      I don't think he has sponsors, he does all this out of his own pocket. His channel is quite amazing. Where did you come by information that he's sponsored? He uses too many different brands for one company to sponsor him. If a company sponsors your channel, you have to almost exclusively use their products only like Duncan Rhodes who uses Citadel and Army Painter only.

    Hi Rex. I've used Vallejo color shifter and I really like them, but the reason for my comment is I just tested Folk Art Color Shifter (Black Flash) and Folk Art Dragonfly Glaze (Blue/Green/Gold) using white/gray/gloss black primed spoons. Amazingly, the Black Flash Color Shifter was darker over the white spoon. The Dragonfly Glaze was OUTSTANDING. Although there's glitter all over my booth now. Over the white, it was almost translucent, but you see a slight purple sheen. The gray was like a light green and the black was almost like a deep emerald color. Very impressive. If you get the chance, pick one up at Walmart. Mine was $4.28 for a 2oz bottle. Thinned with windshield wiper fluid and sprayed at 22 psi. Next time, I'll bump that up to at least 25. Used my .5mm PS-290. Have a great day.

    I have never had any luck at all using Vallejo. If you have to mask over it, such as for a hard edge camouflage; some of it always pulls up. I generally stick to Tamiya or Gunze Sanyo (GSI). But, it's nice to see someone who can make them work. I'm almost tempted to get some.

  • @lastshadow9351

    Great vid! I do wonder if the gloss black you're using is contributing to the gold having a greenish tint. Green based black seems pretty common. My guess would be you could pick a different black base color and get a different result. If you were looking for a more normal gold color you'd use a red based black for instance. Just a theory, but from all the tests I've watched you do, the base coat has a dramatic effect on shifts and candies.

    The purple to green is like the Mystic Purple Green on the 1996 Mustang. When the color came out you could not buy
    the paint. Ford was using the same paint that Uncle Sam was using in the new $20 bills with color shifting. They
    would not release the paint for fear of counterfeiting. I was working in an automotive paint store at the time. It was several years later before you could buy the paint.

What inks or paints do you recommend for that kind of effect? I am trying to add this to my car model windshields and jet cockpit heads-up-display (HUD). • @andrewamann2821
      @andrewamann2821 Před 3 lety

      I've been using Golden's line of interference paints, which are quite similar to these offerings from Vallejo, and an application over clear probably won't end up working, just due to how this sort of paint operates.
      The reason why the paints are extremely pale, or even white, in the bottle, is because they are actually metallic medium, with no pigmentation in them, with a bit of a twist: the mica flake has a special coating on it. Because of this, the paint requires a glossy, light-absorbant backing color. It's far too early in the morning for me to write an essay on the physics of how this stuff works, but basically, what you're seeing when you look at this stuff is the light being filtered after reflecting off of the substrate color.
      That said... And I'm just doing a bit of spitballing here, so don't take this as gospel, as I've not really tried any of this... with some good surface prep, and an inside-out approach, you might just get away with it... Polish the hell out of the *inside* of your clear part, cut your color shift with some gloss medium, and lay down a hella even coat (or couple of coats...) on the back of the part. Then you come back through with something dark, glossy, and transparent, as a backer. The impact is likely going to be more subtle than you might want, but it's something to try, at least.

    Last time i tested aqua gloss it hazed up the chrome, i wonder if its because i didn't let the black base dry a full day, but anyway best method i found is to do chrome, use whatever protects the paint like an aqua gloss, if it kills the reflection do another chrome coat on top at the end. No matter what u do if u scratch it hard enough the paint will chip off.

    Have you tested Testors color shift? It's in spray cans. I tried it on a model car and it went on well in two med coats over gloss black. They sell a gloss black which I assume is regular gloss black. I got the Galaxy blue to green shift. I painted the car two years ago. I called Testers to see what type of gloss to use. They weren't sure! So I used Future floor wax and it still as a good shine.
    I wonder if you could place another color shift on or would it come out cloudy or muddy?
