Xu Xin is top 3 players in the world, and yet he might not make it into the Olympics thanks to stupid ITTF rules. We want to see the best athletes to compete in the Olympics regardless of their nationality. That's the spirit of the Olympics. The ITTF shamelessly attempts to change the outcome of the Olympics games in the name of generating more interest in table-tennis if the Chinese don't win.
Under this kind of rule, even when a non-Chinese athlete wins in the Olympics, it's still a cheap win. Medals matter, but setting up rules in such a way that a top 3 world player might not even make it in the Olympics is just pure stupidity.
+Le TDD If a top 3 player in the world cannot compete in Olympics per rules, that's more depressing. Because that tells that our values are all about winning medals and a narrow sense of nationalism. In that case, the spirit of Olympics, which is about sportsmanship and the pure pursuit of excellence, is lost to nationalistic egos.
And no, I am not depressed when the semis are filled with Chinese. That means the rest of the world needs to get better and learn from the Chinese. I am sure the Asians were not depressed when the men 100 meters were dominated by non-Asians. Instead, they learned and improved.
For me, the Olympics should be a stage that recognizes athletes based on pure talents regardless of nationality. If you believe in medals so much, go compete in the national level or even in the European league. But don't let cheap-win medals delude yourself in the Olympics - the most sacred arena for professional athletes.

+Le TDD A few years ago, when Gabor Gergely was asked why the Hungarian Men's Team of him, Tibor Klampár, and Istvan Jonyer could beat the Chinese TWICE in the 1979 Pyongyang Worlds, he said one of the main reasons was the amount of training the Hungarians had had. They trained 6.5 to 7 hours a day, everyday, day in and day out. He said now European players do not train nearly that much any more. But the Chinese do.
+Vincent Theo Could you elaborate on what rules? Tried googling it but couldnt find any. yet im intrigued how they possibly could prohibit a top 3 player from participating. Olympics isnt charity.
+Le TDD And yet, Brazil isn't banned from using one of their top three players in the national team when competing at the World Championships. I completely agree with Vincent Theo on this one. YES, the world HAS to learn from the Chinese. Instead of imperialistically changing the rules in your favour, dedicate yourself to create European players of world class. Truls Möregårdh is one of those hopes. One nation's domination is apparently mostly a problem when it's a non-Western one. /Swede

XX has got the best touch to the ball among all penholder players in Chinese tt history as per his national coach comment. He has recently improved his RPB a lot but still not quiet enough. If he can manage to take his RPB to a new
level, which he's very close to, he will be unstoppable - probably the best penholder player ever in world tt history.
Seriously, Xu is really a funny guy, a man really enjoys the game in that fierce competition. Besides, he is also hilarious in ordinary life!!!

Yes, thats the reason ittf exists. Ittf likes to make stupid rules, deprive of the reward only for breaking some fenses, and use skype while making the videos.
