We're getting loads of info about your lessons learned every few seconds, and it's great that you go into the details. I really hope A-10 II breathes more life into this project, as it seems to have already done.

Awesome content. Another way to get a metal effect is to use silver Duct tape. That is made out of aluminium sheeting. Simply cover all of your 3D printed parts with it before painting, then scuff up the wear with scotch bright or steel wool. the paint will rub off exposing the metal below.

Coming along. Ordered a K40 laser and a 3d printer last week and I'll spend time practicing the techniques to put together these panels over Christmas. The electrical and programming is the easy part for me since I'm a programmer (and experienced with Arduino and PCB design), but there's some practical practice I need to get in for the actual build.

Cheers! I use Rustoleum 2X Grey Primer, and Rustoleum 2X Flat Black. For the 3D prints, don't be afraid to spray the primer very heavy and very wet, then sand and repeat. I also use Tamiya filler putty for the joins between printed parts. Weathering is just simple dry brusing with some Tamiya satin aluminium. It's basically just model aircraft making, at 1:1 scale!

I do wonder if ever you want to do one step further and to actually project the HUD elements to your little plexiglass screen. Would that be possible with the current implementation of DCS? I'd imagine some calibration would be required and getting a compatible HUD projector would be very difficult, if not impossible.

I have had a similar idea for making a button panel as you have shown in this video and it might be obvious, but are your buttons made of two pieces of acrylic? (the top piece sized down from the bottom so that the button is retained within the faceplate).
hope that makes sense. hard to tell in the video I'd the buttons themselves are indeed 2 pieces bonded together.

There is a company called Edmund Optics by me that has the ability to coat a piece of large glass with a Notch Filter (As close as you can get to the other types of coatings normally used) but my god is it expensive. You can edit the DCS lua to stop that- however it's much easier to program all your switches using other software- helios- rather than binding it all in DCS. That software runs the gauges, but it also binds every switch. Link is in the description FAQ section.

I'm now looking at starting to construct the F16 IPC(UFC) and starting to collect components(Switches/Potentiometers) being an absolute newbie to electronics I'm trying to get my head around all the different specs of potentiometers & resistors. Do you have any kind of list you have compiled with component details/types to use. Also regarding wiring of switches using a matrix is there a set way of doing this for different types of controllers(I'm using mainly the Arduino Pro Micro) or is it a common way for all types?. Cheers.
