Good launch compared to the R1. Also to all those who seem shocked you gotta remember the VFR comes off the line hard, if shouldn’t have much of a issue holding a R1 off til 80 mph, past that the R1 really shows it’s top end and by 150 it’s a bus length ahead (at least) the VFR’s are quick but it’s no sport bike, it’s a sport touring, it’s a different beast
I don't necessarily agree that the VFR800 is a sport touring. It's simply a sport bike. Not super sport - just sport. Even so... VFR quite literally stands for "V-Four Racing". The engine and bike have roots in Hondas racing program when 750cc's were the biggest class of bikes.

The bumpy road will have had significant impact on the R1's ability to get power down due to its stiffer suspension. Likewise a VFR is infamous for incredible traction partly due to its weight and softer setup. I can give my VFR pretty much everything its got in the wet, something I would be very hesitant to do on almost any other bike.

Yamaha R1 could change its ignition time from 90-180-270-180 to the ignition time of VFR 90-90-90-450, keeping same crossplane crankshaft. VFR800 has an amazing sound.
@@cromo7743because ignition timing and the crank offset are linked. sure you could go and change the ignition timing to whatever you want, you could have all 4 cylinders firing at the same time if you wanted! but that would never work because the cylinders would be in all the wrong places (ie midway through cycle) when they ignite. You change where the cylinder is by changing the crank offset, then you adjust the cam timing so that after bang there is exhaust valve opening then intake etc etc. You build an engine as a whole, you can’t change things like timing without doing other stuff like crank adjustment, and as cranks are normally single pieces, that’s a job really only the manufacturer can do - hence you don’t really see the regular guy changing their MT-07 from 270 degree crank to 315 etc
The vfr can go full throttle the whole time where the r1 is dancing like an exited child for 3 gears. It's weight works in its favor. Up until 140kmh the vfr is a superbike killer. After that, the r1 would have reeled the vfr in by a long shot.
