About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

A big no to the fire screen. You don't need anything more in the room. Just me, of course❤
I agree about the screen, I so want to stand with my cuppa and gaze on the view or sit on a long deeply sumptuous bench with a throw pillow at my back and wonder at the stars. The screen says "stay out". 🤗❤️🌈🙏🕊️
I don’t like the screen either, you’re right it says stay out . A bench to gaze out of the window would be perfect but I’m not sure if there’s a radiator there maybe that is why they put the screen there 💕🇦🇺💕
the radiator is there...
The screen at the window isn’t needed. It just makes the room look cluttered again. Keep the vista from the window open so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful view. So glad you took the wardrobe out by the way 😊
I thought it was the little settee just moved out of the way.....definitely a no no having something in front of the window.
Yes the room looks better without the wardrobe.... That wardrobe needs a bigger room to show how beautiful it is xx
Remove the screen and put a nice baggage stand there.
True wardrobe needs a bigger room
I think no to the piece in front of the window, it interferes with the ability to access the window and enjoy the view 🙂
Without the wardrobe the room really sings! And the fireplace once again becomes the focal point when looking in that direction. Looks great!
As they say less is more. Bedroom looks much better . Whatever the new thing in the window is I think it should go, more clutter. Looks very inviting❤❤
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I would always use a wardrobe in a room. I don't live out of a suitcase when I stay anywhere. This is especially true when you have long dresses, formal wear or anything that creases. I'm glad that you have put somewhere to hang clothes. Personally I would put fabric in the glass so the clothes aren't on display! The main bedroom does look better without the larger wardrobe I must admit. Xx
I agree with you - we always unpack as soon as we arrive somewhere, even if we're only there for two nights. I can't abide living out of a suitcase.
With you on all of that .. I'm only reading the comments to see if anyone else think's that fabric directly behind the glass would work better. They could match it the curtains opposite.
I am exactly opposite. Never use a wardrobe.
I agree. I'd use the wardrobe and always unpack.
In the movies, I used to notice, bags were always unpacked and clothes put into drawers, I always found that rather interesting, cos I didn't do that, only used wardrobe to hang my suits.., just saying. 😊
I love the bedroom without that big piece of furniture. Now the room feels larger. Love the corner the way you have it set up.
Thanks so much!
The bedroom looks much better without the wardrobe. Living room looks so much larger without it. Good move!
I like the changes very much.
The one thing I don't care for is the radiator screen.
Thanks Bruce 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle For sure, don't we all want to stand in that window and look at the beautiful outside, the screen blocks the window! It all looks beautiful.
Removing the wardrobe was definitely the right thing to do, now the focal point is back where it should be, the fireplace. Now I’m going to fuss again, the screen in the window is so unnecessary and useless really, other than blocking your guests from a good view from the window. Just because you have it, doesn’t mean you should use it. Sometimes less is more. I was thinking on your idea for velvet in the back of the cabinet in hall, it’s a good idea but why not cover the glass with some lovely fabric, so when your guests hang things in it they are not visible to the room. Just an idea, otherwise everything looks so much better. I love that you guys involve your viewers for opinions. That’s so appreciated!
I like the changes, except the screen in front of window.
I like it much better without the wardrobe. I thought it overwhelmed the room and took your eyes away from the rest of the beautiful room.
I think it is hiding the radiator.
With the wardrobe removed, the bedroom looks more balanced and not as cluttered. That said, I think that the screen in front of the window should be removed - just not necessary. Everyone is working so hard and I appreciate the time you spend taking videos to show us your progress. Well done !!!!
Looks great without the wardrobe. The screen in front of the window detracts the view. Less is more😅😊
Yes like everyone else removing the wardrobe is better and spacious very nice now , as for the hallway I like the hat and coat rack there you could see that whole wall the 2 pictures nices now you got this chunky pieces of furniture you don't see that openness anymore. But I can see it in a particular way the change is best for the guest thanku
I like the wardrobe in the hallway, people need to be able to hang clothing if needed and it looks great.
The radiator is behind the screen
Makes sense for the screen to cover the radiator. Once fabric is changed to work with the decor it shd disappear more. I sometimes use a coat rack as hanging space so you cld feasibly put that in the room for jackets and such but not sure it’s needed.
Have you thought of putting curtains on the glass in your cabinet. When coats are in it you won’t see the back panels
Agreed - velvet on the back panels is totally unnecessary. This isn't a brothel. Curtains are one approach or the same frosted glass you placed on the door at the entrance to your private suite on the 3rd floor.
The wardrobe was beautiful but the corner space looks better with the sitting area. So nice to see you all relaxing a bit for once. ❤
Yes! Thank you! 🥰🥰
I like the changes you made in the bedroom. The only thing that feels wrong is the screen in front of the window. I personally would prefer to be able to get closer to the window and enjoy the view.❤❤❤
Well done with the changes, the focus is now on the fireplace which is perfect. I’m afraid I’m not that keen on the screen in front of the radiator, it makes it too cluttered.
Yes, that screen is too much imo 👍
A hatstand belongs in an entrance hall.
Agreed
Agree
In the bookcase, I would repair and polish the wood-I wouldn’t put material inside it. I like the natural wood.
The wardrobe took away from the fire place, looks great now.
Change in entry: lovely. Wardrobe out of bedroom: lovely - makes fireplace stand out more as a feature, and chair in corner much better. Lose the thingy in front of window, too cluttery and in the way of getting to the window to admire the view. Oh, and my two cents on lining the wardrobe in the entry, I would think it a bit too much color completing with it all. Shine up the inside a bit, perhaps (hard to see the condition in video), but keep it the same tone as the exterior of it.
Yup, like the more space bedroom. With the larger piece now out in the hallway, it’s working well. Love that you are open to all the suggestions, whether they work for you are not. Good on ya.
Thanks so much! 😊
Green velvet panel curtains behind the glass could also work and then the clothes wouldn’t show when being used. The furniture rearranging really looks great❤
Or a golden velvet - which would make the gold trim pop... and hide the hanging items.
No screen...
I love that wardrobe but it just looked wrong and too many mirrors next to each other. The chair and small table looked like that corner was made for them. Good job guys!😊
Thanks for sharing!! 🥰
I like the placement of the chair and side table beside the fireplace. I do feel the hall tree works better than the wardrobe in the salon. The hall tree doesn't protrude into the room as much as the wardrobe. The wardrobe feels like it narrowss the path to the doorway to its left as you look at the wardrobe. The hall tree makes the salon feel more open and spacious.
Thanks Nanci 🥰
The changes are spot on 15:54 ..wonderful! I had also thought both items you removed detracted from both rooms. LOVED the wardrobe, but not there. All is beautiful now. Might consider white sheers behind the glass in the cabinet to distract from hangers and clothing.
Thanks so much! 🥰
So much better! The bedroom feels more spacious and the sitting corner really does allow the user to fully enjoy the lovely work you have done. Practical excellence. Love the wardrobe from Patrick and Stuart as well. Perfect!
Truly the best decision..out with the wardrobe and now the radiator cover. Bravo
The changes you have made to the rooms are really good. It was beautiful before but more beautiful now. With less furniture in the room you can appreciate the remaining furniture, walls , and decor more. But i find that the screen in front of the window distracts from the view from the window and Ash has made the radiator very presentable. It tends to make it a bit cluttered in that area. Love what you are doing. You are all amazing and I can’t wait for each new episode
Thanks Sandra 🥰
I don't like the screen in front of the window but love all the other changes
The bedroom is much better now minus the wardrobe 😊. I did think it was a bit overpowering. I’m sure you can use it somewhere else, it’s beautiful! I’m sure this won’t be the last change you make. The Chateau will evolve as time passes. It’s looking brilliant though - so much hard work has gone into it - you guys are amazing!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Coco Channel always used to stand in front of the mirror before going out and take something off. Whether it was a piece of jewelry or a hat who knows? But she would remove something. So even she could ‘Overdo’ it 🥰
Thanks Alexandra 🥰
Agree a full length mirror somehow is nice.
You are the first person in over 50 years that has quoted that "Coco rule"! I have followed her advice since I read it in Mcall's magazine in the '60's. 😊
I always hang up my clothes whoever I go. I also love using a full length mirror. The “Coco Rule” is wonderful.
As a woman, I always hang up most of my clothes at home and have done the same where ever I have traveled. That has included many chateau’s. The room may look better without it, but there needs a place to hang up clothes. Drawers do not cut it.
😮bedroom looks great .. less is more
Agree totally the wardrobe was too big. Less is always more.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I hate to say it, but that screen in front of the radiator looks cluttering. I appreciate that it matched the bed, but it detracts from the window area which is where I would stand to look at the amazing views.
Bravo! The bedroom looks just right and the room breathes now. All the exquisite details (the bed, pictures and walls) you perfected can be seen and enjoyed. Maybe the gorgeous wardrobe could be used as a blanket/linen cabinet at the end of a hallway? I would vote no on the screen in front of the window. I would want to enjoy the view from the window without being able to stand close to it.
Thank you! 😊
I am pleased that you moved the wardrobe. The room is much less crowded and comfortable with the chair in the corner by the fireplace. Good move! Leave room to move around. Don't know what the (fire) screen is doing in the window but don't keep it in the room.
If you are going to use the cabinet as a place to hang clothes perhaps some rouched fabric over the glass panels would be nice. Och you all know best!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
The wardrobe was beautiful but it weighed the room down. Now it feels lighter & balanced! You have literally 1000s of opinions & ideas to crowdsource, it’s a great resource for you!
FABULOUS, so glad you removed the wardrobe, although beautiful it took up too much space in the room. The elegant seating & table in the corner is PERFECT and provides further space at the foot of the bed for guests to walk around without bumping into anything. The only addition I would personally remove is the screen in front of the radiator as it blocks the heat getting into the room, and heating in a bedroom is really important for guests comfort. Hallway new cabinet IMO a little too large for the space & thought the orignal hallstand worked perfectly for hanging clothes on. The new cabinet would make an amazing bookcase somewhere in the Chateau. Well done on making the changes to consider guests needs and not just sticking rigidly to the original layout - very impressive. 👍
I love the changes you have made, now the fireplace is the focal point when entering the room, it is more balanced. The wardrobe as lovely as it was it was too heavy for the room. Looks grand now.
Thanks Susan 🥰
So agree that the beautiful wardrobe was taking away from the fireplace… glad you removed it.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Better without the wardrobe, such a cozy corner now ❤ That beautiful wardrobe will find it's best place😊You guys are sooo good ❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Not a fan of the screen in the window area, or the cupboard in the entryway as it looks too big. Love that the armoire was taken out. Great that you are getting, and open to feedback as to what works and what doesn’t.
Thanks for sharing 🥰
Excellent idea of moving the furniture. It looked good before, but looks much better now.❤❤❤❤
Good choice to remove the wardrobe. Less is often more. Just because you could cram furniture into every available space doesn’t mean you should.
Needless to say I took precious time out of my cocktail drinking tonight 🤣🤣🤣 had to get my chateau fix and the fact that you were doing my next fave thing to DIY changing furniture round 🤣🤣😬😬 the room looks much more spacious now ❤ fab job guys 🥰🥰
Haha. Thanks Lisa! Enjoy your cocktails 🥰🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle I will try my best!! Just because you asked 🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🍸🍸🍸
Jean from Suffolk. The only comment I would make is to swap the new pictures around to match the other side of the fireplace. Otherwise it all looks really good. One never knows how a room should be until it’s left for a while and you notice things could be different. Good decision Tracy ❤😊😊
Yes I agree with swapping the pictures to match the other side of the fireplace.
Yes I agree the new pictures don’t sing like the two on other side of fireplace.
The orange headboard clashes with the drapery behind the bed
Although the wardrobe was beautiful, it was too large for the room. I would remove the lovely screen in the window and replace it with a bench. You can always use more seating and it could be used for placing luggage if need be and would not take away walking around space. The new furniture for the entry room is perfect and using it for extra hanging space is a super idea. Covering the interior panels with green velvet is very nice. I used to own a small B&B and making your space beautiful and practical is so important.
The formal garden is looking fantastic! Seeing & hearing Ash talk about it is really exciting! I've never seen anymore hardworking people than you three! Keep up the wonderful work...your devotion is paying off!! BRAVO!!🎉
Great tweaking--but put the chair and table in the window so guests can enjoy the room AND landscape views!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
You couldn't tell because of the fire screen, but that window alcove is already taken up by the radiator.
I like the bedroom much better without the wardrobe. Love the corner the way it is set up now. The screen in front of the radiator is not needed-can go.
Never call them mistakes!!! After all, you had these ideas in your head, you are just making the rooms functional. Everything looks awesome! You all are so incredibly gifted. Tracy blows my mind. An awesome example of a hard working woman!
Funny, the wardrobe in the bedroom didn't bother me at all, but now that it's out, it's like the whole room changed and expanded. Good call! The cupboard from Patrick and Stuart is gorgeous! Such a thoughtful gift, and looks just right in the hall.
Thanks Lora 🥰🥰
I thought the exact same thing!
At lot, lot better now in the bedroom. The fireplace is now the focal point of this wall and the entire room
Brilliant idea !! It looks amazing now. More space with cupboard gone. Love that room.
Thanks so much! 😊
You are such perfectionists. Such good hosts to consider guests.
...At the moment we too are sorting our spaces. Like yous, we love custom recycled furniture. Wonderful work guys!👋😁
Love yous.
🙏❤
That chair and table looks so amazing in that corner … I think the divider is beautiful but if I was there I would want to be able to go right to that window as much as I could to look out personally to see the garden !
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
i liked the hat stand but the cupboard is lovely too
Looks better!
Much better with more space. You can now see the beautiful rug as well. Although I did really like the hat rack too. Hope to see it another space. 👍
Much Much better!!!
Window area doesn't need anything in it. 😊 Another fab video! Your all amazing❤
The change is sooo much better. Excellent idea Tracy. The luggage rack is perfect for the bag. Typically I just use luggage rack for my bag - open my bag when i need clothing and a counter to put my purse, sun hat, sunglasses or day purchases. Maybe a second luggage rack would be handy if there are two people with two bags. Excited for all your guests coming.
Thanks Hilda 🥰
room looks better without the wardrobe. I thought it was too big for the room but didn't say it. glad you changed it!
I agree with moving the wardrobe…it visually overwhelmed the space. Good decision.
Thank you for your videos, I so enjoy each one of you and am I full admiration for your vision and your hard work.
A Gram from MO. 😘
I love the changes you made!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I think it looks 100% better. Good changes.
It feels like an improvement.
So glad you took out the wardrobe. It served the purpose of showing us what the room may have looked like 200 years ago, but, as you have figured out, it served no other purpose. The room looks so much bigger, and less cluttered. Forget the fire screen. Maybe for the salon downstairs.
Hi again from Colorado. A suggestion. (And btw I love the changes. ). Instead of painting or upholstering the cabinet… think about this…
Have beautiful (embroidered with Lalacelle crest) white thirsty robes hung for the guests to use and to buy from your gift shop and also online. What a wonderful remembrance!
Great idea! Slippers too!
Room without the corner wardrobe looks so much better ...the "new" wardrobe .....mmmmm 🤔nice though it is I feel a room needs empty spaces so you can really enjoy the things that ARE in there We tend to "over clutter" rooms Embrace the emptiness 🤣 And if I may comment on something else; I would change the lightbulbs into candle shape lightbulbs they look to modern for the light fixtures Do you know the HUE system (lightbulbs) you can dim them or even give them different colors (depending on your mood) and you don't need extra electric wiring for them you can work them with an app or with remote control Super easy and handy (not an ad by the way I just have them and love them especially the dimming function) Good luck with the further renovations and Love the work that you have done 🍀
The wardrobe was a thing a beauty, but I agree that it was too imposing for the bedroom. The room now looks spacious and luxurious without feeling cramped. I also think the cabinet from Patrick and Stuart looks great in the entry-- in addition to lining the back with velvet, though, it might be worth considering lining the inside of the glass-paneled doors with some sheered fabric or lace curtains, so that if people do hang clothes in there, the entry still retains a neat and tidy look about it. Also, now that the wardrobe is gone, the room has lost it's full-length mirror. When I stay in hotels or bed and breakfast, I do appreciate a full-length mirror. I am not sure where you could add one (perhaps somewhere in the bathroom?) As always, I look forward to all of your vlogs and truly enjoy watching all of your projects. Thank you for bringing us along!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I like both rooms better with the changes you made, and I vote to remove the fire screen and put a second luggage rack there. I don’t see how the 401 can possibly outdo this suite.
Not sure what is in front of window…doesn’t seem necessary. Of course I love a window seat.
Built in though
Maybe the blue chair and wine table could go into window nook? That would be a nice view. And something else in the corner like the luggage rack or small chest of drawers?
Sehr gute Entscheidung!
Mehr Platz im Schlafzimmer.
Gefällt mir👍
Love the changes. Accents the other pieces ans is much less crowed. Nice progress on the garden.
Thank goodness you’ve taken the armoire out of the bedroom.😁
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
YAY! That wardrobe was so jammed in there. I'm so glad you listened to us!
Also, in the US, we call that other piece a "hall tree" - it's normally put it in an entranceway to put your hat & coat when you first come in.
I'm sure you'll find good spots for them in the new suite.
Your adjustments are definitely better choices and having had actual experience staying in the space it’s easier to make them.
Looks lovely, removing the wardrobe does make it more roomy. It does take time to get the design of furniture placement correct. Love how you are open minded to change❤😊
I love the way you interact with your viewers, not taking all ideas ,just listening and taking or leaving advice.x
Looks so much better , not crowded
Glad you moved the wardrobe out now you have lovely place to put on ones shoes or have a glass.. Liked the hat stand better. Great place to hang a coat or dress. the new armoire looks to big unless your going to raise the lights and pictures. You have a big chateau plenty of places to put the new armoire. It's commanding looks like it needs more space. Ab well it's your chateau do as you please.
😁
Love the changes in the bedroom but would def keep the hat stand in the hall If it is properly fixed to wall guests will be able to hang coats, scarves etc on it xxxx
A pretty improvement and more appealing.
Cette armoire était trop imposante dans cette chambre maintenant c'est très harmonieux plus fluide bravo pour ce changement
I loved that armour but completely agree with you about the room now. Beautiful!
😊 thank you
The bedroom looks so much better without the wardrobe!!!
Ash, Terry, and Tracy, (in alphabetical order), and all those behind the scenes friends and family, I love that you guys are able to think outside the box and collaborate with your viewers and guests on the project. Your ideas are inspiring, and the outcome exceeds the expectation. Your videos are evolving, and your connection with the viewer is great! Cheers from Canada!
Bedroom looks so much better, & much more space, ❤❤❤❤
It's amazing how a piece of furniture or decor comes to life when it has found It's home! The piece from Patrick and Stuart is AMAZING there! Velvet on the back is a good idea for also protecting people's clothes from the wood. The bedroom looks much better now, even though the wardrobe was beautiful. The rug there is absolutely exquisite!! Surely that wasn't a brocante find. ??? Well done all! And for being open to adjustments to your design plan. 😊
In winter guests would use the hatstand for their coats.
We will only be open in the summer season 🥰🥰
The bedroom looks beautiful by the way, much better without the wardrobe, Love watching you guys, i always think of how much work you do and if i am feeling lazy through the day i just remember how hard you all work and it keeps me motivated, Thank you for taking us on your journey too.
Egyptian cotton bedding is luxurious and relaxing.
I think the room is perfect!
There is usually furniture adjustment after all is said and done. It is so gorgeous and I think removing the wardrobe was the right thing to do.
Thanks Maggie 🥰
I liked the coat rack because the gold on the front of it looked like it was the part of the chair rail. It all matched
The wardrobe was beautiful, but the room is so more inviting with it gone!
Great design change.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
It looks much better without the wardrobe Terry , love to all xxx
Thanks Donna 🥰🥰
'We're not removing the fireplace' 😂 I can just see all the comments of people freaking out.
I like the hat stand and hope it's new spot will be just as lovely.
Ohhh! The bookcase matches with the mirror! That is just wonderful ❤
I appreciate your listening to feedback from individuals who have actually stayed in the rooms and also really noticing what items were used and what was not totally functional. When you have a initial vision, it’s hard to edit/evolve that vision, but ultimately the BEST way to ensure the optimal space.
