  • Let me share the traditional Japanese breakfast recipe my great grandma was eating 100 year's ago!
I grow up in Japanese family and my great grandma was living in next door. We often ate Japanese breakfast together. the Japanese breakfast she was eating is a lot different from what we enjoy in Japan nowadays.
It's based on fish, seaweed and vegetables. as you can imagine, it's way healthier than modernized Japanese breakfast on 2021!
I hope you will get some healthy eating inspirations!
Thank you very much for stopping by!

No wonder your grandmother lived so long! I really admire how she took care of her health and always made sure she looked nice even if she had nowhere to go. I think with the pandemic, many of us have been wearing pjs and sweatpants for too long.
My grandfather was Chinese and he also lived till his late 90’s. He was pescatarian, and would always drink one bowl of herbal soup before dinner. He would wake up at 5am every day and do Tai Chi. Your video reminded me a lot of my grandfather! Thank you!

It looks like the same foods we eat in the countryside with my grandma in the Philippines. We had a porridge cooked in Coconut milk. Added a little bit salt or cane sugar. Then, we had homemade made cacao chocolate drinks or homemade roasted rice or coffee. Or we had boiled Plantain, sweet potato, or Cassava. Eaten with broiled dried fish or fried dried fish. Sometimes, plain cooked rice with fried eggs.
Healthy breakfast made by grandma's in the morning.
Love Japanese cooking. Healthy organic foods.

This is awesome! Older Taiwanese also used to eat this way, I also learned to eat rice porridge in the morning. I usually do combinations of 香米, 芋香米, 糙米 or any brown rice, white rice, millet, wheat, and red&black rice, sometimes adding taro, pumpkin, sweet potato, water chestnuts, lotus root... this I've learned from old-fashioned Buddhist Taiwanese cooks. But my favourite is just plain fragrant brown rice, Taiwanese organic rice that smells like heaven! It feels so healthy and filling, especially in winter! I usually soak it in the rice cooker right before I sleep and turn it on as soon as I wake up, around 5, it cooks for 20 minutes or so then sits for an hour, and it's so creamy, doesn't feel like brown rice at all! Rice cooker is such a time saver! In summer it's too hot, so I've switched to regular fluffy rice or other foods like avocado toast, but I'm looking forward to going back to my Japanese/Taiwanese staples. Thank you for the inspiration! I will try it!

This is so lovely! When I lived in the same city as my parents, I would drive about an hour to their house every Sunday for brunch. They would cook a full American breakfast with fluffy scrambled eggs, bacon, etc. or Eggs Benedict. It was so delicious, but more than that, I loved being able to spend time with them. It was our special thing (I still enjoy it when I visit them during the year). This video reminds me of those times. Food brings us together and is the heart of a family.

I know this is off subject. There is a documentary, Kamome. It is about the tsunami that happen in Rikuzentakata Japan. A boat washed ashore in Crescent City few years later, that was from Japan. I used to live in Crescent City, Ca. The high school restored the boat and brought it back to Japan. It began a relationship between the two cities. It is a positive action from the horrible destruction of a tsunami.

Everything seems so delicate and prepared with care.
No rushing to add ingredients or items to the pot.
Everything has to wait until it's time.
This goes against the modern trend of rushing, seems we've all forgotten how to sit down to enjoy a meal, that's why it's so precious.
You must miss your grandmother when you sit down to enjoy this meal, I know I would.
