    Funny you mention it sounding better when going up the frets because in traditional turkish music the microtones are actually used that way.
    When going up in pitch you use the microtones more often than going down, cause the microtones add tension to the music and thats what you want when going up. When going down you ususally want to do the opposite.

      Very interesting to hear. I have spent more time lately listening to different musicians playing Baglama, and learning what I can by ear from phrases that catch my ear, so I guess this is helping. I think I will soon try adding in extra frets to an electric guitar to have the microtones as well.
