  • Herter Community Garden is located on the Charles River in Herter Park, Allston/Brighton, Boston. It has been organic since 1976. The Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) recently announced a Herter Park Master Plan that would destroy this garden and replace it with a lawn. Help us save the garden! Western Mass is helping you fight to keep your vital gardens from becoming a lawn. Northampton Community Gardeners are signing your petition and writing to the DCR.

I just signed the petition to save this community garden. I lived in Brighton, MA for five years and remember this beautiful, incredibly special garden space! Much more than growing food happens in a garden. It is a vital, so very needed community asset. I hope everyone will be able to stay and to continue to enjoy its benefits for many years!

Love these stories, thank you for sharing. This garden has always been a beautiful constant in an endlessly changing area that seems only to prioritize certain groups of people. I hope all the petition signatures and emails have convinced the DCR that they can simply find another spot for their "picnic area"
