Hike was really way ahead of time. So many features, too many stickers, payments, etc.
The problem was with marketing.

You are right but one cannot predict the future of any start up on the basis of it's idea or plan bcz who knows Mngt. Of start up is capable to execute their plans effectively or not. Beside that their are many external factors such as Covid, last year many start ups were shut down due to Covid only.

It was not when it removed story. It was when it removed timeline and introduced story. I remember that exact update before which I had hundreds of Friends in Hike but after that only in 10s were left.

Well personal chat is basically hidden chat, there is no need to complicate things, you complicate things, the consumer gets confused and if he/she cant grasp it, they leave.

On top of it Hike introduced audio and video calling features, way before WhatsApp did. You should have researched more.

Good Analysis. It looks like Hike was ahead of its time and complicated the product. Keep it simple & light , grab the customers and keep improving. That is the mantra. It is unfortunate that they couldn't capitalize on Airtel's huge 300m plus base! .

@@garimachauhan1202 frankly speaking i think its just consumer behavior which is keeping whatsapp ahead in the race. People are so used to it they don't wamt to switch to other platform. Like i am using both tgram and wsapp. many people accepted their privacy policy just because they dont want there acc deleted. But we can't ignore the fact this isn't constant.

Gosh, this triggered me. I still have not uninstalled Hike. It was exactly what I needed.
I don't think target age group was the reason for failure it was a very clever move to target a more engaging audience but the problem according to me was that it didn't had that appeal to people which would make it stand out and make people switch to it . Like Instagram and Snapchat has there filters and story features etc.

As far as I remember in 2015-16 before jio came hike was offering 40Rs to the new user and 20Rs to the user who referred him. Which was also the reason of their user base my people including me and my friends joined hike because of that 😅😅
Selective targeting was not reason, it's even good to focus at one point then leads to diversification

Hike was a stellar messaging app which couldn't compete Whatsapp. I hope it's codes are still alive and other company can take a shot at it!
It failed only because WhatsApp was already there, and it has nothing more new to offer than a few stickers and funny stuff.
People never shift used to things unless and until there are some big benefits.

None of my friend use it for chatting, just made account no one used but beacuase of space issue due to unnecessary whatsapp forward every one Uninstalled it and we just forgot it . How good the app is user base is equally important specially in chat based apps. I sometimes forced them to move to it , but anyways waiting for more cool tech from your side
