    08:00 That pin would just be a key stop. Dimple keys usually don't have a shoulder stop (Mul-T-Lock's don't for example) and rely on something at the back of the core to limit the depth of insertion... with Mul-T-Lock when you remove the tail piece the key can be pushed in further than they're supposed to and end up not operating properly.

      Nitrxgen new to learning how licks work although I can pick basic 5 pin no security easily enough but could the press fit pin also be an attempt at disabling bypassing or no?

    Being a few months into the picking hobby, I've been shying away from dimple locks, just for the fact that they looked complicated, and I was fairly familiar with the standard pin tumbler locks... guess they arent ALL that different, but I think I will leave those to the pro's until I am feeling a little more "advanced" with the pin tumblers. Still very interesting! I could see that slogan on a new LockLab shirt, "I don't make ' em, I just pick 'em"

    Really enjoy the videos Bill. I just got into lock picking a couple weeks ago and all i’ve learned so far has been through your videos. Also wanted to bring to your attention that MadBobs just came out with a new set called “Paragon”. Looks different than their other sets. Would love to see a review for that in the next year it takes to be delivered.

    My thoughts on the anti drill at the back would be if they drill it and catch that pin and snap the drill bit off that far in, they would be screwed. No retrieving it then.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  Před 6 lety

      Makes sense but by the time you reach that rod with your drill, the shearline is clear and you can turn the core with your screwdriver. I think the other's are right, it is there to restrict how deep the key can be inserted AND to prevent bypass drivers from accessing the actuator.

    This video is great. I think BosnianBill could have opened it in seconds by using and showing how to rake these locks. I purchased one of these locks as a picking-training lock, and not yet opened the package. I'm a little flumoxed as to how they actually work. Regards. U.K.

  • @rogerturley5736

    I believe the pin in back is anti-bypass and key stop.

      Sorry man, I used someone's recommended settings and think YT's upload compression algorithm might not have liked it...🙁

    • @DooMMasteR
      @DooMMasteR Před 6 lety +3

      hm that sucks
      but there is nothing wrong with uploading raw PCM audio (if you are not short on bandwidth/time) anything else is a compromise.
      google encodes to OPUS for WebM/VP9 and AAC for MP4/h.264 so you cannot upload in a all native format.
      Using PCM gives youtube the raw and uncompressed audio which is in many ways the best option. 44.1 kHz and all above are just fine.

    • @joshhoover1202
      @joshhoover1202 Před 6 lety +3

      DooMMasteR Honestly if you can understand what he says clearly and hear the lock clicking when the pins set there isn't really a huge reason to give Bill so much grief over the audio.

    • @DooMMasteR
      @DooMMasteR Před 6 lety +3

      Josh Hoover I was not blaming anyone for anything... Just giving a hint to the fact that using special settings is pretty dumb because CZcams will ignore it pretty much anyways.

    Pretty soft to pick those inner pins it looks like. I will give me a go on a dimple lock soon✌🏼️
    Have tried to get à feeling from your videos, and i got me a couple of Kaba pimlelocks (without Keyes I may add) and are working on that flag pretty soon i hope😏🔓
    I have the Goso pick set and are really have had a different view of them after I saw your video about them.
    So hope to find some of those picks you advices us about. Just buy good picks and just a few👍🏼🕉

  • @dustysparks
    @dustysparks Před 6 lety +1

    Is it just me or did there appear to be little to no variation on the outer key pins? I get that the lock is stock from the factory, but it didn't look like it had any difference in the outer key pins at all. The inner pins I see some variation, like the first inner pin is much longer than the second or the 5th inner pins.

    Ok so my first attempt to make the bogota did not work, I was able to pick several locks with paperclips but my new picks are not working I may need to shave my tension wrench I think it may be to fat, I am feeling the tumblers set but the wrench is binding and then the core resets, I will keep you posted on my progress and again if you have any advice please help a new guy to the picking community out, I watch your vids and try but I don’t have the gear yet thanks for the awesome content bill

  • @SilktheAbsent1
    @SilktheAbsent1 Před 3 lety

    I do have a couple of questions. Is the keyway the same as what Mul-t-Lock uses? Also, are the pins the same diameter? The Kenaurd kik cylinders are dirt cheap, and if you already have a Mul-t-Lock mortice cylinder, and a padlock that takes kik cylinders, it seems to me that it could be a viable way to make a decent upgrade by swapping the Mul-t-Lock pins into the Kenaurd cylinder and putting it into the padlock.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks for reaching out, lifelessdead89! I'm not a locksmith but know and work with a number of them. Almost to a T, they are creative, hard working, honest people that get a lot of satisfaction from their work. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of dedication to be a locksmith because there is MUCH more to it than just picking locks. My impression is that they are good with people, outgoing, well spoken, and knowledgeable in a number of areas (installation, repairs, fire codes & exit regulations, cars, commercial locking systems, etc, etc.) I can only imagine that it would be a very challenging field because things are changing so rapidly in the security business. For required training and experience you should check with a local locksmith because the State requirements vary widely from State to State. Good luck. Oh yeah, when you make it big please send me all your extra “weird” locks so I can make videos about them.

    • @um5785
      @um5785 Před 6 lety

      Josh Butler watch makers have specific tools todemagnatise tweesers, and other tools like small screwdrivers. I find that it is helpful to have both magnetic and nonmagnetic tweesers and screwdrivers, but hat does add to the number of small tools I have around....

      @Nitrxgen Před 6 lety +1

      I believe you can heat metal to a high temperature which messes up the dipoles (this creates a magnetic field) so if you have a blowtorch or something, try heating it up without melting it. Same applies to actual magnets, heat them up and they lose most if not all magnetic fields. Metals will become magnetised again when exposed to a strong magnet as expected.

    How do you open a door that the latch does not work

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  Před 6 lety

      It is hard to answer questions like this unless you include a LOT more detail. What kind of lock IS it? Why does the latch not work? How was it broken? Is the key broken off inside the keyway? How is it mounted on the door? etc, etc. If you are locked out of a room that you need to get in to, and are not skilled in lock picking/smithing, I recommend you just cut your losses and call a professional locksmith. He'll go it faster and cheaper than you can without damaging your door.

    If the goal is simply to disassemble the lock for practical reasons, how about shimming it from the back?

    • @Nitrxgen
      @Nitrxgen Před 6 lety +1

      The key stop at the back of the core (Bill claimed it as a anti-drill pin) would be tricky to get a shim past, if not for that I'd say it's certainly possible.

    • @flatfingertuning727
      @flatfingertuning727 Před 6 lety

      The key stop doesn't look like it extends through the sheer line (if it did, the core couldn't come out the front) so I don't see that it would cause any difficulty. Putting in a shim and then reattaching the tailpiece with the shim in place would make it possible to transport the lock and have the recipient insert a follower and remove the core without having to remove or replace the Bible pins.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  Před 6 lety +1

      I'm working (struggling) with it. I'm trying to find the right settings so everyone is happy, and that is proving a bit difficult. Some people wear headphones and are very sensitive to volume changes and frequency variations. Others listen on their phones and really don't care as long as they can hear. Accommodating the wide range of devices is .... a challenge. I'm probably going to "settle" on something middle-of-the-road. Not perfect for anyone, but acceptable for most.
