  • In this statutory interpretation case, Lord Diplock outlined three rules which a court should observe before deciding to read additional words into a statutory provision. Unfortunately for the respondents to this appeal, he was unable to follow all three rules in this case, and so no additional words were inferred to close a loophole in the law.
