This is my first day in Latvia’s capital Riga and I’m stoked to be here! I’ll start the vlog by showing you my £42 per night hotel room at the Monte Kristo which is located on the southern edge of the old town. I stayed here for four nights using it as a base to explore the city and beyond!
To start things off I took a short walk over to the 123 metre tall St. Peter's Church (Rīgas Svētā Pētera baznīca) which is a 15th century medieval church topped with a magnificent steeple. I visited the interior and then caught a very modern looking lift to the observation deck way up in the bell tower. It was incredible to look out over the old town of Riga and see some of the places I’d be exploring over the next few days.
After making it back down to street level I walked past some pretty architecture including a traditional Latvian house and a magnificent Ukrainian church. I walked around the outside of Riga Castle (Rīgas pils) which is where you’ll find some luxurious presidential apartments and a history museum.
As I made my way down to the banks of the Daugava River I enjoyed a relaxing walk over to the west side and then along to the huge Latvian flagpole (Latvijas karogs) where I flew my drone and admired many of the areas intriguing buildings including the Swedbank centrālā ēka and the Vanšu Bridge (Vanšu tilts) which is a cable-stayed design completed in 1981.

Great hotel for a home base. hats St. Peter's Church looks impressive. Love the traditional attire. Tell that boat to slow down!
All set up for a bit of exploring, just the way I like it!
Riga looks impressive. The old town is very quaint and colourful. St Peter's is stunning. I really liked the national dress. Great views from the bell tower. We loved your drone shots. Great info too. Cheers 🍻
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed my little tour of Riga!
Hi Matt. Once again, good to see what the hotel rooms look like. I am convinced that the Baltic countries are good value for money. What a view from above, zeppelin hangars, roof tops, the array of colours, not to forget the interior of the cathedral that was rebuilt. This clip def looks like it would be in Aug/ Sept, probably a good time of year to visit with long days and probably not as hot as further south. Thanks again. Zoltán
Thanks Zoltán, glad you're continuing to enjoy the videos. Yes I'd say they are good value for money, there's definitely a few deals to be had as well. Great guess with the time of year - it was filmed in September!
Welcome to Latvia! I hope you enjoyed your stay at my native country! :)
Thank you! Wonderful place, enjoying it! 😀
Fantastic camera work Matt 👏 👌
Thank you!! 😁
At 2:09 it's not Ukrainian church , it's Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church of Riga . Built in 1785. and rebuilt in 1860.
Thanks for the info. It’s a beautiful church!
Great video, what drone did you use, I'm going there on Friday and was thinking about taking my mini 3 pro, but want sure about flight rules, we're actually stressing in the same hotel as yourself, looking forward to it
Hello there, I used a Mavic Air to get the drone shots. Working out the rules when I visit other countries can be quite a challenge. I usually use this resource --> uavcoach.com/drone-laws-in-latvia . Hope it helps and I hope you have a great time, what a coincidence we're staying at the same hotel! Great location.
