesome! 👍
Would love to find one. My dad grew up on a 80 125g
I had a78 YZ 125 and it was a ripper it had illegal klots in the fuel when I got it. Man was it fast. I weighed 120 pounds so it was like there was nobody on it. Raced at all the Iowa tracks and then some. We all wanted to be like the Hurricane.
Why was Klotz oil illegal?
@@EarthSurferUSA I don’t know why everyone said it was illegal so when I ran the tank dry I never ran it again
Awesome vintage bike thanks for sharing , still have to give the bultaco 👍
Amazing sounding
Gorgeous and runs like a Beast!
Awesome.. I had the 1983 yz125 'K' Canadian model. Such a tough bike. I also had an 82 yz490. Then traded them both for a 1999 banshee.
Very pretty YZ 125 1980..!!!!!!!!!
Priceless
Aw MAN, I love that bike!! Yamaha rulz!
I had the yellow, I guess American version of that bike when I was a kid.
Thats one lovely YZ , the same as the European colours 👍
thats a good looking rippa!
That was a exelente year model. I rode one of those .faster than liquid cooled ...
Not after they got hot. Water cooling also allowed more performance engine work.
OMG, had to return as she was calling me 😊
Thing looks & runs good
Bikes a beauty
❤ vintage trial
Such a beautiful machine CHERRY
I LIKE!!!
Hey that's Ken from Kaplan computers.
Love the YZ” - she’s a screamer alright
I have one love it
У нас очень редкий мотоцикл!!!
230 with clothes on? 🤔
What do you wear lead boots?
I think that's a first I've heard that
said before. LOL 😂
You know I have a birthday coming up
in November & this sure would be 1
Bitchin' Happy Birthday to me!
Sweet bike Ken!
Reminds me very much of the 84'
YZ 80 I had only the seat was red.
You sure know how to pull a mans
Strings don't you Ken!
I bid on a few bikes on eBay of yours
but recently my password got hacked!
That tank looks almost metal but I know
that It couldn't be.
Sure is a clean machine & idles, runs
smooth. See if I can try my luck on
this one.
Depends on how much snacks i eat lol!!
That's a Jemco pipe. I have one on my YZ 100.
Ken is Heikki Mikkola
That bike is gorgeous...for anyone who races when u were able because of your high ranking position in modern two stroke days u could purchase front factory forks they were a mere ten grand easily surpassing the cost of a stockbike.but for any PRO or serious Amatuer the front forks are the most important part of a race bike because if u can't hold and operate the clutch and brakes and steer the bike in rough terrain at speed the best motor and rear shock ain't worth nothing. I think those forks were 2500dollars back in the 1978ish....new and so was the bike hah hah .THANKS
Forks were unobtainable for most then huh. That's wild!
@@DetroitFettyghost They are aftermarket Fox forks. I don't think the factory works bikes used them, but anybody else could.
The insert from the front brake cable guide fell out of the clip.
Is that the painted yellow tank
Looks like Canadian works yz 125. Zolo Berenyi, Kevin Ferguson, believe Ross Pederson rode first year as Yamaha rider. Couple BC riders also.
it is not a "works" bike. Nice bike though.
It's impossible to find?
Ken, what is your favorite pre-mix to use?
Castrol 927
@@KaplanCycles Maxima Castor 927. Yep, a good enough oil. But by actual durability dyno testing by some friends of mine on small high performance RC gas 2-stroke engines, they found the Motul Kart GP 2-t and the Klotz supertechiniplate to be their best choices so far. The 927 failed their resting faster, and they are not sure the Castor smell is not just "perfume". Klots shows 20% Castor in the mix on the bottle, and the 927 has no mention of it. Still, when I tore down engine using the 927, it was doing it's job for real world usage, (dyno is much harder on the engine. Testing was wide open at peak hp @ 16,000 rpm for a half hour straight.).
dude! lookin down at your rooster trails lol
Yea man, right after, and before,---diapers. :)
Why is the drive chain on the right?
1980 yz125 switched to right side drive train.
Drum brake and sprocket on right hand side of 125 only for this yer
Hi man i need know how much trail yamaha series another yz imean n dt etc , especiali engine ucha jakarta indonesia
Love that bike!! Is it still available if so at what price? MAGA 2024!!!
Careful, I believe rods are now in the unobtanium category.
I am sure you can find a cross over from another bike, maybe needing a bit of a mod,---and they can be made. I know that because man has been making them for a while. :)
What's the G mean .???
The letters were in sequence with the model year of the bike. I had the 1978 YZ100E and the 1979 YZ125F.
I thought that was Ronnie Mac for a second.
the red n white is cool but we all know paint dont stick to plastic worth a shit
The Euro bikes were white. USA got the yellow.
There were a few pro riders . Who rode 125 in the 500 class and win.
There were few pro races where 125's were on the same starting gate with 500's. MXofN races are all I can think of.
JUMP BIKE
Not a "works" bike Kap man. You know that. I think (not sure), most of the factory works bikes of that era, (which cost about 50 grand to build for factory riders), were lost to a trash compactor. But a nice modified bike with aftermarket parts. Nice bike.
Works Replica
Damn that thing is bad to the bone ken.
Ihad ever yz 125 in years 84 ex moto cross but deference
Yamaha's weren't white and red in Canada until 1982. I believe your bike is a euro model
Billet Footpegs...
As far as i know that 1980 yz is not a Canadian edition. First year was 1982. Someone made it. Not Yamaha.
Many people will only attribute “soul” or “personality” to American V twins.. that little bike has an attitude and it’s bad!
