    My family currently does k12 but I want to homeschool them the "traditional" way. I fear that I won't teach them enough or that I don't know enough to teach them on my own. It pains me because I want what's best for my kids and I want them to be able to do anything they want in life.

    I think a lot of my fears were about what others would think of me, especially because I used to be a teacher. Now, I feel very validated by the fact that I used to teach :) It all came full circle.

    At the risk of sounding shallow/not confidant in my own choices....a fear I had was, what will my friends/family think?! I’m so happy to report that they have been supportive.

    I know that you made this video a while ago. But im just listening to it for the first time. I am a stay at home mom with two older kids in public school, one at home and one on the way. Before a couple weeks ago I never really thought about home schooling. I thought it was interesting but never really thought it was for me and my kids. Some how God has opened my heart on maybe doing this. What you have said in this video brought me to tears and has confirmed what I am feeling in my heart. Thank you for sharing, it really meant a lot.

    We start officially homeschooling next week and my kindergartner doesn’t even know his ABC’s I feel like I’ve already failed. I ordered master books for my second grader earlier this week. My kids fight constantly (we have 4 also) and the thought of homeschooling on top of that it’s overwhelming and terrifying me. I’ve been watching a lot of your videos nonstop for the last few days so thank you for making them

      Oh, Heidi! I recently started homeschooling! It's been wonderful. Let me reassure you that you don't have to have it all figured out right away. You'll learn quickly what works for your family and can accommodate around what will work well for all of you. And your personality will be a blessing!!!

    Yes!! All of this!! We have 3 kids (15, 12, & 9). Our oldest is doing really well in PS (negative surroundings are yuck, but he is handling well, thank God, and honestly fits that school mold they teach to. He does NOT want to either.). We are praying through the possibility of HS-ing my middle son, and possibly my daughter after elementary (one more year). Both of these bottom 2 have learning struggles, our daughter more so as she has a trauma history. I tell you this because both of these kiddos are what we like to call "passionate", and our daughter "passionately argumentative"... SO much push back with homework and really just most things! 1) Do you have a struggling learner? If yes, how has that gone for you? 2) Do you have a strong-willed child? If yes, I'd love to hear how you have handled this and found success? Thank you for sharing your life!! VERY helpful! God bless! - T

    Very encouraging video! I started homeschooling my oldest daughter from the beginning (Kinder, never was very much for structured preschool) and my biggest tip if your reading the comments would be to pray about it. I prayed for about a year before my oldest had to start school. Give it to the Lord. :)

    I'm starting homeschool in July.
    There is a christian radio station in Houston called KSBJ. A lady,sorry, I don't know her name, was having a conference...which, I did not attend, but she said in her advertisment. "What if I decided to live 1 year without fear and just see where it gets me.". Just this one little line was so instrumental to nudge me to make this decision. I definitely have mega fears, some the same some different....a just have one child, but sometimes that can be challenging because she is so close to me, becoming a pre teen at 9, and can be opisitional. But, guess what? I used to be a church youth director and I taught every grade plus special Ed., substitute teaching. I wrote the following down on my "reasons for homeschooling " and posted in the wall. I feel called by God to do this, and he has been preparing me my whole life to do it, so I can do this!"

    Thank you. I’ve been feeling the nudge for 5 years... (I know I know.... it’s taken me a long time to answer). My biggest fear is that they miss out and I feel guilty that the won’t have those school performances, go to the swimming carnival, and all of those fun things. It still is playing on my mind. I don’t want my children to resent me for taking them out of school. But I know there are so many memories and amazing experiences to have together.

    My biggest fear is getting burnt out. I work from home about 5 hours a day. My job is flexible and I can do almost any of it at any point in the day, but I'm worried I won't be able to do it all. We are also expecting baby #6 in late October, which adds an extra level of stress. I feel so very strongly called to do this, but I am so worried I wont' be able to do it all. I keep telling myself that if God brought me to it, he will get me through it. And if I'm being completely honest, for the most part, I love my kids' school - I've had 4 out of 5 kids go there now, and I have a relationship with almost all of the teachers there, including several on Facebook. I am worried what they will think. Yes, I know - don't worry about what others think, but I'm human and I like these teachers and respect them so much - I'm worried they will take it personally, you know? Ughhh... I'm almost certain I will homeschool this fall, but the fear is real, y'all. Tips from mamas that homeschool and work would be awesome! (do you still do personal training? What are your hours with that and how do you fit it all in??)

    I admire you! I home-school one child, and it can be challenging because I also deal with chronic illness, but HATS OFF to you for homeschooling 4. Question: What time of day do you do your videos? It's so quiet. Is it early in the morning or late at night? Observation: When it comes to math, remember that kids all have their way of learning this topic. There are some crazy methods these days, but I always go back to the method that I learned, and I found that my son also found this method easy, rather than the steps that may be laid out in the curriculum. You can do this! Yes, God has chosen you for this journey, and the kids are being blessed by having you as their mom and being home with them. I only home-schooled my last one, and in hindsight I wish I had done it for the other two as well, but the situation was different then ( for lack of getting into a long story). Keep up the great work. I enjoy your videos and I've learned a lot from you.

    I am considering homeschooling. My oldest is 4 right now. I taught school for 8 years but still have the fears that you mentioned. My son is very strong willed so I also have a fear that it would be a constant struggle to get him to do his work since he would feel comfortable in his home environment, not like being at "school". Any thoughts on this? Thanks for sharing this video!

    • @GraceandGrit
      @GraceandGrit  Před 6 lety +1

      J Hullender ahh yes, I definitely understand that fear, and it is true kids are more comfortable at home... (of course we want that), so you may get some kick back, but I think just communicating and setting up a system that works for you as far as consequences will help sort that out.
