- As Derwin Davis, Pooch Hall nailed the role as the football wide receiver on “The Game,” and fans were instantly drawn to the storyline of his tumultuous career and his relationship with Tia Mowry’s character, Melanie Barnett.
BET had a good thing going, but in, May 2012, they announced Pooch wouldn’t be returning to the show. At first, it sounded like an amicable business decision, but that wasn’t the case. Following his departure, Pooch’s life went into a downward spiral, and he accused BET of shutting him out of opportunities.

Truth once they left I dropped the show. Especially how they did Tia Morwy where she was pregnant in real life and made her character not go through pregnancy. After the 5th Season it felt like they did Pooch and Tia dirty just in my opinion

I remember watching Tia and Tamera reality show and she said she wasn’t going back to the game because they want to cut her character from main character to just a reoccurring role and she was like no she made the right decision. Her and Pooch deserved a raise cause they carried that show. People was watching for Derwin and Med School.

Yes it felt like it turned into a soap opera once it went to BET and it couldn't have been the same writers because it wasn't as funny to me. I gave up on it after a while as I didn't care about the new characters and it just wasn't the same without Med school and Derwin Ding Dong Davis lol smh.

That experience had an impact on his life at that period..I remember when it first came out I was shocked and furious. Thank God he had gotten out of that hell hole and haven't been through anything like that since. I will always love Pooh Hall. He was my husband and nobody could tell me differently. Besides The Game I love him Jumping The Broom, Ray Donavon and this made for DVD movie called "My First Love" with his co star from The Game" Danielle if haven't heard of it, I suggest you check it out. Really Good movie!

Honestly, I'm more shocked and concerned about the part of him driving drunk with his 2 yrs old child in his lap that resulted in a car accident than I am to any degree caring or shocked about BET blacklisting him. 😲😟
The Game was a great show and I was a huge fan of it. But it wasn't and hasn't been the same since it left it's original network CW. And it will never be the same without the Pooch and Tia as Derwin & Mel.
Especially since the original idea of the show was built around them as the two main characters because the show was intended to be a spin off of Girlfriends with Mel as Joans little niece or cousin.
I can't recall the relation but I remember distinctly that's how the original concept of the show started and it was brilliant. Then it just went down hill from there when it moved to BET. And it hasn't been as good as the CW version with Mel and Derwin since.
Thank goodness he didn't fall asleep at the wheel, should've had a designated driver or called Uber.
You got it, Melanie was Joan's cousin in medical school. Also, Derwin wasn't originally played by Pooch. He was played by a guy who, ironically, played Lynn's brother in a different episode of Girlfriends. Lol.
As far as the accident, it seems like it's extremely downplayed which is kinda concerning, actually. For DCF to make it an isolated case is even more concerning, but hey, it's not my business.

I loved him on Ray Donavon. Let’s be honest; when he left the game, nothing was the same. I don’t even remember who was there after him cuz it was too many people coming in and out. When someone does me wrong; I leave them to time & god. At this point; who still watches B.E.T. At the last awards they used 90% black influencers that nobody even knew as seat fillers. B.E.T IS NOT IT…. Now they’re begging ppl to come to and watch the awards show. He will be fine !

We can't keep selling out to people to the highest bidder because we are too lazy to deal with all the other technicalities of owning a network if advertisement agencies don't want to deal with us then maybe we shouldn't buy their food you know it's always a quid pro quo when it comes to having these type of platforms. I am not shocked with the way BET did Pooch. But, I am REALLY glad he did not allow that to limit him from going after his role on Ray Donovan. I know several men who watched that show faithfully, and even caught a few episodes of it myself. Ya'll classy for leaving out the fact that he admitted to being molested when he was young, but I'm going to mention it because i am always inspired by people who find the strength to move forward in their lives, despite enduring such trauma at an early age, and even more inspired by men who have the courage to admit. Definitely want to see him continue to win. Prayers up for him and his healing!!

I don’t know why everyone acts so shocked when they see these shows crash and burn and hear about the actors/actresses get black balled. The entertainment business isn’t for the weak that’s why it’s not for everybody. You always hear of actors say there was times they had to borrow money or fire their team because it costs alot. It’s not always because they’re bad at handling finances, they don’t get paid a lot or it’s hard getting good paying acting jobs. IT IS ASHAME THAT he was treated that way and was possibly drinking due to depression and feelings of betrayal. In this world today we can never get too comfortable and trust everyone we meet especially in Helly-wood (Hollywood). But he is an excellent actor and I saw him on a movie on NETFLIX and again I was not disappointed he NAILED THE ROLE!
Whether Pooch Hall would have done that movie Donovan / Ray Donovan what is called or not BET, others/ networks still could have done him wrong!!!!!/ Have an back - up plan (s) just my own personal opinions, some things is not always in the bag/ guaranteed !!!!!/ etc.....
Loved watching him in BOTH the Game and Ray Donovan. He is a good actor.
The Game was our favorite show. So in short, because BET was long on negotiations to the point Pooch had to search for another gig, they spite him afterwards. When he and Melanie returned briefly to the show I knew something was wrong with him as far as drugs or food goes because he was wayyyy out of shape and had a huge belly and looked way aged in the face. I spot these things from a mile away. Hopes he's doing good though and managing his money properly.

I remember that was my go to show, back in the days, when they had I believe their last 2 seasons with the new guy and new girl played by Lauren London, I tried to really watch it but just couldn't get into it. Derwin and Melanie made that show, and were the King and Queen of that show.
The fact that he went back years later to BET shows he didn’t care how he was treated.

I only stuck around BET when The Game’s original cast was on. Can’t say that the network’s kept my attention overtime though. RRG’s better than BET for the record. Your informative breakdowns, blunt yet compassionate humor is why I binge watch this channel, which is more than I could say about BET (and people pay for that with their cable bill).

That entire cast of, The Game, was enjoyable to watch, especially, Tasha Mac. Being famous appears to have a lot of effects on so many people & Pooch seems to be an endearing person. Many more blessing him.

The first 3 seasons are the best without a doubt but season 5 is very underrated. I feel like the series got back to its roots and was back to being funny. I was just so invested in season 5

I am not surprised at what BET did. It wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last. They tend to be a bit hypocritical. They want the type of loyalty that they are not willing to show. Then they’re just like everyone else in Hollywood; “it’s just business”. Other actors & actresses have recounted similar experiences with that network. It’s so sad and disappointing. They demand your loyalty but kick you to curb if you’re not as “profitable” as you used to be.

Staying committed to only 1 thing while you’re an up and coming (or even an established) artist can be career suicide. Acting in Hollywood is give and take because one moment you can be at the top of your game, and the next you’re struggling looking for a gig. It’s disrespectful for a network to do that to an actor if it is true. In Pooch’s case, he was going to continue loyalty to BET and even had a flex schedule in place, but they shunned him. Any other network would’ve been so happy and made him part of the family for that type of loyalty. I hope for the best for Hall on and off the screen.
I loved The Game when it first came to the CW. It was funny, the writing was good, and above everything else they had the best casting. Each actor made their character come to life.
Forget how bet treated him. He was a pos for putting his son in danger like that.

Another good one, you guys never disappoint! That show was ALL that. And I have to admit, when the characters Derwin and Melanie left, I stopped watching.
He was doing the most... I watch the series for a bit but became really tired of it. It became so ridiculous.... Plus other issues I saw the underlying
I loved him on both shows! I definitely stopped watching the Game after Pooch and Tia left the show. I loved the family dynamic and antics that happened on Ray Donovan

I am shocked how BET treated him. He was one of the stars of the show! He was a very good actor and I pray that he gets his addiction under control and his career. I wish him and his family the best.
I think it’s messed up how they treated Pooch because that in turn messed up Tia. She decided not to come back because her character was being reduced based off of Pooch booking a new role elsewhere,not knowing he was able to do both. Tia was like either I’m a regular or nothing at all.
In life loyalty is very rare cause people often don't care about what's in your best interest
Companies get mad when they get “surprised” by you. They don’t trust you anymore. But they do what they want to do.
Them getting rid of Melanie and derwin was weird to begin with since they were the main character
A lot of stations namely Fox and CWB build their stations on shows like this then abandon those shows for something like 90210.
