    I've noticed your dog always comes over and lays down when you start a lesson.
    It's like they know your filming, or maybe just thinks you're telling them a bed time story. lols

      If I talk a little too loud, my cats evacuate immediately but I can strum at full volume and they'll just hang out next to me. Animals may be more responsive to music than some of us might think.

    I saw an interview with Skunk Baxter. He said that he developed his “ca-chunka” style strum from playing by himself with no drummer. To him it added that element. The rest is history!

      I totally get that. I have played solo my whole life, I have a great syncopated rhythm because of it.

    I loved the Doobie Brothers with Tom Johnston. When he got sick and they brought in Michael McDonald it ruined the sound. Thanks so much for this lesson.

      Tom Johnson was great. Michael McDonald the silver fox ruined the sound 😮 🙈 I don’t think so, my opinion anyway.

      I disagree-both versions fabulous-the run of Doobie albums from Toulouse Street to Stampede is as good as any band at that time and better than most although I think the formula was wearing. a bit thin.Taking it to the Streets was a great transitional album with the introduction of McDonald-Minute by Minute is an ab solute stormer -completely different but high quality throughout.What i would say is that the one constant is Pat Simmonds who for me is a world class musician and composer- as well as the obvious Black water we get Clear as the Driven Snow-South City Midnight Lady-I cheat the hangman etc etc-all unique-and what a guitar player.

    • @SuperOlderfart
      @SuperOlderfart Před 10 měsíci +2

      @moose6676 Everyone has an opinion but the sound of the Doobie Brothers was ruined when Tom left. China Grove, Listen to the Music, and Long Train Running is the Doobie Brothers. I met Michael McDonald in St Louis and had a few drinks and takes with him. I told him I loved his music but it just wasn't the sound of the Doobie Brothers. He agreed. 9 billion people can say they thought Michael McDonald was great. Doesn't change the fact he changed the sound of the Doobie Brothers. Personally, it is like replacing Jimmy Buffet with Queen! Just doesn't have the same sound.

    Apparently they used to play this as a jam song at nightclubs. Their producer Ted Templeman, suggested adding words, so Tom did that and voila. Great tune.

    Great tutorial ! Very detailed :)
    Only thing that could confuse people is your rhythm example at 6.12. You are using three down strokes which could could confuse people (may be because you try to only on the rhythm). In order to be able to play this (very cool :)) Cm7 part, it is crucial to play down -up - down strokes when the chord rings. This creates a very even 8th note rhythm, with the chord only ringing on the first (down), fourth (up) and seventh (down) stroke You do play this correctly of course in all the normal tempo examples ;)

    I'm curious and trying to learn. During the Cm7, Cm6 part, after the 2 down strokes, why do you "hang" at the bottom and start the triplets with an upstroke? Why not use that extra time after the 2nd down stroke to come to the top and start the triplets from the down stroke? Thanks.
