I get asked a lot how I paint so fast so I thought I'd do a simple video showing how I work. I am not a painter but maybe it will help someone. Also I talk through the process of planning this command unit for my Stanley War of the Roses army.
As regular viewers of the Plastic Crack Podcast will know Martin (7th Son) has been conducting a long ringing campaign to subvert all of us to painting War of the Roses armies. Despite knowing little about the period I have thrown myself into it painting up a decent force of Stanley infantry mainly from Perry Plastics with a few metals thrown in for variety. I can honestly say I haven't enjoyed a project more for sometime - but don't tell Martin that....

Wouldn't say you were cheating Dom - that is just your painting process and it looks awesome. And the more you paint, the better your army looks and the more you say you enjoy the hobby and at arms length, on a 6 foot table, amongst serried ranks, they look just as good as the super high detail stuff people spend 10x+ longer on.
I do similar to you - various contrast paint basecoats over primer for the block colours, tidy it all up with some quick highlights to also hide the slips and the misses and then agrax (all hail the Earthshade) to finish up.

They look great. No matter what technique you use you can always see something new in painting videos. I am constantly changing my style. Sometimes I stick with the new. Other times I revert back to tried and trusted ways. Glad I am not the only one to have trouble with flags.

Hi Dom, you bring to light, the tendancies of individuals to change sides and allegencies on a whim. The mere mention of more titles or estates could swing loyalty within hours. perhaps this could be a rule which could be used in a game and, a conveniant way to bring reinforcements to the field, especially if you dont have sufficient stands to fill out your troop numbers?. I am not a wargamer, so please ignore if I am taliking out of my backside haha!

yeah its a very 'fluid' situation for most Lords! Martin is working on some special rules to try and reflect this but you do have to be a little careful as it can rather destroy a game if Lords swap sides to easily!

Nice, i am going to have to get some of that mud and water effect product I like the spray varnish idea after tufting, over the years my grass always fall off so my bases bald like an old mans noggin.

The figures came out nice Dom. Sometimes getting a whole army looks better than 1 or 2 painted to top level. Depends on what you want I guess lol. Interesting to see the base come together too

Really interesting to see your process. Theres no such thing as 'cheating' in painting, its all just process using tools and equipment, if there's something that makes that easier, it's not cheating. You put your painting down far too much Dom, your painting is far better than you give yourself credit for.
