    Behold, my first recording of the year. So, a little bit of background...my original plan was to record a 2001 from a distance. The dim sky and moody rain would make for a great shot. 6PM rolls around and I hear nothing from the scanner. Siren tests are rarely cancelled unless severe weather is expected. So I waited and waited, and...still nothing. At this point, everything is soaking wet. Time to pack, they probably cancelled. My dad snagged along and helped me get everything back into the car to dry. I kept my scanner on just in case. As we were leaving, dispatch announced they were about to conduct the siren test. I didn't have time to grab my camera, so I whipped my phone out instead and this video is the result. I'm guessing dispatch was just super busy that night.
    Apologies for the guerilla-style videography. Thankfully my phone's internal stabilization helped smooth out some of the shake. Other than that, the siren ambience turned out great. If you watch my last "drive-by" siren recording, you'll notice that the Model 7 is back in business. The rain and dim lighting also gave a cool storm chasing vibe as well. I might need to try another one like this again.
    Sirens in Dubois County are tested on the first day of each month at 6PM, with the exception of Jasper which tests at 4PM.
    Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

    Being half a mile between a 2001-SRN AND a Model 7 is unbelievable. The fact that you were underneath it was insane, it must have been LOUD.

    Here in Central Arkansas, it is forbidden to test sirens during the rain and nighttime because they do not want people to think a Tornado is coming.

    A nighttime test in the rain! That’s gotta be crazy rare since practically all towns only test during the daytime, and a majority of towns will only test if the weather is clear.

    I really liked this video! Seeing a postponed siren test conducted at 6pm during a rainstorm is awesome! My county wouldn’t have tested it at 6 and during a storm tho. Instead they would postpone it until the weather clears and they would NEVER test sirens at night unless the weather was severe enough to activate them and call it a severe thunderstorm but they rarely activate them during thunderstorms unless tornadoes are somewhat possible. Harrison County usually only activates them during storms when tornadoes are either somewhat likely, expected, etc but unless a tornado watch/warning isn’t brought up whether it would be later on in the day or very very soon, they won’t sound any alarms. So basically only if the word “tornado” and “Harrison County” is mentioned they’ll activate the sirens (but when the storms hit) and I haven’t heard a single siren in Harrison County activate during a storm since July 2018 when tornadoes spawned everywhere in the area and the weather was just “😟😬”
    Edit: My county (Harrison) tests every first Saturday of every month at 12:00 could you visit New Middletown, Indiana and film the 2001-130 on New Middletown-Elizabeth Road on the property of New Middletown Volunteer Fire Department? Thanks XD

    • @DSRX100
      @DSRX100  Před 2 lety +1

      That's good to know, I've been thinking of stopping by Harrison County for storm/siren chasing if a severe storm is approaching. Dubois County always tests the sirens at 6PM, so it's not too unusual for night time tests here during the winter. There's a few other places near here that test late as well. It's not exactly rare. South Spencer County is a night time tester, same with Bloomington, Indiana and Dearborn County which test an hour later.

      @DSRX100  Před 2 lety +1
