  • This is a short demonstration on how to activate HF receive and change the settings on modified Quansheng UV-K5/6 and 5R Plus transceivers
These radios all use the same base PCB and frame from the original UV-K5 and currently all variants can be modified to accept an HF receive PCB. In addition to the PCB the radio has to be running CEC firmware which is being demonstrated here.
The mod for these radios is fairly straightforward but is a bit fiddly unless you have the correct equipment (So please don't attempt this with your dads old school 60w thermally balanced iron from the 80s or 90s!)
These transceivers are fairly cheap and lots of fun. The ideal radio to have in your pocket on holiday or out and about. The Si4372 gives plenty of gain and good performance so a simple long wire is sufficient to obtain good results
If you have one of these transceivers and want it modified or would like one get in touch. I have some HF PCBs and modified radios, UK delivery of a modded radio is £39.70 or they can be modded for £15.70 inc delivery
Apologies for the resolution, its not a great resolution of the screen but the video commentary is fairly self explanatory?

Works well rex, just getting my head around all the settings. Do you think there's any advantage if you also modded the unit to the 2 antenna .

@@robertdmaiden6903 maybe if you need vhf at the same time, but to be honest there is no loss on hf and swapping antennas isn't a big chore

If you want to listen at home, I would advice getting an SDR dongle. Much better selectivity and real sideband, not DSB.

Thanks but I have an FTdx-101MP at home, this is a cheap solution for going portable
