    About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

I agree about the screen, I so want to stand with my cuppa and gaze on the view or sit on a long deeply sumptuous bench with a throw pillow at my back and wonder at the stars. The screen says "stay out". 🤗❤️🌈🙏🕊️

I would always use a wardrobe in a room. I don't live out of a suitcase when I stay anywhere. This is especially true when you have long dresses, formal wear or anything that creases. I'm glad that you have put somewhere to hang clothes. Personally I would put fabric in the glass so the clothes aren't on display! The main bedroom does look better without the larger wardrobe I must admit. Xx

Removing the wardrobe was definitely the right thing to do, now the focal point is back where it should be, the fireplace. Now I’m going to fuss again, the screen in the window is so unnecessary and useless really, other than blocking your guests from a good view from the window. Just because you have it, doesn’t mean you should use it. Sometimes less is more. I was thinking on your idea for velvet in the back of the cabinet in hall, it’s a good idea but why not cover the glass with some lovely fabric, so when your guests hang things in it they are not visible to the room. Just an idea, otherwise everything looks so much better. I love that you guys involve your viewers for opinions. That’s so appreciated!

With less furniture in the room you can appreciate the remaining furniture, walls , and decor more. I like the placement of the chair and side table beside the fireplace. I do feel the hall tree works better than the wardrobe in the salon. The hall tree doesn't protrude into the room as much as the wardrobe. The wardrobe feels like it narrowss the path to the doorway to its left as you look at the wardrobe. The hall tree makes the salon feel more open and spacious.

Change in entry: lovely. Wardrobe out of bedroom: lovely - makes fireplace stand out more as a feature, and chair in corner much better. Lose the thingy in front of window, too cluttery and in the way of getting to the window to admire the view. Oh, and my two cents on lining the wardrobe in the entry, I would think it a bit too much color completing with it all. Shine up the inside a bit, perhaps (hard to see the condition in video), but keep it the same tone as the exterior of it.

FABULOUS, so glad you removed the wardrobe, although beautiful it took up too much space in the room. The elegant seating & table in the corner is PERFECT and provides further space at the foot of the bed for guests to walk around without bumping into anything. The only addition I would personally remove is the screen in front of the radiator as it blocks the heat getting into the room, and heating in a bedroom is really important for guests comfort. Hallway new cabinet IMO a little too large for the space & thought the orignal hallstand worked perfectly for hanging clothes on. The new cabinet would make an amazing bookcase somewhere in the Chateau. Well done on making the changes to consider guests needs and not just sticking rigidly to the original layout - very impressive. 👍

Although the wardrobe was beautiful, it was too large for the room. I would remove the lovely screen in the window and replace it with a bench. You can always use more seating and it could be used for placing luggage if need be and would not take away walking around space. The new furniture for the entry room is perfect and using it for extra hanging space is a super idea. Covering the interior panels with green velvet is very nice. Agree with the majority, it looks so much better without the wardrobe and the window screen is not necessary makes the space look cluttered. You have done an amazing job.❤

Glad you moved the wardrobe out now you have lovely place to put on ones shoes or have a glass.. Liked the hat stand better. Great place to hang a coat or dress. the new armoire looks to big unless your going to raise the lights and pictures. You have a big chateau plenty of places to put the new armoire. It's commanding looks like it needs more space. Ab well it's your chateau do as you please.

Funny, the wardrobe in the bedroom didn't bother me at all, but now that it's out, it's like the whole room changed and expanded. Good call! The cupboard from Patrick and Stuart is gorgeous! Such a thoughtful gift, and looks just right in the hall.

Agree. And with walls adorned like that there isn’t much need for anything to hang on the walls. The walls are the wall decor. So a world famous designer once said. Fancy paneled walls don’t need anything else. You have to know when to edit and also, if in doubt, take it out, other decorators have said.

On second thought as you’re panning around the room, I think you have too many pictures hanging on the walls. It’s distracting from the beautiful decorated walls. It wouldn’t hand anything on the walls. It’s a lot going on in a small space. It’s confusing to the eye.

What about a window bench to sit and enjoy looking out side and take in the room! Just a thought! You guys are amazing!!! Much love to you

I appreciate your listening to feedback from individuals who have actually stayed in the rooms and also really noticing what items were used and what was not totally functional. When you have a initial vision, it’s hard to edit/evolve that vision, but ultimately the BEST way to ensure the optimal space.

The wardrobe was a thing a beauty, but I agree that it was too imposing for the bedroom. The room now looks spacious and luxurious without feeling cramped. I also think the cabinet from Patrick and Stuart looks great in the entry-- in addition to lining the back with velvet, though, it might be worth considering lining the inside of the glass-paneled doors with some sheered fabric or lace curtains, so that if people do hang clothes in there, the entry still retains a neat and tidy look about it. Also, now that the wardrobe is gone, the room has lost it's full-length mirror. When I stay in hotels or bed and breakfast, I do appreciate a full-length mirror. I am not sure where you could add one (perhaps somewhere in the bathroom?) As always, I look forward to all of your vlogs and truly enjoy watching all of your projects. Thank you for bringing us along!

Room without the corner wardrobe looks so much better ...the "new" wardrobe .....mmmmm 🤔nice though it is I feel a room needs empty spaces so you can really enjoy the things that ARE in there We tend to "over clutter" rooms Embrace the emptiness 🤣 And if I may comment on something else; I would change the lightbulbs into candle shape lightbulbs they look to modern for the light fixtures Do you know the HUE system (lightbulbs) you can dim them or even give them different colors (depending on your mood) and you don't need extra electric wiring for them you can work them with an app or with remote control Super easy and handy (not an ad by the way I just have them and love them especially the dimming function) Good luck with the further renovations and Love the work that you have done 🍀

YAY! That wardrobe was so jammed in there. I'm so glad you listened to us!
Also, in the US, we call that other piece a "hall tree" - it's normally put it in an entranceway to put your hat & coat when you first come in.
I'm sure you'll find good spots for them in the new suite.

Pre covid my husband and I spent a month each year travelling through France. 2 weeks travelling and 2 weeks in a gite or hotel. I cannot tell you how often there was no full length mirror or somewhere to hang clothes, a hook on the back of a door didn’t cut it!!! I agree that the armoire was too big in the bedroom but please don’t forget the mirror, perhaps you could find a cheval one to tone with the furniture. Living out of a case is ok for a night or two but there are no facilities to iron anything that is creased so hanging space is a must. Please don’t think I’m criticising your stunning rooms, I’m just saying what I’ve observed over the years of travelling.

The change is sooo much better. Excellent idea Tracy. The luggage rack is perfect for the bag. Typically I just use luggage rack for my bag - open my bag when i need clothing and a counter to put my purse, sun hat, sunglasses or day purchases. Maybe a second luggage rack would be handy if there are two people with two bags. Excited for all your guests coming.

Changes in the bedroom look great! More space now and it allows to see all the details of the panels which were hidden by the wardrobe. I also like the color of the bed sheets better than the previous ones as they match the bed frame now, or it is just me? It is great to see that you are still adjusting based on practical considerations towards receiving guests. It is all quite exciting! 😊
