“Yet with a Steady Beat." All Episcopalians and those who attend this service, remember the significance of the history surrounding the ordination of the Rev. Absalom Jones and the development of his congregation, the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas, and the subsequent establishment of historically Black parishes in the Diocese. At this service, Jones' legacy is taught, understood, recognized, and celebrated among all members of the Diocese of Pennsylvania. Bishop Gutiérrez is the celebrant for this service and the Rev. Dr. Mark Jefferson is the preacher. You can donate for this service here: bit.ly/3oI3R6U

I was confirmed at Saint Barnabas Protestant Episcopal Church when I was 13. I was steered to use my church vote to vote for the merger and expansion of our church with the Caucasian high Episcopal Church with nuns where I knew a high school classmate who was it member there. But I felt like I wanted to vote along with the one man who had the only dissenting vote to maintain the status quo so that black and mulatto Afro Americans could retain their own Episcopal Church in northwest Philadelphia rather than merging with one of the five Caucasian Episcopal Churches in northwest Philadelphia.😮😮
